Time Graph for Competitor Rankings
-
Hi,
Where in the MOZ toolbox can I see the links my competitor has on a time graph?
I tried googling it for the last hour, but I must be using the wrong keywords. I am searching for something similar the the functionality of Majestic: http://awesomescreenshot.com/0562febba6
Thanks, Robin

Hi Steffany,
thanks for your reply, indeed I didn't know the competitive link metrics in my campaign yet.
The thing is, that my campaign is very new (same as my website). So I don't have historical link data. But is there a way I can see (on a time graph) when my competitors have started to build links? This would help me to see their pace and effort in a visual way.Best, Robin

Hi,
There are two places you can see this data. If you go into your campaign and under link - competitive metrics, there you will be able to click on what specific metric you want to see. For example if you clicked Domain Authority it will bring up a graph showing you your competitors Domain Authority compared to yours. You can read about it here: http://moz.com/help/guides/links/competitive-metrics
Another way to compare competitors to your site is in Open Site Explorer under the Compare Link Metrics, you can read about OSE here: http://moz.com/help/guides/research-tools/open-site-explorer
Cheers,
Steffany

Drop in rankings following a migration
Hi we have recently migrated our website and while I expected some drop in visibility I didnt expect a huge drop and definitely not a big drop in MozRank and MozTrust. But we went from 4.34 to 3.69 on Domain Rank and 4.42 to 3.85 in MozTrust. That to me looks like a lot. Particularly since I have been building links and it should be going up not down. We dont buy links and really dont employ any black hat link building. Now at the same time our total link profile looks massive. Apparently we have 18k of links. there is no way this is correct. Our competitors all have below 5k. The total links have grown from 13k to 18k in a month as well. Where is this coming from? Is there any way of seeing what these links are? Our visibility went up actually after the launch. Main keyword campaign went from 1.59% to 6.13% then to 7.53% at first. Which made sense since the new site has much better on page optimisation. But now this dropped again to 2.37%. Our competitors visibility is much more stable then that. I know some fluctuations is normal but these fluctuations seem a bit drastic. Are they? We still have a few 404s to sort out and quite a bit of re-directs on the page. But other then having impact on speed this should not influence the rankings so severely. Should it? Before we migrated the site I followed the instruction given by Moz https://moz.com/blog/web-site-migration-guide-tips-for-seos and yet there are all these issues that are popping up. It's disappointing that I made all this effort prior to migrating plus made sure our new page is much better in terms of SEO (I mean I even developed a pagination strategy to get rid of the duplicates!) and it doesnt seem like its paying of. Any help is much appreciated. Id say my SEO understanding is mid range but Im really interested in it and keen on building my skills. And this is really discouraging if Im honest. Please help

Which trumps: spam ranking or domain authority?
I am trying to manage my backlinks by removing ones with high spam links, but I am having trouble drawling the line between helpful/harmful links. One link, for instance, has a span ranking of 7 indicating a 30% chance of penalization from Google crawlers. This same link, however, also boasts a domain authority of 67 which indicates it is also potentially helpful to my own Google crawler success. My question is, which of these scores (spam rank and domain authority) trumps the other? Should I try to get the site owner to remove it? Am I even thinking about this issue correctly? If so, how would you suggest I draw the line in the future? Ben

Competitor analysis, why they rank so much better [ecommerce/Magento]
For a Dutch e-commerce website, we're having some issuse being found & ranked on important keywords. I have done a detailed view into the content & technical part (html) of our website and a competitor's site. Our site is www.hond.nl (hond is the Dutcn noun dog, the best domain we could get)

Competitor: www.obobo.nl (no meaning at all) For searches for instance by dogfood (Dutch: "hondenvoer") we rank really bad while our competitor ranks really well. I've gone trouch the moz-tools intensively but can't figure out why. We got more content, more self-written texts, more incoming root-domain links etc. Any ideas were we could get a solution? Seems that our Splash pages are doing "ok" but especially Category pages are listing badly.0 -
