With rich snippets is it bad to add a city to the company name?
-
I have a client that is a franchise. Each franchise location has a different office address. Is it bad for me to do the following?
COMPANY NAME of CITY
...
....
There are about 10 franchisees. Should I use just the company name? Is the city in there going to be a negative?

Hi Thomas,
That's not a good idea. You should publish your client's business name identically across the whole web. So, if they are Trusty Tax Preparation, list them exactly that way with no additions or subtractions every single place you list them. If you are using Schema to markup the business, for instance, on the website, rely on the address fields to differentiate Trusty Tax Preparation in Miami from Trusty Tax Preparation in Los Angeles. Remember, local rankings are founded on the clarity of NAP (name-address-phone number) so be absolutely consistent everywhere you list NAP.

I'm not sure whether its a negative or not but I tried to get a little creative with the location.
Depending on where you go for the serps you get different places giving different rich snippets. For me on Firefox in the Bahamas I get different results to AOL.
I think you'll get the same serps on AOL as I do (I've included images for what I get). You can see that I tried to add "on the most relaxing resort in the Bahamas".
Not sure if its hurting my serps or not in fact before the March Panda update I was climbing in ranks, although what you can attribute that too I don't know, but we were getting 7.8 for "Bahamas All Inclusive" in the States. We're 16 for the moment
Anyway someone with more authority can tell whether it hurts or not, but for me it was working very well...

Blog not ranking for my name
Hi everyone. I'm new here so apologies if I'm not asking an appropriate question - just let me know! Can anyone help me figure out why my blog (https://www.jamescrowley.net/) isn't ranking at all for my name? I've run it through the standard Moz audit tools and it hasn't picked up any major issues. It ranks fine for my name plus " CTO", but doesn't appear anywhere in the top 50 without that qualifier. I realise there are many other 'James Crowley's to compete with but weirdly even my GitHub profile page appears to rank higher (https://github.com/jamescrowley) I moved the domain a while back (18 months+) and I used to rank highly, but it never seems to have recovered (all the standard redirects are in place, and told Google at the time about the move). Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Social Profile & Logo Markup: Where to add it?
We're looking to implement structured data for our social profiles and logo, as referenced here: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/social-profile https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/logo Should we add the markup for these structured data types to multiple pages, the homepage only, or all indexable pages? TIA

SEO implications when changing the business function however using the same domain name
Hi Everyone, Request some advice on the following situation please: If a client wishes to start a new business (advertising agency) using a domain name that they previously used for a completely different business function (selling hats & t-shirts) Is there anything you can do to "clean" the domain so that the previous indexing of the domain does not effect the new business and give the client a fresh start. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards and thanks.

Spammers created bad links to old hacked domain, now redirected to our new domain. Advice?
My client had an old site hacked (let's call it "myolddomain.com") and the hackers created many links in other hacked sites with links such as http://myolddomain.com/styless.asp?jordan-12-taxi-kids-cheap-T8927.html The old myolddomain.com site was redirected to a different new site since then, but we still see over a thousand spam links showing up in the new site's Search Console 404 crawl errors report. Also, using the links: operator in google search, we see many results of spam links. Should we be worried about these bad links pointing to our old site and redirecting to 404s on the new site? What is the best recommendation to clean them up? Ignore? 410s? Other? I'm seeing conflicting advice out there. The old site is hosted by the client's previous web developer who doesn't want to clean anything up on their end without an ongoing hosting contract. So beyond turning redirects on or off, the client doesn't want to pay for any additional hosting. So we don't have much control over anything related to "myolddomain.com". 😞 Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Is it bad for seo to have a large number of external links opening in modal windows?
I've got a job board that pulls in feeds from various job sites and recruiters. Rather than losing visitors exiting my site, I thought I was being clever by opening all external links in modal windows, so the user can 'click to close' and effectively stay on my site. I'm now starting to think this may potentially have been a bad move for SEO. Is there any evidence to suggest this? Simon

Change e-commerce platform and domain name SEO issue.
Hi, We are looking to switch from Bigcommerce to either Magento or Shopify, but we have some concern about the redirecting of all URL and not sure where to help. Also, we are looking to remove "hyphen" www.ide-home.com.au in our domain name, again it is all about 301 redirecting. We need SEO expert to help us with all changes that minimize the effect on Google. Does anyone can suggest which company or who we can ask for help? Thanks very much.

Is having one analytics account for lots of projects bad?
I manage several online web projects that have no link to each other. Now my question is if it will have any negative impact on ranking if I administer all those webpages with one account. Usually google penalizes sites that are obviously linked to eachother. Is administaring several sites with one analytics account reason enough for google to penalize my sites?
