Open Site Explorer: Facebook Shares, Likes, etc.

I don't fully understand what this means in the report for our site: http://screencast.com/t/aG5jbkYWLA here is our site: www.discountqueens.com & we have thousands of fans & facebook likes and all the time on all our posts. For example yesterday we had 73 likes on this post alone: http://www.discountqueens.com/amazon-ultimate-shrinky-dinks-jewelry-designer-1495/
So here's my questions:
-
Is there an error in the reporting?
-
Are we using a social sharing method that isn't giving us valid credit for these links?
-
What should I consider doing differently & why isn't our likes, shares, tweets & Google+ being calculated into our score?
-
-
Yea, what I'm thinking I'll do is now that I've got the base of fans just focus more attention on getting them to now 'Like' the URL. Shouldn't be too difficult & will help to increase our 'SEO' worthy likes. Up until now, I just never new there was a difference, so thanks for the insight, huge help!
-
It would be a good experiment, but are you willing to lose Fan page likes (regular readers) against URL likes (one timers).
I just made a search to see if there was any info on a test but couldn't find anything (no one tested that yet, apparently) but practically the same answer to your question: http://ux.stackexchange.com/questions/16810/best-practices-for-facebook-website-like-vs-page-like
-
Excellent, thank you for the insight! Yes, I would agree being able to reach our 73 fans is more valuable to use, especially with our niche, than to have them one time liker's on our URL. It would be an interesting comparison though with our search rankings on how much of a bump it would give us with organic traffic if there 73 were counting towards our URL.
-
Exactly, those 73k likes are liking your facebook page, not your site (URL). Test using your facebook page in OSE, how many facebook likes does it show? I am guessing about 73k
It has nothing to do with "where" the like took place, visiting your site, the user can click the LIKE button within your facebook page plugin and they are liking your facebook page, not your Website.
No one knows how or even IF social interactions help rankings, we are all guessing they do, but no one is certainly sure or knows how much they help. That said, a like to your URL is more valuable SEOwise, however, people liking your URL just liked your URL, while if they like your facebook page, you can have constant contact to those users.
You decide whether to have the like button or the like box, both, or a like button with your facebook page as the href. I would actually go with the like box or the like button using my facebook page, that way I can earn users that I can actually reach later.
-
Interesting, so with our 73k fans: http://screencast.com/t/Qzxh99VZeX are you saying they are not being reported in OSE because the 'like' didn't happen directly on our home page - rather within Facebook or somewhere else?
I'm guessing this is intentional within the report? If that is the case, are you saying that if our 73k fans were showing up in the OSE report, would it make a dramatic difference not only in the report but with our search rankings & competitiveness? Which I would conclude means that a like from a page is valued more, than a like from within Facebook?
Sorry for the ramble...just trying to understands what's going on here & why it would be intentional? Do you have any articles you can refer to that might help to better understand why?
Thanks!

OSE doesn't report the "likes", "tweets" or "+1s" that you may get on your pages or accounts. If you make a post on Facebook or have a page with millions of likes, it doesn't matter at all for the OSE report.
What matters is actually the amount of likes your URL received, the same applies for g+ and twitter. To increase that, you should place the Like, Tweet and G+ button on your homepage, or change the "href" of whatever buttons your have in your site.
This like button:
will return 19 likes (which are the likes that URL received). Almost the same amount OSE reports
This one:
will return 73 (same happens here: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.discountqueens.com%2Famazon-ultimate-shrinky-dinks-jewelry-designer-1495%2F).
Hope that helps!

New pages on my web site
I have created web sites that appear somewhere on Google in hardly any time at all, but I appear to have forgotten something or things are different for pages added recently to an existing website. I have added a page on a particular subject, optimized it using on page grader, so that I get an A, and a check mark for everything except H1 tags and rel=canonical which my web hosting provider does not support. I do have a check mark for accessible to search engines The page has the format http://www.domain.com/specific-keyword It is in the menu, so should have internal links to it, as I understand it. I have created a new site map, and submitted it in webmaster tools. Interestingly it says that of the 96 pages only 76 were indexed is this a clue? and why would they not index a page I have then shared the page on google plus, facebook, tumblr, pinterest and twitter and some others In OSE it comes up as domain authority 28 page authority 1, the social media shares do show up in metrics on the right but no links internal or external are shown, they do on other pages I created in the same way. Is it just a case of waiting or is their something I do to help thank you

Moz doesn’t show the right facebook likes.
Hi moz help, I found out that in opensiteexplorer.org our Facebook likes counts zero, while my facebook account actually counts more than 600 likes. How is this possible? Did I not couple my facebook account correctly to my website? The address is http://www.onlinefietsonderdelenkopen.nl and the Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/onlinefietsonderdelenkopen

Open Site Explorer and Escaped Fragments
Does OSE have the ability to crawl AJAX pages utilizing Google's escaped fragment directive? I ask because I'm seeing all our AJAX built pages returning HTTP status codes of 404 when I run OSE reports. See for yourself

How can you set SEOmoz to work with your dev site behind an htpasswd?
All sites need to be developed from the small to the grand - and this takes time. Development usually takes place on a subdomain different from our live domain. It is locked down behind an htpasswd during development so its not picked up by searching engines - that may create duplicate content issues if when the site goes live it has already scanned our site on the development server. Its also a security implementation to keep the site away from prying eyes before its ready for launch There could be security holes that have not been tweaked. Whats the best strategy to get SEOmoz involved in this scenario. Its tools are invaluable to the SEO part of the build - but the seomoz crawler bot has a different IP address (being cloud based) - so we cannot just let a single IP address through our htpasswd. Also is there a way to link the dev and live site in seomoz - so when it goes live to maintain all teh same logs without having to create two seperate site campaigns? Thanks!

Handling long URLs and overly-dynamic URLs on eCommerce site
Hello Forum, I've been optimizing an eCommerce site and our SEOmoz crawls are favorable for the most part, except for long URLs and overly-dynamic URLs. These issues stem from two URL types: Layered navigation (faceted search) and non-Google internal search results. I outline the issues for each below. We use an SEO-friendly URL structure for our product category pages, but once bots start "clicking" our layered navigation options, all the parameters are appended to our SEO-friendly urls, causing the SEOmoz crawl warnings. Layered Navigation :
Moz Pro | | pano
SEO-Friendly Category Page: oursite.com/shop/meditation-cushions.html Effects of layered navigation: oursite.com/shop/meditation-cushions.html?bolster_material_quality=414&bolsters_appearance=206&color=12&dir=asc&height=291&order=name As you can see the parameters include product attributes and page sorts. I should note that all pages generated by these parameters use the element to point back to the SEO-friendly URL We have also set up Google's Webmaster Tools to handle these parameters. Internal Search Function:
Our URLs start off simple: oursite.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=brown. Then the bot clicks all the layered navigation options, yielding oursite.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?appearance=54&cat=67&clothing_material=83&color=12&product_color=559&q=brown. Also, all search results are set to noindex, follow. My question is: Should we worry about these overly-dynamic and long ULR warnings? We have set up canonical elements, "noindex, follow" solutions, and configured Webmaster Tools to handle our parameters. If these are a concern, how would you resolve these issues?0 -
Recent backlinks in Open Site Explorer as not showing
I saw the note today that the link index did it's monthly update, yet our site www.oznappies.com still only shows 1 linking root domain and I know there are many more links now. What do I need to do to get open Site Explorer to use the latest data? I enter our site, create the report and only see old information from 6 may 2011's link index. I have the same issue with competive link finder, links I know we have on the sites listed for our competitors are not showing for our site.
