Website penalised can't find where the problem is. Google went INSANE
-
Hello,
I desperately need a hand here!
Firstly I just want to say that I we never infracted google guidelines as far as we know. I have been around in this field for about 6 years and have had success with many websites on the way relying only in natural SEO and was never penalised until now.
The problem is that our website www.turbosconto.it is and we have no idea why. (not manual)
The web has been online for more than 6 months and it NEVER started to rank. it has about 2 organic visits a day at max.
In this time we got several links from good websites which are related to our topic which actually keep sending us about 50 visits a day. Nevertheless our organic visita are still 1 or 2 a day.
All the pages seem to be heavily penalised ... when you perform a search for any of our "shops"even including our Url, no entries for the domain appear.
A search example: http://www.turbosconto.it zalando
What I will expect to find as a result: http://www.turbosconto.it/buono-sconto-zalando
The same case repeats for all of the pages for the "shops" we promote.
Searching any of the brads + our domain shows no result except from "nike" and "euroclinix" (I see no relationship between these 2)
Some days before for these same type of searches it was showing pages from the domain which we blocked by robots months ago, and which go to 404 error instead of our optimised landing pages which cannot be found in the first 50 results. These pages are generated by our rating system...
We already send requests to de index all theses pages but they keep appearing for every new page that we create. And the real pages nowhere to be found...
Here isan example: http://www.turbosconto.it/shops/codice-promozionale-pimkie/rat
You can see how google indexes that for as in this search: site:www.turbosconto.it rateWhy on earth will google show a page which is blocked by the robots.txt displaying that the content cannot retrieved because it is blocked by the robots instead of showing pages which are totally SEO Friendly and content rich...
All the script from TurboSconto is the same one that we use in our spanish version www.turbocupones.com. With this last one we have awesome results, so it makes things even more weird...
Ok apart from those weird issues with the indexation and the robots, why did a research on out backlinks and we where surprised to fin a few bad links that we never asked for.
Never the less there are just a few and we have many HIGH QUALITY LINKS, which makes it hard to believe that this could be the reason.
Just to be sure we, we used the disavow tool for these links, here are the bad links we submitted 2 days ago:
domain: www.drilldown.it #we did not ask for this
domain: www.indicizza.net #we did not ask for this
domain: urlbook.in #we did not ask for this, moreover is a spammy one
http://inpe.br.way2seo.org/domain-list-878 #we did not ask for this, moreover is a spammy one
http://shady.nu.gomarathi.com/domain-list-789 #we did not ask for this, moreover is a spammy one
http://www.clicdopoclic.it/2013/12/i-migliori-siti-italiani-di-coupon-e.html #we did not ask for this, moreover and is a copy of a post of an other blog http://typo.domain.bi/turbosconto.it
I have no clue what can it be, we have no warning messages in the webmaster tools or anything.
For me it looks as if google has a BUG and went crazy on judging our italian website. Or perhaps we are just missing something ???If anyone could throw some light on this I will be really glad and willing to pay some compensation for the help provided.
THANKS A LOT!

Hi Sebastian,
I was wondering if you have any new things to add to your question or ask over the base of the answers received.
If it is not so, I kindly ask you to eventually flag your answer as "answered".

