How updating a post can influence seo
-
I have just read this great post from moz blog: http://moz.com/blog/google-fresh-factor
But I haven't found nothing about updating post date.
If I edit an old great post (now ranked 2nd after several months in 1st serp position) does it be better if I also update the date of the post in the wordpress post edit page?
Thank you very much and sorry for my poor english.
Bye,
Dario.

Thank u alan! I'm again at the first position by adding 20% more text with keywords and writing "Updated at 2014"

ForForce is spot on.
Trust is a critical factor. Instead of artificially manipulating the post date, be sure the "date last updated" is accurately working.
And if you DO make a value-add update to a post, add a sentence to the top of the post like "Update: ________" and maybe even put "Updated" with the date right in the page Title or meta Description.
Anything else would be playing with fire.

For google rankings it's going to depend more on the update than the post-date.
For example, if you have a 10 paragraph post, and you add 1 paragraph and change the post date, I doubt you would regain the 1st position.
If you add 5 new paragraphs that add more detail or broader coverage to the subject and change the post date, you have a pretty good chance.
In both cases, you are not likely to get any kind of penalty for changing the post date.
On the other hand.... If you make a habit of REGULARLY updating post dates without providing any new value to the reader, then google will see this RECURRING behavior as spammy, and you'd probably end up on page 2 instead of position 2.
For the best ranking results I'd suggest you aim to update the article with a minimum of 20% new valuable content and update the post date. Possibly stick the word 'Updated: ' before the original title of the post as well.

Filter By Category bad for seo?
Hello Everyone! I know that a single product should not have filter by color option since it will create duplicate content, and you have to use canonical tags to solve it. BUT how about sorting through products via category/brands?
On-Page Optimization | | Safxmed
Filter by category changes the URL of the General shop page (ex: hello.com/Shop/Category1022039 ). This page only displays the products within, no content/ descriptions etc unlike the original category page (ORIGINAL CATEGORY PAGE) Each of these category/brand already have their own individual pages (ex: hello.com/Shop/A). This is the page that will be optimized for content, FAQ, and ranking etc. Unlike in the url created when filtering through the categories. So technically I would have 2 URL for each Brand/Category. Would they compete with each other? What would you guys suggest. Please advise me on this. Thank You0 -

Is there a tool that I can use to scrape and see metatags?
Looking for a tool that allows me to scrape the websites off a page listing of Google and output a spreadsheet with the websites and their related meta-tag details (mainly title tag). Is there a tool out there that can conveniently allow me to do this?

Infinite scroll SEO
I was curious about the implications of Infinite scroll homepages on SEO, and more specifically, no-indexing subpages of the homepage (ie www.homepage.com/page/2/ ). I know its often a good practice to noindex subpages of archives, but in this case, would it be a bad idea? Thanks!

Pages or Blog posts?
Hi, I am currently building content for a customer's website. There are approximately 50 new content pages I am building about the business, products they serve, how-tos and tips and advice. The website is built on Wordpress so my question is would it be best to post this content as a different blog posts or as separate pages in Wordpress and link them up to a 'hub page' as mentioned on this post about How to rank (point 16) Thanks for any advice.

Modal Windows SEO
The new company site is almost finished, and I've just learned that instead of the home page linking to a few internal pages (it's a tiny site), they are just using modal windows instead of deeper pages. Is that bad for SEO and what can I do to optimize with this setup?
