Back link profile
-
Can anyone be so kind to point to me a great post on % of someones back link profile.
Example % of:
directories
social mentions
press release
etc
So basically an indication of how ideally someones back link profile should look to achieve high rankings!
Thanks

Hi,
Marie is right - we can't provide you with numbers like this. The last time that this was possible was 2009 / 2010 (in my experience). You knew that if a well-ranked website had 1,000 inbound links and 50% of those had commercial anchor text, 5% of which was from a certain type of website, then those were good numbers. Not necessarily to copy, but successful numbers nonetheless and a framework for what was working at the time.
Now, as Marie says, Google is far better at determining what is real and what isn't, so even if you stick to someone else's numbers in terms of where they get their links from, your attempt at copying that may not have the same results because it does not look nearly as natural or high-quality.
I also have to point out that you have mentioned directories and social media: social media links are almost invariably nofollowed, so if you are acquiring them, you should be thinking about these links for other reasons besides SEO. A natural, high quality backlink profile will include social links, so don't forget about them, but they are not technically a source of inbound followed links anymore (for the most part).
Directories are often low-quality / spammy and often require payment for inclusion. I would only have a site listed in a directory if I was doing it for other reasons than SEO nowadays too.

I personally don't think that it's that simple anymore. I think that there was a time when you could game Google by trying to make your backlink profile look natural when really it wasn't. Google has a whole team of incredibly smart engineers who are doing everything they can so that they can determine which links truly ARE natural and only count those, and, if you've got enough self made links then penalizing you algorithmically for those links.
There are still some people out there who are quite good at doing things to make it look like their site is more worthy of ranking than it should be. But, as Google gets smarter and smarter, eventually the only answer is to have a site that actually is worthy of ranking well.

Thanks Kevin
I have read the article & its very helpful.
Are their any studies on what % you should have links comig from.
Example 10% social
5% directories
Etc etc?

Here is an article on it: http://www.ranksolid.com/seo/link-diversity.php
As you probably know, make sure your links are natural. I have seen sites heavily saturated w/one type of inbound link type rank very high and diverse link profiles, not so much. It all depends on the quality of the links--not necessarily where they are coming from (ie-press releases, directories, social mentions & etc.).

Inbound Links not showing. Links are not no follow
Over the past several months I have definitely received inbound links to my website ( none of which are no follow). I have HubSpot as well s Moz and none of the links are showing. My competitors with the same link sources are showing though. I am completely dumbfounded. Why are my inbound links not showing and how much time does it take for them to show if they show at all? Thank you!

Link removal
We were hit by penguin and have been going through the process of removing bad links. Things were looking up but then wasa 20% jump in our bad links. They all seem to be related. There are over 100 different domains that all seem to go back to mbiz. examples include http://www.5stone.com.cn/Literature-holders-.html http://www.building-stone.com/Display-furniture.html http://www.china-tombstone.com/Display-exhibition-products-.html It looks like they have automatically gathered data from google to create these pages. I would hope that the guys at Google are clever enough to be aware of these sorts of links. But if not I need to get them removed. I have tried whois but I cant find out how to contact these guys. Has anyone got any bright ideas? Thanks

Link in Disqus profile
Hey guys, could you help me with the following issue. When I leave a comment via Disqus, it adds my url as plain text to the code of the page I left my comment on. At the same time, a backlink to my site is in my Disqus profile (once you click on the user name in your comment) So, my question is if Google will consider such a backlink as a legit link to my site and if it makes general sense for SEO to leave Disqus comments?

A link with "return false"- OSE sees as a No Followed Link
Hello, I couldn't find a clear answer to the impact on SEO for a link written in this way: [" class="expert_info" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">](w</span>ww.yourwebsite.com<span style=) [Does the "return false" act as a "no follow"? I came across this in our link data in Open Site Explorer which lists these links all as "no follows." However, an engineer I spoke to said that it shouldn't impact search engine behavior. Any ideas? Thank you in advance! -Sarah K.](w</span>ww.yourwebsite.com<span style=)

Link Pharming
My company has been using an SEO company for a while and have built up our pagerank to a 6. However, we have noticed that they're involved in link pharming - they're buildng extra websites and linking to our site on them. We are not happy with this as we know it will only be a matter of time before Penguin hits us. The contract with the SEO company is coming up for renewal soon and we're thinking of cancelling it. However, we are not sure if the company will delete all our backlinks, which will probably decrease our PageRank too. Has anyone here ever had a similar experience? What did the SEO company do when you cancelled the contract? Does anyone here work for an SEO company and what do you do when someone cancels your service?

Penguin Recover: Remove links vs Burry Links
The best is to do both. However with those with limited resources, would building more links with branded and naked URL anchor links be a better solution than painstakingly asking every webmaster to remove links.

Looking at Page Authority of a link to our website... what Page Authority number should we use in deciding the link is junk?
What are the Page Authority ranges? 1. Excellent link 2. Moderate 3. Total junk link Of course you look at the anchor text you can use, how many links are on the site, how often it is cached. Thoughts?
