Duplicate Issue
-
Hello Mozzers!
We have a client going through a website revamp. The client is The Michelangelo Hotel, and they are part of Star Hotels. Star Hotels plans to create a section on their site for The Michelangelo, as opposed to maintaining a stand alone site. They will then take the michelangelohotel.com domain, and point it to the corresponding pages on the Star site. The guest will key in www.michelangelohotel.com, and will see the same content that can be found on www.starhotel.com/en/michelangelo-hotel-new-york.
The problem we have is this: Essentially the same content will be indexed twice, once on starhotels.com and once on michelangelohotel.com. This would seem to cause a duplicate content issue.
What are your thoughts?
Edit: I apologize, because I was not nearly clear enough here. The Star Hotels site will have 5 pages dedicated to The Michelangelo Hotel. The content will sit solely on that server as those 5 pages. Those 5 pages will each be indexed as 2 URLs.
www.michelangelohotel.com <-> www.starhotels.com/en/michelangelo/
www.michelangelohotel.com/accommodations <-> www.starhotels.com/en/michelangelo/accommodations
And so on.
Thanks!

If for some reason you don't want to redirect www.michelangelohotel.com then you can just add a meta robots tag in the header of every page that looks like this:
Although you said that they would point www.michelangelohotel.com to www.starhotel.com/en/michelangelo-hotel-new-york which would generally means that it is being redirected so anyone that types in www.michelangelohotel.com will end up at www.starhotel.com/en/michelangelo-hotel-new-york

If www.michelangelohotel.com will be pointed to www.starhotels.com/hotels/michelangelo/ then all you need to do is use a 301 redirect via the www.michelangelohotel.com htaccess file.
For example to redirect the location page:
Redirect 301 /en/location.aspx http://www.starhotels.com/hotels/michelangelo/en/location.aspx
Do the same for all pages on michelangelohotel.comThis is assuming that you no longer want www.michelangelohotel.com as a separate site as you have suggested. Anyone visiting the www.michelangelohotel.com directly or via a link will be redirected to the correct page on www.starhotels.com. The 301 also tells search eninges that the page has moved.

Duplicate content? - Ecommerce reviews loading the same products on every page
Hello there! I use a plugin on my ecom site that shows customer reviews - not product reviews but general shopping experience reviews. The plugin also loads links and short descriptions of products those customers bought. Having installed it site-wide, on every page there are short descriptions of the same products. Of course, as people leave new reviews the content changes (but it doesn't happen very often). So the question is: Is having links and short descriptions of the same products on every page harmful for SEO in this case? I'd be grateful for any insight into this matter.

Duplicate content? other issues? using vendor info when selling their prodcuts?
When building content for vendors that we sell their products? best practices? ok, to copy and paste "about us" info? or will that be flagged as duplicate content.

Index or No Index (Panda Issue)
Hi, I believe our website has been penalized by the panda update. We have over 9000 pages and we are currently indexing around 4,000 of those pages. I believe that more than half of the pages indexes have either thin content. Should we stop indexing those pages until we have quality page content? That will leave us with very few pages being indexed by Google (Roughly 1,000 of our 9,000 pages have quality content). I am worried that we would hurt our organic traffic more by not indexing the pages than by indexing the pages for google to read. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim Rodriguez

Is there anything wrong with having duplicate description tags if they are relevant to their pages?
I have duplicate description tags, but they make sense for the pages they're on. Is there anything wrong with this? Thanks for reading!

Issue with old sitemap
Hi Quite new to SeoMoz so some learning curve but we have one issue on a site perhaps someone can advise on? We have many duplicate page titles / content, we think this was due to a corrupt sitemap.xml file, all of the URL's look like this with an odd page at the end http://www.totalpetsupplies.co.uk/problem.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/animals/Cat_Accessories_Pet_Collars/privacy.aspx So that XML map was removed well over a week ago, the new sitemap is an apsx generated one to get all pages correctly show as www.totalpetsuppies.co.uk/sitemap.aspx. Goolge and Bing have that. SeoMoz re did our site and the errors went up a bit!! Not sure how that process works, anyone any suggestions? Cheers Shaun

Duplicate Links
Hello, I am entering sitewide navigation that will go to primary seo pages. This is really for usability, not for link juice. I'm wondering if I should still link to these very important pages in my index page's content. Or if I should consider those navigation links strong enough. If I did link in the content, then I would have more than one link to the same page on my home page. Thanks Tyler
