How to optimise a page for a regional search without it looking clumsy?
-
What's is the best way to go about optimising a page for a regional search phrase. E.g. 'Physiotherapy CITY' and keep the text looking natural and not manipulated?
Previously I've added the search phrase 'Physiotherapy CITY' to TITLE and H1 but this can look clumsy when used in the H1 tag.
If I grade a page using MOZ on-page optimisation it will suggest I add the search phrase to the H1.
What the recommended way of doing regional on-page optimisation?

Thank you Miriam. Yes those posts did help and have set me straight on H1 tags.

I've had two quite different comments on this and I think the key bit is your point about bots not caring so much about H1 tag. How much don't they care? I thought H1 and TITLE still were of high importance. If my goal is to get best rank for a client and MOZ page optimiser gives me a better grade with an exact keyword H1, I'm feeling more inclined to go with it and as David-Kley says above...
"If people are looking for PLACE, in CITY, and the first thing they see when they hit the page is PLACE serving CITY, state...might be that they say "This is just what I was looking for""
Well this does make good sense. I search for something and the website instantly tells me I've found what I was looking for.
So I've actually decided to go with "Boston Physiotherapy" although I do think a more sales and customer focused H1 would look less manipulated. It's a difficult one.

Hi Benners,
Good question. The H1 tag is majorly important to customers and much less so to bots, so I would always recommend going with natural language over strictly optimized language. In other words, I would recommend:
Receive Compassionate Physiotherapy in Our Relaxing Boston Office
as opposed to
Physiotherapy Boston Is Our Specialty ... or something like that.
Sometimes, you can strike a balance between the two, though, along the lines of:
For Caring Physiotherapy, Boston Patients Have A Compassionate Option Here at GreenTree
I would advise taking this approach not just with onpage tags, but also with title tags, too, due to their prominence in the SERPs. My bias is definitely toward natural in everything:)

If the majority of your page and back end seo is optimized around the subject and the area, I doubt changing the header tag to look more natural would hurt your seo. I understand what you mean, as we have done local pages for the majority of our clients. It is difficult to make it not appear to be what it is: a page designed around ranking for a local area.
On a sidenote, this may not be such a bad thing. If people are looking for PLACE, in CITY, and the first thing they see when they hit the page is PLACE serving CITY, state...might be that they say "This is just what I was looking for"
As an seo, its hard for us to understand what a consumer expects to see when they get to a webpage since we are so involved in the process of making it. I dont think most consumers don't look into it that far, and simply see a page on a site that offers what they searched for. This could change based upon your target audience, and intelligence level.
The MOZ tools are just that, tools. They offer a way for people to see basic optimization tips for ways their site can be improved. Don't take everything they say to heart, since they are just a guideline. We have pages that are a perfect A+ super 100% in MOZ tools that dont rank on page one. For more advanced seo practices, you could potentially hurt your ranking by changing certain things, based upon what you said your target keywords were.

Duplicate page content
These two URLs are being flagged as 98% similar in the code. We're a large ecommerce site, and while it would be ideal to have unique product descriptions on each page we currently don't have the bandwith. Thoughts on what else might be triggering this duplicate content? https://www.etundra.com/restaurant-parts/cooking-equipment-parts/fryers/scoops-skimmers/fmp-175-1081-fryer-crumb-scoop/ https://www.etundra.com/restaurant-equipment/concession-equipment/condiment-pumps/tablecraft-664-wide-mouth-condiment-pump/ Thanks, Natalie

Duplicated page titles
Dear friends, We have a problem which occurs on our page with duplicated page titles. Landlords are posting rooms on our page and most of them are giving the same name to the rooms and after that, we are getting more and more duplicated page titles. We are applying random whit this title tag: Accommodation for students in {city.name}: {name}. English title

Certified student rooms in {city.name}: {name} English title
Erasmus room for students in {city.name} | {name} English title
Student room in {city.name}: {name} English title Also our title tag is sometimes to long but there is no possibility to make them shorter. I think. If anyone would have some idea be free to comment and help us. Kind regards Miško Macolić Tomičić0 -
Page Layout Updates and Mobile Pages with Ads
I have been trying to do some research on the Page Layout Algorithm and Top Heavy Ads and much of what I read does not mention about mobile pages as apposed to desktop. I am curious if the Page Layout updates can be effected by mobile pages as well and if there is any good articles on this subject. Also is this Algorithm been incorporated into its regular algorithm or do we still have to wait for refreshes to see the impact? Cesar

Noindex child pages (whose content is included on parent pages)?
I'm sorry if there have been questions close to this before... I've using WordPress less like a blogging platform and more like a CMS for years now... For content management purposes we organize a lot of content around Parent/Child page (and custom-post-type) relationships; the Child pages are included as tabbed content on the Parent page. Should I be noindexing these child pages, since their content is already on the site, in full, on their Parent pages (ie. duplicate content)? Or does it not matter, since the crawlers may not go to all of the tabbed content? None of the pages have shown up in Moz's "High Priority Issues" as duplicate content but it still seems like I'm making the Parent pages suffer needlessly... Anything obvious I'm not taking into consideration? By the by, this is my first post here @ Moz, which I'm loving; this site and the forums are such a great resource! Anyways, thanks in advance!

Home page or landing page?
Hello, I want to ask a question related to that - Should we put keywords in the home page title if we wish to position another landing page better for particular keywords? I have read in one website about SEO that it's good the main keywords of your website to be positioned in homepage title also. f.e. Let's say we have website about web-design and our company is named Company Ltd. The title of the home page is "Company Ltd. - Web design, SEO, etc" We have also another inner page named "Web design | Company Ltd.". So should we leave the first page name only "Company Ltd." and the landing page's name "Web design | Company Ltd." . I don't know if they both have the same keyword in their title they won't compete with each other.

Thin content and tabs on page
I am reviewing a site, and the web designer used tabs to impart information. I think the tabs idea looks great, but it leaves the page looking thin. Here is a link to a product page, could anyone chime in please? http://www.aireindustrial.net/spill-berms/foam-berm-drive-over-berms.asp Thanks in advance for your opinion!
