Google Local Places and Organic Listing?
-
Hi All,
Is it possible to have visibility in Google local places as well first page in Google for same set of keywords?
-
I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to respond and say I would choose a local blended result vs organic listing. It would seem that it is easier to hold on to local listings, as organic listings are more prone to change and movement in the SERPS. I feel I can generally count on local listings to rank vs organic listings.

I'll try that again: http://www.davidmihm.com/local-search-ranking-factors.shtml

Hi Ruchi,
What you are experiencing is a common phenomenon. Your former organic rank has been subsumed into your new blended/local rank. This is why you are no longer seeing your organic result as a separate result.
This usually occurs once a business begins engaging in Local Search Marketing in some form. Perhaps you claimed your Google+ Local listing or started building citations on various local directories recently?
Unless you want to completely delete all local references to your business, then your current blended/local rank is here to stay.
It is possible to go after a secondary organic ranking by optimizing a second page on your website. This doesn't always work, but it sometimes does if the competition isn't too tough.
I'm interested to know why you would prefer to have an organic listing over a blended/local one. Are you experiencing something negative? Feel free to provide additional details if your questions/concerns have not yet been answered.

Thanks Chris.
That link returned a 404. I'll check out Dr. Pete's post as I need to get on the same page as the rest of you.
What does it mean to, "In my case first page organic result has been disappeared and merged with Google local places."

AWCthreads,
Be sure to take into account that Google algorithmically places a certain subset of local results on the first page of a local-oriented search, thus some computational logic goes into prioritizing those results, making them much different than a directory.

If it is even possible for your specific search, work on optimizing a second page for the keyword /geo-modifier search. It should contain solid vocabulary referring to the product/service as well as the location. Make the page a strong resource for the those who would be searching for a combination of those terms. Local references and back links to that page will benefit you a lot as will outbound links to local external sources.
Check out Dr. Pete's recent post on determining the make up of page-1 organic/blended/local search results. I highly recommend that you go through the exercise that he lays out--it's very informative.

This has happened to some of my geographical rankings too. I'd be really interested if anyone can shed any light as how to reverse it? Thanks

Thanks Chris,
In my case first page organic result has been disappeared and merged with Google local places. I want my organic result back. Is there any way to get back my old result??

I'm not sure what you are asking.
Google places is like a directory. You are submitting your physical business to Google and then are verified as the owner.
This helps people looking for a local product or service ie "keyword + city and or state" find your business. Google really likes providing reliable local search results for people.
If you're asking if a geo-targeted keyword can rank page 1 nationally when the searcher does not enter a city and or state with a keyword, then the answer is yes it can.
Depending on the domain/page authority of your site/page and the competitve nature of your keyword you can but it is more difficult because you are competing with everybody outside of your city/region/state.
We have a physical presence and rank geo-targeted keywords for non-geo targeted searches but in my experience the competition for those keywords is not very strong.
-
Yes it is, if it is a blended result and the local/blended results show at the top of the page. It's also possible for two different pages to rank--with the home page showing in the local results further down on the page and a second page showing algorithmically in the #1 organic spot. I've seen this a number of times.

Brand on Google Knowledge Panel
Hi, I have a question that maybe someone can give me some insight, as I haven't been able to get any kind of solution by Google My Business support so far for several months. Our brand "neakriti" is a news organization located in Greece. If you search the brand "neakriti", you get all the results as normal, but the "Knowledge Panel" on the right of the search appears empty. However, if you search the brand as "neakriti.gr" on google search, it appears on the Knowledge Panel. I have been talking about this on the phone support of Google My Business for months now (more than a year), and I get responses like, "give it some more time and it will appear on neakriti results too". We are authority for the keyword "neakriti", and it is our site that appears first. Our website is linked to the business profile too. I have claimed the business, I have filled all its information, with daily posts specifically for the knowledge panel and so on. Is there any suggestion as to why we are unable to show up with just the brand name on the knowledge panel, or suggestions for actions we can possibly take?

Brand name not ranking in Google
Hi Moz'ers, Could you help me with something I cannot seem to figure out by myself. In June 2017 my company started a rebranding campaign. We've changed our brand name and launched a new website: https://spotler.com. Everything is going fine, but if you Google our brand name "Spotler" our website doesn't show up. How can it be? Our domain authority is 38. It would be wonderful if you could help me. Let me know if you need more information. Best, Simone

Google + and Schema
I've noticed with a few of the restaurant clients I work with that Schema isn't contributing at all to their SERP -- their Google + page is. Is there any way to have more control over what Google is pulling to help make UX better? I.e. showing photos of the restaurant without a logo, etc.

My own brand name disappeared from google?
Hi, about 20-30 hours ago my own brand name disappeared from google results (We redirected old domain to new one about a month ago) My website is: www.websiteplanet.com If you search for Website Planet in google you will not find our homepage any longer.

Not only that the brand name disappeared but we also dropped in rankings and lost about %50 of the organic traffic we had. It's important for me to say that we have never done any sort of blackhat or even greyhat SEO, at all. I could probably come up with many ideas of why it happened but maybe one of you mozzers already experienced this and could enlighten me. Will really appreciate any kind of response/help. Thanks.0 -
How come I get different rankings on same word in local search results of Google?
Dear fellow Mozzer's, for one of my clients I get different local results in Google. My client is a real-estate broker and when I search on "real-estate agent" + the city name we are on top. So whoohoo you would say BUT when Firefox has the exact city name determined as the location I am in and I only use "real-estate agent" I get also the local results but we are listed as number 8?? Hope anyone can give me insights as I have no idea what's causing this. Thanks in advance for your help!

Google omitting some entries
Hi, I used this tool to test some domains. The tool can be found at http://www.virante.com/seo-tools/duplicate-content I have no questions about the other checks but with the similarity check. My question is how do i get Google not to omit some entries very similar to the top 1000 pages on my site? Will appreciate your answers, thanks. Suleman

Google places: 7 weeks and still not verified. Reasons?
I've created Google Places entries for the business' 25 locations in 8 countries. It's been 7 weeks and Google hasn't validated my bulk upload yet. Which of the following would you say might do the trick? URL: I have pointed to http://site.com/country/city for every location. Should I point to http://site? I've created categories in English, but being this about local I guess I should do it in the local language of each country... Should I cancel the bulk upload and do one country per country? My list of countries include Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia so I don't know if manual verification is done by google centrally and that might be a problem. Otherwise the entries are (IMHO) well written, detailed and all. But I'm kind of desperate now because it's 7 weeks already... thanks for you help
