Websites copying my content and spamming it on 15+ different domains- WHY?? More pop up as I try to take each one down- what do they gain from this?
-
I own http://TheCareerProject.org and in the last 3 months over 15 sites have popped up copying my content and Google is scanning it as my own. Why would a site do this? Is it a hacker campaign to take away rankings? What benefits do they get from this. EXAMPLE1 : http://germanbollati.com/heat-victor-hugo-juarez-puebla/, EXAMPLE 2: http://rsa-dev1.com/unbalanced-underwriting-outsourcing-india/ There are 15 more I have submitted to Google Webmaster to evaluate and I contact the site owners and majority do not respond. Why are they doing this and what can I do? Thank you - Alicia- info@thecareerproject.org

Hi Lewis,
Thank you for the quick response. I have contacted 8/15 domains through whois and majority of them are people who are being hacked by unknown person who I think is doing all of it since the weird fake content is all related. The other people just never get back to me.
I have sitemeter.com on there and it shows Google BOTS are scanning their URLS as part of my site though our URL has nothing in common. Won't this ruin my pagerank if they think this content is affiliated with them? There are no advertisements- I see no benefit other than to ruin the credibility of my site. If you can think of anything else please let me know.
Thanks again,
Alicia

It would seem that they are trying to benefit from either the adverts that they display or from the links they add to the page that isn't your content but know that they would never get any clicks if they were on a site with no content so they steal other peoples content.
I would use whois to try and get their details and ask them to stop (which it sounds like ou have done), if that fails I would try and contact their host (can often work out the company from the whois record) to get them to bring the site down.

Site migration 301's list on Apache server - when do I take the old migrated URLs off our 301 list?
Howdy! The site was migrated last year to a new platform, therefore the URLs were migrated over using 301 redirect rules. Since then, the server has a huuuuge list of rules for URLs and I wanted to know when can we start taking these off of the list? And, how can I test to see if they are still indexing, do I simply just add the url to the google search bar? Thanks Guys! Kay

How much dev knowledge as an seo do I need to know in order to make small changes on websites?
Hi mozzers I am considering learning some dev just to be able to make minor changes on websites. I love seo but will never want to be a programmer. I get sometimes frustrated that I have to request my dev colleague to make minor changes such as adding a small piece of codes to a website for verification purposes or adding rich snippet or modifying the ga code to get more out of it. I know some HTML and understands the core elements and attributes. My first question would be: what should I learn without learning A-Z of programming? My guess would be some php and? My second question: based on your answer where can I learn about these programs? Any interactive learning services such as team treehouse ? Any online courses? Thanks!

Difference Between www.domain.com and www.domain.com/ ?
Hi, Of course, it is obvious that when other sites link to you, they choose how to do so in terms of the anchor text. My questions is: 1. Most of the domain names I see on the web are: www.domain.com/ however, I am pretty sure that when someone thinks you have a site that there members can benefit by they will link to: www.domain,com , am I coorect in stating that the search engines (SE) see these as two separate and distinct domains? 2. If so, are these too, then these must be different and distinct as well: www.domain.com/best-service vs. www.domain.com/best-service/ **I went on that assumption and have created 301 directs for the latter example. ** 3. How would one check to see if a 301 direct is in place? As always, I am appreciated to this site and member's skills. Jim

Market Motive - Take their SEO Course?
Hi there, I'm considering taking Market Motive's online SEO course for $3,500. It's a steep price for me so I wanted to ask you guys if this is a wise choice. The course would grant me certification and is around 90 days to complete. Has anyone had any experience with this course? It seems a little old, but Market Motive claims they update their videos.

Sale-a-day websites massive unused seo power, where's their marketing?
How do these companies market themselves so well? Is it 90% social media? www.gilt.com http://www.hautelook.com/ http://www.ozsale.com.au/ I'm curious to how they initially got off the ground and it seems like I need to be exploring these marketing techniques as well.
