Traffic by keyword- phenomenon
-
I have several keywords that seem to bring visitors in but when I look at my rankings it shows that I have no ranking authority at all. Are these just robots or some non human click? Or how do I even get these visitors?
-
You were correct- the KW were listed in my GA. So, for example, "zt amplifiers" there have been 3 clicks today, but I am not ranked in google, and I am 80 - 90 rank in yahoo/bing. So in looking as you suggest at pages and time, I see 100% bounce, 1 page...can I conclude bot?
And if so how do the bots come by way of keywords anyway? Is that typical? I always thought they just started at one point and spidered through links as they found them on the page.

if you're keywords are something extremely easy to rank for and are not competitive at all then your site will rank for those keywords if it is the only one trying to.
For instance if I had gobbledygook as my keyword I'm sure I could rank very well.
If you're trying to determine whether or not the search came from a robot or not.
Use the IP address who.is it will show you rather not it is a bot most of the time.
It should not really be concerning if you are getting traffic that is always a good thing. What I would care about is converting that traffic into either a customer or whatever your business actually has set out to achieve.
Can you give me an example of the keywords? If you like you can use what's called a this tool to tell you rather not your keyword is hard to rank for or not.
https://moz.com/researchtools/keyword-difficulty
if it turns out to be bots that are bothering you. A tool like cloud flair will help you.
However a bot will not enter a keyword in your analytics I know it is tough to separate people from bots today because so many people are signed in to Google and its encrypted using SSL however if there is a keyword search that you can see in your analytics that is 99% of the time a person.
I hope this helps,
Thomas

I guess I got your question! So you are saying that GA is giving you the information that someone have visited your website using particular keyword but when you manually search the keyword on Google you do not find your website in the SERP listings...
If I get your question right, I think there can be different reasons why someone is coming to your website by using particular keyword which is manually not available in SERPs.
- Difference of Geographical location can cause this. For instance you are in US and searching results against a particular query but me being at the different location if search the same keyword our results will be different and that’s mainly because of the location difference! There is a strong possibility that your website is ranking on social other geographic location.
- This also can be a result of personalized search. Google shows results on basis of the user’s personal search behaviour so may be some users are getting your website on top because of their search behaviour.
They can be bot as well but above two options cannot be ignored!
I would advise you to dive deep in to analytics to see if they are real people or bits and this can be checked by tracking their geographical location, time they stayed on the site, pages they have visited and more...
Hope this helps!

Joseph,
I think we are suffering a bit from lack of information on this one. So, let me try and lay this out to seek clarity:
YourSite.com is getting some small amount of traffic you believe for a few KWs. The most important question is what makes you think you are getting this traffic for these terms? Is it that your site has queries in GWMT or KW in GA for specific keywords like KWexample1, KWexample2, and KWexample3?
You are also saying the landing pages for the three KWs above have no page authority (PA) associated with them, and you are wondering how anyone would find them?
I am wondering if you are using Google Analytics based on the last 2 questions: Are these just robots or some non human click? Or how do I even get these visitors?
Assuming you have GA code installed correctly and you have access to it, go to your dashboard and click on Traffic Sources (Left Side about 2/3s down) and you will see: Sources - click it and you will see Search - click it and you will see Organic - click it and you will see Key words listed to your right (are these terms in here? (Remember it will default to the first ten but there are more, look to bottom right to go to next page or to show more on a page. You can also click 'Keyword' to order by alpha. If the KWs are in here, it is organic search. If not, look at referrals or Direct to see if they are there. This will show you where the traffic is from. That will not guarantee someone is not searching using automation, but it is not a spider/bot.
Hope that helps you out,
Robert

Re-classifying a Traffic Source in Google Analytics
Hey All, I think it's inside of the Admin section of Google Analytics, right now I have a traffic source from the domain of indeed.ca that is being classified as Organic traffic when it should be classified as referring traffic, how can I tell Google Analytics that all traffic from this source should be classified as referral traffic and not organic traffic? Furthermore, after I make this change, will Google Analytics re-classify my past data so I can do a proper analysis? I can't remember how to do this and any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Traffic Drop with no real explaination?
Hello Everyone, On one of my sites PokerOnaMac we experienced a 75% drop in traffic in about a week (since September 3rd). I took a look at GA and the penalties have been applied sitewide. I also checked my Google Webmaster Tools, and there are no messages regarding "unhealthy link structures." We have had other sites penalized by Penguin & Manual Removals, but they are recovering now. What is my best bet to find what is wrong? Thanks

Segmenting traffic from referring sites in GA
Most of our traffic is from Referring sites, and in referring sites, job sites are sending most of the traffic. How can we segment traffic from job sites. There are about 40 such sites. We would like to receive a report which shows traffic excluding from these job sites.
