Link building
-
Hello everyone,
I am building links for an e-commerce site and I need to increase the value of the links we get by placing them on specific pages in order to pass more juice to inner pages.
Which part of the website should I point the links to?
Because there is no content section on the site what I can do is either link to the homepage (not an option) or link to inner pages such as category/subcategory/product pages.
My doubt is that it wouldn't look natural to link to products pages from a piece of content or from a site where people go with the intention not to buy but to get information.
Any opinions on this?

Thanks for your answer, and I have read those posts and they are part of my source library
I agree with what you say and I try to follow Google's guidelines all the time because the last thing I want is being hit by a Google update. What I do before building links, create content or anything else is to put myself on the other side of the screen as a customer and understand if what I am doing will be relevant for visitors.
Once I read in a book about Adwords that PPC managers and Seo work for Google (or other search engines). With our work we should provide Google's Customers with the best experience in order for them to come back, no to go to Bing or to other search engine might be.If we do that customers come back, Google is happy, you get on the first page (hopefully) and at the end of it, you are happy too.
This is what I try to base my work on, but ,as I mentioned before, I can't rely on content because the website lacks of a blog, so until the blog gets built all I can do is optimize the little content I can put on the site, write understandable product description.
By the way, I appreciate your answer a lot, you got me thinking about linking from and to sites. I got a clearer picture now.
Cheers

Premio,
Directly from Google's Webmaster Guidelines:
Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether you'd feel comfortable explaining what you've done to a website that competes with you, or to a Google employee. Another useful test is to ask, "Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn't exist?"
Back in the day, perhaps, that information was taken with a grain of salt, but if you look through the Q&A today for all the people who were hit by Penguin, you'll notice that a lot of those people were inexperienced Webmasters/ Link Builders who didn't fully understand that they were doing anything wrong when they wondering about the same question you are asking. Oh sure, you can get away with some awkward links, no doubt, but they're less likely to help you these days and it's not a strategy to build the value of someone's ecommerce business with. Your job may be to increase the value of the links to a site, but it's not necessarily by deciding which page they need to go on.
Today, increasing the value of your back links means increasing the value of the content you publish so that others link to it naturally--however and from wherever they choose to. Give this guide a read, then go through this, this, this, and this to kind of get your feet wet with link building. Then think about how you can create content for you audience that will encourage engagement.

I agree with you, but at the moment I haven't got a content section on the website, and all I can do is submit the content I create and post on other sites to the main social media, which don't work for the industry I am in.
My aim is to create a blog/news section on the site and find some content ideas in order to get some links, but for this industry is being beyond awkword

Thing is that the market I am working with aren't the best in terms on content or anything and it's quite difficult to target. It's fiber optic cables and brothers (copper cables, etc..).
Building links for this site is difficult because there is a lot of talking about fiber broadband, internet and things like that, but that hasn't got anything to do with what we do.
I am trying to find broader topics in order to build links but it's difficult because I could end up being irrelevant.
Here is and example of a link I build:
blog is about IT, data centres, electronics and electric stuff and telecoms.
my article was an explanation of two types of fibre optics.
I got two links from there pointing at the two products pages that represent the products I was talking about.
The links off that site are good, site has a good PR (5) compared to mine (2) but I am not sure it will send traffic over though.
I was thinking to build some other links off that site, would that be a good idea?

+1. You should at least earn some links, not only building. It will get easier to build links with real valuable content.

What kind of products are they? It all depends on the product categories. You should be fine as long as the link source is relevant to the products on the end url. I would say you should try to keep the topic as broad as possible though. Maybe only as far as subcategory 1 for most of them. That way you should be able to get more relevant links from a wider variety of sources.

well... think of this. If you would like to find information about a particular book, would it be natural to go to Amazon and find the description, reviews, etc. about that book? And the reason why it become natural is because the page for that product/book has a valuable information.
I guess it should be the same in your case, I would hope that you are not going to place only a single "buy now" button, but also other "helpful" information about that product.
Hope that helps

Link Building where link building is dead. Latest tactics in a land of content.
Hello, What is your latest link building techniques considering manual link building is basically dead, and you should really build good content to drive results. Link building has really become less important. It seems to be much more 10X content now. What would you recommend for basic link building considering this besides the 50 first Links video by Rand, which is excellent. Thanks, Bob

Is tiered link building a good thing?
I think that I have watched all the webinairs and online courses available on the web, but I still don't seem to know how and where to get links from. I know what type of links I should be getting and what type I should be avoiding, but that little luck so far. I came across the website of Matthew Woodward about tiered link building where he explains how to do this type of link building in depth. It seems quite interesting but also a lot of work so I don't want to invest my precious time in something that will be penalised by Google in the near future. Is there anyone that can give me some reason why I should or shouldn't do this?

Reputable Link Building Company
We are looking for a company who can build high quality links, from high quality domains to specific pages of our website. We are not looking for companies who create content or add to directories or post on blog rolls. Has anyone had any experience and can anyone recommend a link building company who can build high quality links to specific pages of a website? Thanks!

How do all these SEO companies link build, and isn't it technically black hat?
Amateur hour over here, and I'd appreciate a kick in the right direction! I've done a fairly good job link building organically, but I need to start ranking better so I can actually have a good shot at catching up with my competitors. I've contacted companies that perform SEO work, and each one of them has said that link building is one of the most important things that can be done to increase page ranking on SERPs. For a set amount of money each month (in one instance, $6,000/month), they promised me many quality links with keywords in the anchor text and on the first page of SERPS for those keywords against competitors who have Domain Authority of 65+. How can they possibly do this? I've tried doing research into how they can get so many quality links, and I have a theory: these SEO companies have a very large network of websites they work with. The SEO groups charge me money, and in turn pays this network of websites to create pages that link to my website using desired anchor text. Additionally, perhaps the SEO companies have a network of websites that they actually own and simply create new articles about your company and link to it. Is this how it's done? Is this how SEO companies actually operate? And if so, isn't this technically black hat SEO seeing as the customer is paying for links (from what I've read, Google hates this). Could it be possible that if I pay for these links, and Google somehow found out about it, I could really pay the consequences later on? Appreciate any insight you can give me before I spend any money on SEO work. Thanks so much! I'm a new user and really, really like this community!

Link Building: Feel like ive hit a wall
Hi, I have been doing SEO on my business website for about 4 years now. And it ranks #1-3 for my desired keywords and i always try to add new backlinks and keep uploading new content to a blog on the site as this is where nearly 100% of our customers come from so its important to me to rank high for the keywords related to my industry. However the last few months a competitor has taken over me for a certain keyword, i have researched their backlinks and site and from what i can see they have less content, and less backlinks, onpage seo isnt that great, and alot of the backlinks arent even related where all mine are in the same industry and i always research my backlinks to make sure that site has good backlinks also (i currently have about 48 root domain and 12,000 page backlinks for various pages of my website). The only thing they have over me is domain age, their domain is about 10 years old. I am also trying to target another hard to get keyword that im currently on Page 3 for, im sure over time i will rise to the top and its something i have to keep working at however i feel i wont get to where i want to be because im running out of ideas on where to get backlinks. After 4 years of building backlinks i feel like i have hit a brick wall, i started out by directory submission, then just links from other related sites, then i did a few article submissions and then i started finding it hard to get links so i started buying related links, however i seem to just keep buying and buying because im running out of ideas and it feels easier just to buy them, the only problem is its getting expensive and im now probably spending $80/month on paid backlinks! Although considering im not paying an SEO company its still a lot cheaper! I have gotten to the point where im researching sites that arent even in my industry (however still automotive related) and getting links on sites their on which was going really well, but now even that feels like its coming to an end and im back to submitting to directories their on. So other then directories, paid links, articles etc. what else could i be doing to build quality backlinks? I stopped doing articles because they were so time consuming and i felt like i was only getting backlinks from them that were worthless and held no authority. I have about 4 blogs (all on different IPs) would it be worth blogging on them and building content and dropping links from those to mine or is it not worth the effort when i could just submit articles to article websites?
