Wordpress or Joomla?

I'm very interested on what users here use and why?
From my experience regarding online SEO, both CMSs are equal.
However, the ease of use is a different story. While both systems have a learning curve, wordpress is the easiest to learn thus making it probably the most popular CMS today.
Joomla on the other hand takes a bit more time to understand but when learned, can be quite flexible.
So if anyone here is kind enough to add their thoughts, I'm all ears!

I personally would go with WordPress as well. WordPress is easier to understand, and it is more popular as well. Less people are familiar with Joomla, so there would be a more difficult transition period if you ever decide to pass the site off to someone else or ask someone else to help. There are also a large number of plug-ins for WordPress, and the cost of hiring help is relatively inexpensive. From an SEO perspective, I believe they would be about equal.

Wordpress, All the way. One answer because of its huge and kind support community.
Hope this helps

I always recommend WordPress to my clients for a CMS solution. Joomla in our experiences and in dealing with client's who have also used Joomla, was a headache. WP makes things easy. With that comes less time in setting up a site, uploading content, images, links, creating pages, etc... Not to mention, training the client is much more simplistic in WP. We use Screencast-O-Matic to record our monitors in order to create client site specific tutorials so they can control many aspects they want to have control of or that they know will be more dynamic than say their "About" page.
When it comes to SEO, yes, both would seem fine to use. WP has a lot of support for this and tons of plugins. We use All In One SEO and Yoast SEO most of the time. We are huge WP advocates and recommend the CMS for majority of our client projects. We are in the process of quoting a client site revamp from Joomla to Responsive WP next week
Very happy about this to help us further their SEO campaign as they've been a client for over 2 years now. Can't wait to see what we can generate for them on the new WP site!
Always a great question to toss out to the community and thanks for the post! - Patrick

Try them both, there's free trials of each.
Personally, I'd go with Wordpress (after trying both myself.) Joomla's platform is inferior and their backend is weaker (opinions, but strong ones backed up with a bit of fact).
Also the community support for Wordpress is larger and there are more plugins and widgets. Not to mention the Yoast plugin is second-to-none in my opinion.
Still; try them both for yourself.

I would highly recommend Wordpress. Whilst typically it has been recognised as less powerful than the other platforms like Drupal (and indeed for for complicated websites this remains), there are alot of web designers out there making some extremely powerful feature rich themes which can make some excellent websites for businesses.
The benefit of WordPress, is that it is much more easy to customise, has a much better array of pre-made themes (see themeforest.net for example), and has lot more plugins available to add feature rich functionality.
As someone who learnt the trade using Drupal, and went over to WordPress I would recommend any small business looking for a website to use WordPress.

Wordpress is a blog software that went CMS. It's not a terribly large leap but it's important to note that Wordpress is still, by and large, used for blogging first and CMS second.
Joomla is a true CMS so it does more things and it tends to do them better than Wordpress in most cases but it's not as simple to use as Wordpress. It's also not as well supported, due to it not being as widely used. That doesn't make it bad, it's just a caveat.
If all you want is a basic website with a few pages, I'd go Wordpress. If you want something more thorough, go with a true CMS (Joomla, Drupal, etc), but be prepared for a steeper learning curve.

I personally tend to think most platforms are SEO agnostic. Most of the time the SEO features can easily be added in by someone that knows how to work with the platform fairly easy. I would go with Wordpress, just because I am more familiar with it than Joomla. At the same time, I think each has its own place though.

Custom HTML or WordPress, it's Time to Decide
Today I start the face to face interviews with website companies. So far most have pushed WordPress, few have offered either and one insisted on Joomla. Our 50+ products and services are primarily customized, so we sell -10 on our shopping cart. We rely primarily on organic Google rankings, SEO and content is critical. What do you, my fellow Mozzers, recommend for our next website platform for our mobile world and Google friendliness? TY, KJr

Does anyone know of an easy way to create jump links in WordPress without having to hardcode it into the HTML?
I am using Genesis Framework with the New Pro child theme on my site called Learn Internet Grow and when I create long articles I like to have a menu so readers can jump to a specific section. I wonder if there is a best practice for how to create jump links quickly without having to switch between the code editor and the post editor. There are a bunch of plugins but I am wary of adding more. Maybe if someone can tell me about one they had a good experience with. Ideally, a resource that shows you how to create a custom plugin for this or a non-plugin way to alter the framework to enable easy jump linking.

Yoast focus keywords for portfolio post types in WordPress
This one is for the WordPress optimization crowd! Portfolios are used to display work. I have a question about best seo optimization techniques. 1. Portfolios can be used to display many different types of work, for me it either original web designs from scratch, WordPress redesigns, or importing a current website into WordPress. What is the best practice for keywords for multiple portfolios that are in one category. for instance WordPress Redesign. If I have 5 WordPress redesign portfolio posts is it good practice to use WordPress redesign for all 5 portfolios or should they use variations? Yoast gets angry when the same focus keyword is used multiple times. 2. Should portfolios even be indexed? Since this is how I attract new customers I would think yes but am I giving too much exposure to my client and not enough to my business. I guess this will depend on titles and meta descriptions. A discussion on best practices here is what I am really looking for. What is your advice and opinion on the matter.

Wordpress Custom Permalinks Plugin Issue
Hello, I installed this plugin and I'm having trouble making it work. I'm new to WordPress so was hoping someone can help me out. I'm looking to set up the following pages for example

http://testsite.azurewebsites.net/Services/Services1
http://testsite.azurewebsites.net/Services/Services2 I do the following steps Add New Page Enter the following title "Services1" Enter the following text in the Permalink textbox "Services/Services1" replacing the default text "?page_id=140" Then I publish the page. This automatically updates the "Custom Fields" section below. The name is set to "custom_permalink" and the value is set to "Services/Services1". Then I "view page" but get a 404 error. The url is "http://testsite.azurewebsites.net/Services/Services1" Some additional info 1. Responsive Web Design WordPress Template Suggestions
Does anyone have any RWD WP templates they would suggest? It's for a friend of mine that is starting a local solar panel installation company. For the beginning, he likely will not have more than a handful of categories and subcategories. I'd say no more than 50 total pages. Any suggestions would help. He doesn't want to spend more than $50 - $100, but he's not married to that figure if it's worth it. Thanks everyone, Ruben

Switching over to wordpress
Hello fellow Mozers! I've searched to see if I find an answer, cant seem to find it. Is there a way to do a blanket 301 redirect? I am moving a site that has all pages end with .html extension over to wordpress. I was wondering if I could set up a rule that says redirect all pages with .html extension to a version of the page with no extension. I will keep the same url with the exception of the .html extension. http://www.website.com/page.html to http://www.website.com/page/
Web Design | | mike_sif
http://www.website.com/page-title.html to http://www.website.com/page-title/ Instead of doing a 301 redirect for about 250 pages, I was wondering if I can just do one rule that will handle all the redirects considering I am keeping the same page url without the .html extension. Thanks 🙂0 -
Is there a Consultant out there to help convert C#.net functions into PHP Wordpress functions?
We are going through a transition from SiteFinity (C# .net windows environment) to WordPress (PHP Linux environment). We currently have custom forms that make calls to webservices and also store data into SQL Server tables. Not sure how to do this in PHP and could use some help. We are located in Irvine, CA. We would prefer someone onsite, but can also work with someone remote if we must. Time is of the essence. Thanks.
