Google and Pinterest which way to verify
-
My objective (I think) is to let Google know I have a Pinterest Business page and see the links going from Pinterest to my website. Pinterest has provided me with a meta tag to verify my site but I'm thinking I need to be going the opposite direction. I should be placing a meta tag provided by Google on my Pinterest page.
Is it possible to add a meta tag to my Pinterest Business page? Or does it really matter whether Pinterest verifies my website or Google verifies my Pinterest Business page?

Thanks, I'll get the Pinterest meta tag posted to my website right away.

Google is the Eye of Sauron so don't worry about having to tip them off to your Pinterest page... they can see the interconnection and traffic. If you have Google Analytics set up for your site, you should be able to see all that lovely traffic coming from Pinterest in Traffic Sources > Sources > Referrals.

Hi Gary,
You'll want to verify Pinterest just as the instructions say. Google doesn't actually use the Pinterest verification for anything - verifying just allows you to link to your domain from your Pinterest profile - google's gonna crawl and index it either way.
So google will know the link is there, but honestly, don't count on social profile links like this making much of a difference for SEO. However, if you're active and connected on that network, pinterest can sure drive some referral traffic to your site. Hope that helps! -
Hi Gary,
I think you have mixed things up a bit! You can verify your website with pinterest by uploading a file or adding a meta tag to your html. It gives you that nice little check mark next to your domain name and is easy to do, it also gives you access to some pinterest specific analytics (maybe that is where the confusion has arisen?). See here: https://help.pinterest.com/entries/23296713-Pinterest-Web-Analytics
Google does not need you to 'verify' you pinterest page to see links and record visits from pinterest to your site in GA.
Hope that helps!

Is this a good way to create engaging content?
Hi all, I believe this is my first question in this forum, so be nice 🙂 I am an SEO consultant who has recently gone out and started my own SEO consultancy. Obviously, I now find myself in a place where I am trying to create good content for my website visitors. Maybe it's link bait, or more than likely it's a way to hold myself up as an expert in the industry, while providing visitors to my site some reason to keep on coming back. As I love whiteboard Friday, I did consider - and I'm not ruling it out in the future - creating my own whiteboard Friday videos discussing the SEO issues I was focussing on. In the meantime, I am thinking of posting up SEOmoz's whiteboard Friday videos and then making my own comments and insights for my website visitors. So, what I really wanted to ask - do you guys think this is a good idea, a valid way of creating good content and has merit/credibility? http://www.nustudio.com.au/local-seo-the-basics/ contains an example of what I am talking about. Cheers, Steve

Favorite Ways to Track Your Links?
Hi Mozzers! I'm trying to streamline my company's link building process, and I've noticed we don't have a great way of tracking /measuring our inbound links yet. Obviously methods like Open Site Explorer are great for getting a big-picture view of inbound links, but do you guys use other methods for measuring your link building campaign? What are they? Thanks!

Help me understand the gap between DMOZ and the Google Directory?
I have seen other sites showing up in OSE with backlinks from both DMOZ and Google Directory. We are in DMOZ, and our backling is showing for that in OSE, but i don't understand how to get added to the Google directory? When i go to the appropriate category, and click "submit link" it just takes me back to DMOZ! Is there something i'm doing wrong here? This is the page we are on in DMOZ And this is the page i believe we should be on in the google directory As a side note, i would love to hear your opinions if this really even matters? does google really use it's own directory as part of its search algorithm?
