Have name.org want to get name.com should .com redirect to .org or other way around?
-
Its a non profit organization. With name.org acquired in 2006. name.com will be acquired soon. In SEO terms it would make sense for me just to get .com and redirect to the original .org but from the standpoint of 7 year history of name.org is it worth keeping or its irrelevant or not that important or really important. I am in the process of rebuilding the site other than the initial domain home links to other pages do not matter at the moment. Thanks Mozzies

So part of this is a new website branding, and this organization is trying to attract younger crowd and I am not sure of the studies but they might prefer .com as .org seems like an older tradition. But just guesses here

Clickthrus in SERPs are pretty much the same for .org and .com domains. If they want a new image, having it at a .com will not make that happen. A new website, new messaging, etc, that will all change their image. As long as you can keep them from moving to like a .biz, you're probably fine. The aged-ness of a domain isn't all that relevant, although a lot of SEOs like to bring it up. You could switch the domain with basically no harm, but Irving is right. If it's a charity or a non-profit, there is a weird expectation that their site be on a .org.

Irving,
Yea that is what I was thinking, seems obvious, but the org wanted to build a new image and try to appear more modern, by having the main domain be .com. How much benefit is that 7 years for the site, practically any ideas?
-
It definitely matters, since it's an aged and trusted domain AND it's a not for profit site definitely leave it as .org and forward the .com name to the .org site.

Meta robots at every page rather than using robots.txt for blocking crawlers? How they'll get indexed if we block crawlers?
Hi all, The suggestion to use meta robots tag rather than robots.txt file is to make sure the pages do not get indexed if their hyperlinks are available anywhere on the internet. I don't understand how the pages will be indexed if the entire site is blocked? Even though there are page links are available, will Google really index those pages? One of our site got blocked from robots file but internal links are available on internet for years which are not been indexed. So technically robots.txt file is quite enough right? Please clarify and guide me if I'm wrong. Thanks

Redirecting Blog WITHOUT .htaccess
Hello Mozzers! I currently have a WordPress blog on a subdomain that I'd like to redirect to a subdirectory. Unfortunately, the CMS that I am on will not allow me implement a rewrite rule because we do not have access to the server (It's on Shopify, which is a fully hosted solution). If we set up a 301 from blog.domain.com to domain.com/blog, will all my link juice be preserved? Or is it better just to keep it on the subdomain for now? I'd like to avoid importing all my content into Shopify's native blog, if I can, just because we may be moving to another CMS shortly. Thank you in advance! -Alima Team

What is the best way to organize a catergory for SEO purpsoes?
I work for a organic vitamin and supplement company and we are looking to rank for our categories by making more specific categories. For example we are going to try to add under the category "vitamin d" some smaller more relevant (longer-tail) categories like "spray vitamin d" and "vegan vitamin d" and try to rank instead for these searches and also searches containing words that we already have more authority from Google like "natural" or "organic". I know that putting the product pages a level deeper will only hurt us so I want to avoid that but I'm wondering if anyone has some advice on how to organize categories for longer tail keywords that we actually have a chance to rank for. Any help to figure this out would be greatly appreciated. Here is our page as it is currently, like I said we want to create sub categories that are effective for SEO, but also make searching and navigating the site easier. http://www.mynaturalmarket.com/Vitamin-D.html Thanks, ThatKwameGuy

Any health bloggers/writers out there want to help in an experiment?
Hey mozzers, I'm trying a post-penguin experiment with a brand new website. New domain, separate hosting from all my other stuff, all that. It is run on an article script that allows new authors to make articles and post them. It is all health related and there are no other topics. I'm trying to see if a brand new site can get something to rank quickly with no SEO being done. No links of any kind, just social media sharing of articles. Authors can put links in their articles to anywhere they want, so if you want to help your health site out with a link, go for it. I'm looking for any writers who want to join us in this experiment. i figure if we get a lot of content on there, all original, no spun, natural links, we can do well. if so, I'm abandoning all penguin hit domains and starting over. And you all can get some links out of it. I've already got me and my employees, so the more the merrier. Just let me know if interested.

Schema.org
Hola Is there any consensus as yet as to whether people plan to use schema.org as the content markup standard rather than RDFa and microformats? There are some arguments flying around about the benefits and disbenefits, but the pragmatic answer to this question IMHO lies in how many people take this up rather than any arguments on what is best. Thanks to any and all who reply. Thanks Neil
