4xx fix
-
Hi
I have quite a lot of 4xx errors on our site. The 4xx occurred because I cleaned poor URLs that had commas etc in them so its the old URLs that now 4xx. There are no links to the URLs that 4xx.What is the best way of rectifying this issue of my own making?!
Thanks

OK, thanks Dean. I'll update the sitemap and look into rectifying the errors identified by screamingfrog.
Thanks for your assistance!
-
No, I would recommend that you fix the underlying issue. I can see from your sitemap that you still have the URL's with commas in.
Personally I would use screamingfrog.co.uk to find your crawl errors as you will not need to wait a week for the next report.
-
I was waiting for the next crawl as I thought the 4xx would be removed from the crawl diagnostics, however I received a new crawl report today and they are still listed in the report.
I think the simplest way to remove the 4xx would be to create 301s for the URLs. Would you agree? -
So since you tidied the URL's has moz crawled your site again or are you waiting for the next crawl?
-
Where are you seeing the errors being reported? If you have corrected the problem with the error URL's and there are no links to theses URL's then there should not be a problem.
If however you are seeing theses URL's in the search results then yes a 301 redirect would be appropriate.

Search Console - Should I request to index redirected URL or Mark as fixed?
Hi all, Many blog posts used to be showing 404s when doing crawl tests and in search console (despite being there when visited.) I realized it was an issue with URL structure. It used to be example.com/post-name I've fixed the issue by changing the URL structure in Wordpress so that they now follow the structure of example.com/post-type/post-name According to sitemaps, Google has now indexed all posts in /post-type/post-name. My question is what to do with crawl errors in Search Console that are still there for example.com/postname. When I fetch, I get a redirect status (which is accurate). At this point should I request to index or mark as fixed? Thank you!

GWT Soft 404 count is climbing. Important to fix?
In GWT I am seeing my mobile site's soft 404 count slowly rise from 5 two weeks ago to over 100 as of today. If I do nothing I expect it will continue to rise into the thousands. This is due to there being followed links on external sites to thousands of discontinued products we used to offer. The landing page for these links simply says the product is no longer available and gives links to related areas of our site. I know I can address this by returning a 404 for these pages, but doing so will cause these pages to be de-indexed. Since these pages still have utility in redirecting people to related, available products, I want these pages to stay in the index and so I don't want to return a 404. Another way of addressing this is to add more useful content to these pages so that Google no longer classifies them as soft 404. I have images and written content for these pages that I'm not showing right now, but I could show if necessary. But before investing any time in addressing these soft 404s, does anyone know the real consequences of not addressing them? Right now I'm getting 275k pages indexed and historically crawl budget has not been an issue on my site, nor have I seen any anomalous crawl activity since the climb in soft 404s began. Unchecked, the soft 404s could climb to 20,000ish. I'm wondering if I should start expecting effects on the crawl, and also if domain authority takes a hit when there are that many soft 404s being reported. Any information is appreciated.

4xx error - but no broken links founded by Xenu
In my SeoMoz crawl report I get multiple 4XX errors reported and they are all on the same type of links. www.zylom.com/nl/help/contact/9/ and differiate between the number at the end and the language. But I i look in the source code we nice said: <a class="<a class="attribute-value">bigbuttonblue</a>" style="<a class="attribute-value">float:right; margin-left:10px;</a>" href="[/nl/help/contact/9/?sid=9&e=login](view-source:http://www.zylom.com/nl/help/contact/9/?sid=9&e=login)" onfocus="<a class="attribute-value">blur()</a>" title="<a class="attribute-value">contact</a>"> contact a> I already tested the little helpfull tool Xenu, but this also doesn't give any broken links for the url's which I found in the 4xx error report. Could somebody give me a suggestion Why these 4xx errors keep coming? Could it be that the SeoMoz crawlers break the part ?sid=9&e=login' from the URL. Because if you want to enter the link, you first get a pop-up to fill in a login screen. Thanks for you answers already

132 pages reported as having Duplicate Page Content but I'm not sure where to go to fix the problems?
I am seeing “Duplicate Page Content” coming up in our
Technical SEO | | danatanseo
reports on SEOMOZ.org Here’s an example: http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/product/williams-sound-ppa-r35-e http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/product/aphex-230-master-voice-channel-processor http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/product/AT-AE4100.prod These three pages are for completely unrelated products.
They are returning “200” status codes, but are being identified as having
duplicate page content. It appears these are all going to the home page, but it’s
an odd version of the home page because there’s no title. I would understand if these pages 301-redirected to the home page if they were obsolete products, but it's not a 301-redirect. The referring page is
listed as: http://www.ccisolutions.com/StoreFront/category/cd-duplicators None of the 3 links in question appear anywhere on that page. It's puzzling. We have 132 of these. Can anyone help me figure out
why this is happening and how best to fix it? Thanks!0 -

Google doesn't rank the best page of our content for keywords. How to fix that?
Hello, We have a strange issue, which I think is due to legacy. Generally, we are a job board for students in France: http://jobetudiant.net (jobetudiant == studentjob in french) We rank quite well (2nd or 3rd) on "Job etudiant <city>", with the right page (the one that lists all job offers in that city). So this is great.</city> Now, for some reason, Google systematically puts another of our pages in front of that: the page that lists the jobs offers in the 'region' of that city. For example, check this page. the first link is a competitor, the 3rd is the "right" link (the job offers in annecy), but the 2nd link is the list of jobs in Haute Savoie (which is the 'departement'- equiv. to county) in which Annecy is... that's annoying. Is there a way to indicate Google that the 3rd page makes more sense for this search? Thanks

Fixing Missing MetaTag Errors
Hey all, I just had a crawl test done on my site(created using wordpress) and I received a ton of missing meta tag descriptions to fix. The odd thing is though I use "All in One" SEO Tool and the actual pages or posts on the site do have meta tag descriptions, however I noticed for every post an RSS Feed is being automatically generated and this Feed is the link missing the meta tag descriptions. Most of the errors display "Comments on" with a /feed in the end of the url. I am totally clueless on how to resolve these errors as I havent installed any WP plugins that generate feeds automatically. Has anyone encountered this problem before or know how to fix this?? The site url is http:// GovernmentGrantsAustralia . org I have left spaces above to avoid being a link dropper 🙂 Would really appreciate if anyone can help! FYI: I just found this link after digging through all the Q&A history, however I tried it and am not sure if it has worked as I still see the errors on my SEOmoz report. The link is:
