Backlinks from complaints site?
-
Our brands deal quite a lot with a complaints site that the public may post a complaint and then our clients respond - if the response is the answer the complainer was looking for, they can convert the complaint into a compliment however this is 80% not the case.
Hence would including a link back to the clients site from a complaints website have any negative effect or can we turn a negative into a marketing opportunity?
-
Thanks Everett,
I will inform the clients to add a relevant link to their responses and see how it goes.
-
Assuming the site allows it and the links are followable I see no reason why it wouldn't be OK to link back to the clients' site from their answer, especially if the link goes to a page relevant to the answer (i.e. an FAQ page, help files, etc..).

Hi Thomas,
Yes we don't have control over the client's compliment / complaint however our client can respond to the compliment / complaint and within the response include a link to the home page or contact page.
As an example, please see: http://hellopeter.com/vodacom/complaints-to-compliments/call-limte-up-dated-but-no-phone-network-1101653
-
every bit of it depends on how relevant the clients website is to yours along with that you would have to hope to have a high-quality website pointing at you from the client.
Is this on Google plus or something similar that you're talking about because it sounds like you don't have control of the content?
Sincerely,
Thomas

Houston Company Needs Help (Will Our SEO Work Be Destroyed While Site is Down?, Can Anything be Done?)
I'm a Moz member, mostly just lurk, and love the Moz community. I work at a non profit company that does benchmarking data and helps school districts improve process in education. Our building flooded and our site is currently offline, is there anything we can do to stop/lesson any SEO page rank drop between now and when we are back up? We have worked very hard to get these rankings. I know it is minor compared to all tragedy in Houston, but we have worked hard to get these SEO gains (YEAH MOZ!) and I'd hate to lose them because of Harvey. Any suggestions, assistance appreciated! Ralph

How do you check what links there are to a specific page on a site?
Hi Mozzers, I'm doing a bit of research and need your help! I'm trying to find out what specific sites link to a particular page on a website. What's the best tool to use as I checked it with Moz and it only brought back 5 links? Then I tried an free online tool and it said there were 35 links. I'm a bit confused now. What tool/s do you use to check links to a specific page?

Site "Internal" Search Full-Text Indexing vs. Manual Tagging
I’m looking for recommendations on how to power site search in an efficient way. Ideally, I would like to get recommendations on platforms, tools, trends, technology and resources. This discussion does not really refer to SEO or site search optimization. It is more related to the technology used to power site search. I would like to get an idea on the differences between full-text indexing site search and site search that requires manual tagging.

How often do you submit to local search/citation sites?
I recently received a Network Solutions spam/offer email regarding their internet marketing packages. One of the "benefits" they cited was that they submit your information to local search/citation sites once a month, to keep it up-to-date. I don't know about you guys, but my clients' information isn't changing on a frequent basis. I remember when it used to be a tactic to submit regularly to the same citation sites, but that seems like overkill now. Does anyone still do this, or is NS just trying to make their product sound good? Do we need to update citation sites frequently, or is it enough to update when there are actual changes to make?

Should URL Follow Navigation Of A Site?
Following an SEOMoz webinar the other day, where the presenter made a case of eliminating folders in URLs, as these could confuse a bot when crawling a site. I love the idea. However, there are still a lot of Best Practices and guidelines out there that will suggest there should be a logic in the URL, just as there should be in your Navigation. My question in that regard is whether or not there is any value for a bot to crawl a website URL that follows the navigation by "stuffing" the URL with folders, identical to the navigation present on the site, and even a secondary navigation present on all pages? Example: the navigation of a site goes [Domain > Folder > Sub folder > Sub-sub folder > product]. What is the benefit of using a URL such as [www.domain.com/folder/sub-folder/sub-sub-folder/product] vs [www.domain.com/product] Thank you guys for your insights! PS this is a WP site we are talking about.

Link building concept (Croslink different mediums sites for seo purposes)
Hello all. This is my first post to seomoz.
SERP Trends | | nikosvasilakos
A large News Media Group has a News Vortal and 3 magazines (for kids, health, fashion)
All those different mediums have their content in independant websites (since the branding of all 5 Medium is very strong).
My question is how to croslink them editorially for seo purposes?
Is it ok if i put a news box at every magazine site?
Should i create links to news articles or to news categories or both?
Do links from unrelated sites dilute your rankings for your key phrases ? Thanks in advance0 -
Pros and Cons Google Site Search
I'm having a hard time finding the actual pros and cons of implementing Google Site Search on a website. Thoughts? Any data on bounce rate of internal SERP because UX doesn't look like the website? I know you can customize, but most examples I've seen still look pretty different from the stie's native style. Any other cons? Data issues, etc?