My Italian isn't that great, but I've gathered it's a coupon site. It just looks like a new site to me. Though the link profile appears to be questionable. Turbocupones.com: 370 backlinks from one domain. That looks like a site wide, or something else.
I would say the best thing he can do is implement a canonical link element.
But also, followed advertising is a one way ticket to penalty town.
-
Just had a quick look and noticed that if you use the following query with the site: operator, you'll get what you expect to see:
site:http://www.turbosconto.it zalando
So I don't think you need to worry that your pages aren't being included in the index. I'm not sure that you're being penalised.
What keywords are your targeting and how strong is the competition? In Google Webmaster Tools, can you see which queries you're getting impression for (but not traffic?). Can you check the strength of the competition for these keywords. Is it just a case that your domain is just too week to get much search visibility?
-
Did you receive any message on Google Webmaster Tools as for a Manual Penalization?
OSE is not showing that many links... but try to check your links with attention.
For instance, I saw that in this site (http://www.solefrutta.it/) the link come from a banner, and that banner should be nofollowed IMHO.
As well you should avoid links from Directories, especially Italian SEO directories, which are - I'm Italian and I know well the Italian landscape - a sure way for being penalized partially or completely (check this: http://www.profdirectory.it/aziende-ecommerce/e-commerce/?order=alphabetic).
Also - just for being sure to check out every potential backlink issues - nofollow the links to the different language sites you have (turbocupones and turbocoupons); in fact, it would not be the first time I see those kind backlinks harming a site due to their site wide nature.
Related to URLs and robots.txt... if a URLs was indexed, even if you block googlebot via robots.txt, that URL will still be present in the index.
If you do a site:turbosconto.it, you will see how Google is not showing every URLs it has in the index, considering that 117 URLs are substantially identical to the ones it has already shown.
The easiest way to de-index something is using the "noindex" meta robots.
A tip: once you have put the noindex in every URL, create a specific sitemaps.xml file with just them, and upload it on GWT. This will make faster the crawl and de-indexation of the URLs you want to quit from the SERPs.
Said all this, I don't know how much useful I was, also because for understanding the reasons of such issues the limited time of a Q&A is not enough.
One thing I am quite sure... when it comes to On Site, Google very rarely does mistakes, and what may seem a strange behavior from its side, it is... but because we caused it.

Why isn't there a browser tab title AND meta title?
Personal opinion; as a user, it makes sense for me to want a full 50+ character meta title which displays in a search engine that helps me determine if I want to click that link AND a concise browser tab title that tells me which page and brand I have open. As a search engine, I would (possibly wrongly) suppose that having one more piece user-facing of information would be helpful in understanding a page and that page's relation to the rest of the website. Theoretical example Meta title: A great title for the website I've been dreaming of! | OurBrand Browser tab title: Home | OurBrand

Website can't break into Google Top100 for main keywords, considering 301 Redirect to a new domain
A little background on our case. Our website, ex: http://ourwebsite.com was officially live in December 2015 but it wasn't On-Site optimized and we haven't done any Off-site SEO to it. In April we decided to do a small redesign and we did it an online development server. Unfortunately, the developers didn't disallow crawlers and the website got indexed while we were developing it on the development server. The development version that got indexed in Google was http://dev.web.com/ourwebsite We learned that it got indexed when we migrated the new redesigned website to the initial domain. When we did the migration we decided to add www and now it looks like: http://www.ourwebsite.com Meanwhile, we deleted the development version from the development server and submitted "Remove outdated content" from the development server's Search Console. This was back in early May. It took about 15-20 days for the development version to get de-indexed and around 30 days for the original website (http://www.ourwebsite.com) to get indexed. Since then we have started our SEO campaign with Press Releases, Outreach to bloggers for Guest and Sponsored Posts etc. The website currently has 55 Backlinks from 44 Referring domains (ahrefs: UR25, DR37) moz DA:6 PA:1 with various anchor text. We are tracking our main keywords and our brand keyword in the SERPs and for our brand keyword we are position #10 in Google, but for the rest of the main (money) keywords we are not in the Top 100 results in Google. It is very frustrating to see no movement in the rankings for the past couple of months and our bosses are demanding rankings and traffic. We are currently exploring the option of using another similar domain of ours and doing a complete 301 Redirect from the original http://www.ourwebsite.com to http://www.ournewebsite.com Does this sound like a good option to you? If we do the 301 Redirect, will the link-juice be passed from the backlinks that we already have from the referring domains to the new domain? Or because the site seems "stuck," would it not pass any power to the new domain? Also, please share any other suggestions that we might use to at least break into the Top 100 results in Google? Thanks.

