Title Element Too Long; Should I remove site name even if keyword(s)?
-
Hi all
I have numerous pages (37) with a title element that is too long.
Over by 24 is the worst. Here's an examplehttp://cycling-jersey-collection.com/browse-collection/de-nardi-colpack-serhiy-honchar-ukrainian-national-champion-santini-jersey/
Now, the easy route would be to remove "- Cycling Jersey Collection" (the name of the site) which would solve all of these too long warnings.
However, given I want to rank well (and I do) for "cycle jersey collection" would removing these hurt my ranking position?
Thanks
andy

Yes before sept 2012 it was beneficial to have a keyword rich domain, but not anymore. In fact a domain like yours which is keyword rich, super long, and with two hyphens might be a red flag to google. If you are serious about this website I would change the domain name, it is horrible.

Thanks for your helpful pointers Julian.
I'm not a marketing man, and sitting back and looking at the domain, you are right in terms of the name - it's not exactly snappy. I did consider "Jersey Vault" or something along those lines but assumed having some keywords in the domain name would be more useful than a "brand" from an SEO point of view.
Most of my visitors come from google/bing having searched for something rather specific, so I am assuming they will not really care that much about the brand - assuming the website is displaying some nice photos of the jersey that they are interested in?
But trying to build a following/community - the brand will of course be more important. That's something I have to work on once I have got more content onto the website.

Good point Chris. Thanks

ok - thanks

Thinking in terms of this specific title, I'd remove:
De , national, collection
Another thing to think about: if a word in your title isn't important enough to use in the item's description in the body of the page, it's nowhere near not important enough to use in your title.

BRAND Name in title tag is not compulsory to put all the pages. This is the perception of people that brand name should come in title tag, but this is not good & moreover your brand name keywords itself. So, kindly avoid

Firstly, the name of the site is:
cycling-jersey-collection.com or cycling-jersey-collection, it isn't cycling jersey collection. That is just keywords you want to rank for.
Having cycling jersey collection on every page is not useful, I doubt you will ever build a brand with the domain cycling-jersey-collection.com - 25 characters including two hyphens is horrible.
Only one page of your site will rank best for "cycling jersey collection" so just put it in one title tag.

Trying to Optimize my site for one keyword any advice please
Hi, we are trying to optimize our site www.in2town.co.uk for the keyword of lifestyle magazine. We are having trouble with this. We were last year number one in google for the keyword and then the end of last year we went to position four and now we are on the bottom of the second page and we are not sure what is happening. here is the text view of the site http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:5U281SBmDlUJ:www.in2town.co.uk/&hl=en&client=firefox-a&gl=uk&strip=1 I am just wondering if we need to do a better description of the lifestyle magazine at the top as i know it says you should have your keyword within the first 100 words Any help on trying to solve this problem and get the page back where it belongs will be great. I know we have a lot of text on the page so google maybe finding it hard to find out what keywords are what but the only keyword we are interested in this page is lifestyle magazine, in the near future we would be looking at including lifestyle news many thanks

Site Purchase and 301
Hello, I just started working with a new client. Since then the client has purchased another company. We have re-branded the new companies home page and 301 redirected the rest of the site's links to the corresponding pages on the holding companies site. Since then the rankings have tanked. I looked at both companies back link profiles and realized that they are quite spammy from the last SEO contractor they hired. That said, the site was ranking fine until last Friday. I was wondering if anyone had seen temporary rankings decrease after 301ing a domain to a different site? Thanks!

Mobile site rank on Google S.E. instead of desktop site.
Hello, all SEOers~ Today, I would like to hear your opinion regarding on Mobile site and duplicate contents issue. I have a mobile version of our website that is hosted on a subdomain (m instead www). Site is targeting UK and Its essentially the same content, formatted differently. So every URL on www exists also at the "m" subdomain and is identical content. (there are some different contents, yet I could say about 90% or more contents are same) Recently I've noticed that search results are showing links to our mobile site instead of the desktop site. (Google UK) I have a sitemap.xml for both sites, the mobile sitemap defined as follows: I didn't block googlebot from mobile site and also didn't block googlebot-mobile from desktop site. I read and watched Google webmaster tool forum and related video from Matt Cutts. I found many opinion that there is possibility which cause duplicate contents issue and I should do one of followings. 1. Block googlebot from mobile site. 2. Use canonical Tag on mobile site which points to desktop site. 3. Create and develop different contents (needless to say...) Do you think duplicate contents issue caused my mobile site rank on S.E. instead of my desktop site? also Do you think those method will help to show my desktop site on S.E.? I was wondering that I have multi-country sites which is same site format as I mentioned above. However, my other country sites are totally doing fine on Google. Only difference that I found is my other country sites have different Title & Meta Tag comparing to desktop site, but my UK mobile site has same Title & Meta Tag comparing to desktop. Do you think this also has something to do with current problem? Please people~! Feel free to make some comments and share your opinion. Thanks for reading my long long explanation.
