What's the best way to add phrase keywords to the URL?
-
Hi,
Our keywords are all our service + a list of towns (for example, "carpet cleaning St. Louis"). The issue I'm having is that one particular site could be targeting "carpet cleaning St. Louis", "carpet cleaning Manchester", "carpet cleaning Ballwin", "carpet cleaning Kirkwood", etc. etc. etc... up to maybe 15 different towns.
Is there a way to effectively add these keywords into the URL without making it look spammy?
I'm having the same issue with adding the exact keywords to the page title, img alt tag, etc.
Thanks for any advice/input!

Depending on the client the convention can change. Here are two traditionally used ways to deal with titles
Keywords and phrases - Brand ( seems to be better because the keywords are first)
Brand - Keywords and phrases
or
Keywords - Location - Brand (adding more than one location would probably not work well)
Make the home page you primary location and deeper pages covering other locations. The example you provided does look a bit spammy due to the keyword being present multiple times and different locations being there.
Obviously there isn't a perfect way to do this. So do what makes sense and is considered best practices and then record the results and tweak it as necessary.

Thanks for your help! I agree. I've always focused more on the content and value to the visitor but I've been playing around with the page grader tool and I'm finding that the majority of the pages have a B rating. Obviously, I'd love for all of them to have A's!
How would you suggest changing the page title to add these keywords? I'm concerned again about making it look spammy as well as exceeding the recommended character length. I feel like "Carpet Cleaning St. Louis, Carpet Cleaning Kirkwood, Carpet Cleaning Ballwin - Home" just does not look right... Any thoughts?

Adding the words to the URL doesn't have as much weight as doing the bigger stuff which is the titles, metas, img alts etc. The convention I'm used to is using human friendly URL paths so, www.yoursite.com/carpet-cleaning-st-louis, that way it looks clean and matches your KW/phrases you're tracking. I think the more important item to consider is you creating "value" on your pages so that they aren't considered "thin", which is what Google's panda update was/is targeting.
Hope that helps.

Do old backlinks still help with new URL with 301 redirect? Also I added the www. How does this affect it all?
I changed my URL from exampledetailing. com to exampleautodetailing. com. It is redirected with a 301. Also, it is on Squarespace AND I opted to add the www. So will the old backlinks of exampledetailing. com still help the new URL exampleautodetailing. com or do I need to try and update all the links? Also, future links, do I need to include the www. or just the root domain of exampleautodetailing. com or even the whole https://wwwexampleautodetailing. com? I believe the www is considered a sub domain and a new entity on Google, so I am not sure how that works. Thank you!

Keyword Planner
VERY much a newbie with MOZ Pro (10 days into my 30-day trial), so for that, I apologize. I just want to get an idea of the time needed to accumulate data for keywords, and if I am doing all this right. I'm guessing this...use the tool and enter as many keyword possibilities as I can come up with for my website. Then wait a week or so. Then make a keyword decision. Is this the recommended or best practice? If it makes a difference, my website pertains to a local onsite service that I provide. Any web traffic more than 50 miles of my physical location would be a waste. My 1 on 1 session with Seun was great, but now I need to put it all together and make some traffic happen! Any other ideas, please throw them my way. If I'm completely off-base with this, feel free to send insults! Thanks, Billy

Call Tracking Best Practises for General SEO
Hey folks, So I'm aware of the importance of consistent citations, and the mayhem call tracking numbers have been known to cause in regards to that in that past. So just wanted some up to date clarification on these two things: Local SEO isn't strictly speaking a big deal for us as we supply a software and as such are technically global. I'm presuming consistent citations are still worth aiming for though, and will help increase general authority as well? Let me know if I'm totally wrong about that! What's the best practise set up for call tracking, given that your main NAP number you'd obviously want hardcoded somewhere, alongside showing your dynamic numbers to relevant visitors. Apologies for any ignorance, as always any help and advice is muchos appreciato.

Best Practice for Inserting Keywords into Title Tag?
Hello Fellow Mozers I am looking to open a discussion for my question. I will give an example to clarify things. I have a keyword I want to rank "London Luxury Apartments" Which title would be best or what would you suggest in addition to the titles below: Option A) London Luxury Apartments | Luxury London Apartments | Brand Name Option B) London Luxury Apartments | Luxury Apartments in London | Brand Name Option C) London Luxury Apartments | Luxury Apartments for Sale in London | Brand Name Any other option not displayed above that you have extensively tested and know it works. Have in mind the following : I am aware of the 55 character limit so lets not make this discussion about the character Limit. I want to keep the discussion on the Keyword Format and Keyword Logic of using the same keyword just in a different order. The above is just an example in order to best illustrate what I wish to talk about. Round one... Begin!!
