Deindexed site - is it best to start over?
-
A potential client's website has been deindexed from Google. We'd be completely redesigning his site with all new content. Would it be best to purchase a new url and redirect the old deindexed site to the new one, or try stick with the old domain?
-
Thanks to everyone for the info.
The main url they use is: http://tinyurl.com/l5sl4to however this is just an iframe to the .biz url. Neither url has many links, which all look fine. I'm thinking it could be for the frame?

Is it deindexed because of unnatural links? I've brought a couple of deindexed sites back to ranking well again for brand terms by doing a very thorough link cleanup but you've got to be very thorough. These sites usually need to start over (or close to over) again for their keyword rankings because in most cases the keyword rankings were only supported by unnatural links that are no longer counting again.
If this were my business I would take the following into account when deciding whether or not to start over:
-Do I have a lot invested in my url? i.e. Is my url used extensively in advertising, signage, etc.
-Do I have natural links pointing to this url already?
-Do I have the budget to hire someone to thoroughly clean the link profile and get the penalty lifted?
-Do I have the budget to hire someone who can help my website attract links naturally from this point on?
-
The REASON you got indexed is important. If it's because of linking then I would totally start over. The only trump card to that would be if you have strong brand signals. YOU CAN RECOVER but you'll have to determine if your metrics are strong or weak. If you had very strong metrics behind your site, then you can recover within a year and be back to where you were. If your signals are weak, then the effort to correct your issues will be the same time/money it would take to start over and build up domain metrics. Your Brand will matter. If you have good brand mentions then maybe staying on that domain is the best option.

Hi Will,
Before taking a decision like this, maybe you should analyze why was it deindexed?
I have seen websites getting deindexed because of technical issues, it might be worth taking a look.
Greetings,
Istvan

Test site got indexed in Google - What's the best way of getting the pages removed from the SERP's?
Hi Mozzers, I'd like your feedback on the following: the test/development domain where our sitebuilder works on got indexed, despite all warnings and advice. The content on these pages is in active use by our new site. Thus to prevent duplicate content penalties we have put a noindex in our robots.txt. However off course the pages are currently visible in the SERP's. What's the best way of dealing with this? I did not find related questions although I think this is a mistake that is often made. Perhaps the answer will also be relevant for others beside me. Thank you in advance, greetings, Folko

Is it best to create multiple xml sitemaps for different sections of a site?
I have a client with a very big site that includes a blog, videos, photo gallery, etc. Is it best to create a separate xml file for each of these sections? It seems to me like that would be the best way to keep everything organized. Or at least separate the blog out from the main site. Does anybody have any tips or recommendations? I'm not finding any good information about this.

Should this site start again on a new domain
Hi We have not done SEO on this site they have used another company who looks like they outsourced and the links have been built by a third party all blog networks and this company have said they cannot get the links removed. Google flagged artificial links on this web site in February and in April it lost over 10000 visitors in a month and its just free falled ever since. The categories have been recreated and no redirects created due to the amount of backlinks from the blog sites to the original category pages but the site is not recovering its down to 1500 visitors a month and used to get 14000 a month. So should my customer ditch the domain and move this site to fresh domain? http://www.kids-beds-online.com Any answers would really be appreciated. thanks Tracy

Best way to redirect 3 sites to 1 new one.
Hi All We currently have 3 old sites that have tones of content. Due to brand/business consolidation we have merge all 3 to produce 1 website. The new site contains all the old content from the old 3. So, I know I need to 301 redirect all the old content from the previous sites to the equivelent content on the new sites but am confused how you do this with 3 domains? One of the domains is being replaced with the new site. So I have: www.domain1.co.uk www.domain2.co.uk www.domain3.co.uk All the content for all the sites have been imported into a new site and any duplicate content issues havce been resolved. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks
