A client asked: "Are you guys aware of any recent changes to Google noquery traffic? I am seeing some chatter around this." Is he referring to "not provided" traffic?
-
I'm not sure what my client means by this question. I assume he's talking about "not provided" traffic. Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks for reading!
-
excellent link. Thanks for sharing.
-
I just logged in and actually did have it set up already haha I guess it's time to learn a little more about it. Certainly not as robust as GA and I'm assuming this is only Bing data?
Our pages that drive traffic all usually rank well on Google but Bing doesn't look like it has nearly the same numbers, even relative to each other.
-
Don't feel dumb, I only recently started using it myself. Yes it's called their "webmaster tools" and is pretty decent. I'd recommend checking it out.
-
I feel dumb for asking this, but Bing has a Google Analytics alternative?
-
So what I get from that is that tools using adwords data are fine for keyword research, but that actual visitor analytics is not going to reveal much anymore.
-
Bing?
-
I'm very concerned about losing all of that insight, not only for reporting but for making decisions based on the traffic were getting from which keywords. Does anyone have any alternatives or suggestions?
Here's a good article going over the change - http://searchengineland.com/post-prism-google-secure-searches-172487

Interesting link. Thanks

Yes I would say they're referring to (not provided) which is currently SKYROCKETING at unprecedented levels. I would wonder why they are asking this question and what exactly they are expecting you to do with GA keyword entry data. I would personally try to get to the root of this question.
They may just be testing your knowledge of SEO or they may be wondering how you are going to research keywords and prove that your targeted phrases are gaining visitors. This should be something you can address if so.
But look at this:
-
I am not sure your client fully understands what is meant by this, and indeed I am not sure I fully understand. However, as I see it, there is an increasing trend for your Google Analytics to report no information when it reports to you, making it harder to get decent view of where your traffic is coming from.
To quote an article: http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2290098/3-Ways-Ecommerce-Websites-Can-Grow-or-Maintain-Organic-Search-Traffic
"Those with their sleeves pushed up working day-to-day on SEO know the reasons why this is happening – searchers who are logged into Google accounts, Firefox users, and most mobile searchers pass "no query" when they click on organic-search links – causing analytics systems to report it without a query."

Significant drop in traffic
Hi there, We run 3 websites in a similar niche (bins) but tend to have a different area of focus on each site, wheelie, recycling and general litter. They all have unique descriptions, images etc (as much as possible) One of our sites has been a long standing penalty sufferer and we still dont want to give up on it. They are all located on unique IP's but on the same server with the same owner in whois. My question is could our site that has struggled with a penalty in the past be effecting our other sites which havent had problems? I know google likes to see brands and we do regular content, social media etc on all the sites, The drop came today and appears across all our sites. The main site that had the penalty usually gets around 50 visits a day from search, so far today it has had 10 and that is most of the working day now gone. I hope someone can shed a little light on the issues we are facing Thank you Jon

Drop in Organic Traffic
Hi all, last Thursday (1/31) our organic traffic and conversions fell off the map, going from 15% of our traffic to just over 5%. We've started creeping back up, we were nearly 7% yesterday, but I'm wondering if anyone else experienced an extreme drop in traffic or any advice on what we should be doing next. We are currently building links from University and government organizations and are always creating fresh content on our blog and website pages. One thing that we thought of is this timeline corresponds with when we created a Google + local listing for our company. Is there any possibility we stopped appearing in as many national search results since we have a local listing? Our domain is www.dishcostsless.com. Any advice would be very helpful. Thank!

De-indexed homepage in Google - very confusing.
A website I provide content for has just suffered a de-indexed homepage in Google (not in any of the other search engines) - all the other pages remained indexed as usual. Client asked me what might be the problem and I just couldn't figure it out - no linkbuilding has ever been carried out so clean backlink profile, etc. I just resubmitted it and it's back in its usual place, and has maintained the rankings (and PR) it had before it disappeared a few days ago. I checked WMT and no warnings or issues there. Any idea why this might've happened?

Google and Wikipedia
Ok, I love Wikipedia as much as the next guy but the amount of weight that google puts on this site is getting crazy. My search terms that I am going after are "speakers" and "loudspeakers" Can somebody tell me why wikipedia needs the top 8 -10 spots for those terms? is that really a good search result for users of google? More of a rant then a question I know. I just needed to get that off my chest!.