Website using search term as URL brand name to cheat Google
Google has come a long way over the past 5 years, the quality updates have really helped bring top quality content to the top that is relevant for users search terms, although there is one really ANNOYING thing that still has not been fixed. Websites using brand name as service search term to manipulate Google I have got a real example but I wouldn't like to use it in case the brand mentions flags up in their tools and they spot this post, but take this search for example "Service+Location" You will get 'service+location.com' rank #1 Why? Heaven knows. They have less than 100 backlinks which are of a very low, spammy quality from directories. The content is poor compared to the competition and the competitors have amazing link profiles, great social engagement, much better website user experience and the data does not prove anything. All the competitors are targeting the same search term but yet the worst site is ranking the highest. Why on earth is Google not fixing this issue. This page we are seeing rank #1 do not even deserve to be ranking on the first 5 pages.

Does Google throttle back the search performance of a penalised website/page after the penalty has been removed?
Hi Mozzers. Back in 2013 my website www.octopus-hr.co.uk was hit by a Penguin 2.0 penalty owing to a harmful backlink profile built by a dodgy SEO consultant (now fired). The penalty seemed to apply to the homepage of the site but other pages were unaffected. We got what links we could removed, disavowed the rest and were informed in September 2013 that the penalty had been removed and our re-inclusion request had been successful. However our website homepage still ranks poorly for the search terms we're targeting in the UK: "HR Software" "HR Systems" On page factors are in my opinion pretty well optimised for these search terms. In terms of link building post penalty we've focused on high authority and relevant sites. I believe that compared to most of our search competitors the back link profile to our homepage is in pretty good shape, however it still ranks badly. Has anyone had any experience of a penalty hangover from Google in the past? Are there other things I should consider? Thanks David

Been away for a while is SEO really dead ? I don't think so...
I have been struggling with the google updates but recently we started a new project and by using guest blog posts we were able to achieve a top 3 ranking. It delivered traffic and sales so SEO still works. This is my understanding of the current situation - 1. Generic Keywords (forget it) 2. Go niche and long tail (but thats been the case for a while right) 3. Using related searches 4. Incoming links using brands and a wider range of phrases and urls. 5. Content thats sharable 6. Google plus buttons etc This is my current understanding I would love to hear your thoughts.

Pipe ("|") in my website's title is being replaced with ":" in Google results
Hi , One of the websites I'm promoting and working on is www.pau-brasil.co.il.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Kadel
It's wordpress-based website and as you can see the html's Title is "PauBrasil | some hebrew slogan".
(Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/2f80EEY.gif)
When I'm searching for "PauBrasil" (Which is the brand's name) , one of the results google shows is "PauBrasil: Some Hebrew Slogan" (Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/eJxNHrO.gif ) Why does the pipe is being replaced with ":" ?
And not just that , as you can see there's a "blank space" missing between the the ":" to the slogan.
(note: the websites has been indexed by google crawler at least 4 times so I find it hard to believe it can be the reason) I've keep on looking and found out that there's another page in that website with the exact same title
but when I'm looking for it in google , it shows the title as it really is , with pipe. ("|").
(Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/dtsbZV2.gif) Have you ever encountered something like that?
Can it be that the duplicated title cause that weird "replacement"? Thanks in advance,

Re-Direct Users But Don't Affect Googlebot
This is a fairly technical question... I have a site which has 4 subdomains, all targeting a specific language. The brand owners don't want German users to see the prices on the French sub domain and are forcing users into a re-direct to the relevant subddomain, based on their IP address. If a user comes from a different country, (ie the US) they are forced on the UK sub domain. The client is insistent on keeping control of who sees what (I know that's a debate in it's own right), but these re-directs we're implementing to make that happen, are really making it difficult to get all the subdomains indexed as I think googlebot is also getting re-directed and is failing to do it's job. Is there are a way of re-directing users, but not Googlebot?
