One-Pager and SEO
-
We're building a page that is going to feature over 31 people as difference makers in their field. We're unveiling one a day for an entire month. The very early mockup of the page has name, pic, some bio info, and a link to open up a new window with the full bio. I would love to have all of the bio content for all of the people on the page (and indexable), but I'm not sure how to do that while still being able to hide the full bios until they are expanded. Anybody have any tips that are SEO-friendly and/or examples of a page that is built like this and ranks well.
Thanks!

To throw some more info out there on this one. My guy just sent me a link (see attachment) to a Matt Cutts video where he explains that if you're doing this sort of design with normal web design practices, Google will not penalize the hidden text as spammy. We're currently using Display: None tag, which isn't mentioned specifically, but we think should be alright according to Matt's video. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Thanks Jarno. I'll ask my guy if he's doing the HTML/CSS thing. His first attempt was using code to hide the text until someone clicked the link (tab) to reveal. I'm afraid that Google wouldn't want to index or couldn't index that content.
I'll tell him that Jarno thinks it's possible to use HTML and CSS to create the user experience I'm looking for but also to have all the text crawlable. Thanks!

Thanks Travis. We're building the page on an existing site, so there's no Wordpress, but the concept is sound. If we can't make it work where all the content on the page gets indexed, because Google doesn't like the way we're presenting the information, then we might go to something like this.

Hi there Spackly,
I'm guessing what you are getting at is using tabs (like specifications to products in webshops that are only shown when clicked on), right?
If that is the case you could show a picture with some info per person with a link to more info (the tab) that expends the information about the person. If you do this using HTML and CSS (or PHP with CSS) you could have it made like so that when you visit the source of the page you get then entire code including all the full bio's but when you visit the site in a browser like a normal visitor you would only see 31 small bios with 31 tabs for more information.
This is something you see in a lot of shops at the moment and I must admit that it works like a charm.
Hope this helps you some.
Regards

This may not be exactly what you had in mind, but why not handle it like any typical WordPress blog installation?
Just show a preview snippet with a link to the full profile. You would avoid duplicate content. You could have what you want in effect.
If it was my deal, I would go with a static home page that explains what the whole thing is about. There would be navigation to the Difference Makers. That would essentially be your post type where you showed a snippet of the profile that leads to a post that displays the profile.
If there's an actual blog in there for some reason, you could likely handle either or with a custom post type.
But if you don't like the static home page idea, I suppose you may be able to get away with a preview that links to an actual post/bios on the home page.
I would be interested to see what anyone else thinks. (Not sarcasm, really want to see what others think about it.)

# Tag - opacity and SEO impact
Hello,

I have a query animation 'fade-in-up' on my website: tiffanybarnard.com which moves the H1 tag slightly and fades it in from zero opacity to 1. Will this affect the SEO value of the H1 tag?

Transferring a site to wordpress and its effect on SEO
I have a site that is hosted on a very old platform and would like to move it to WordPress. We are a surf shop and the summer months are the busiest for us. I want like to make sure that if I transfer my site that it won't hurt our rankings in any way. What would the best way of doing this be? i.e start building the WordPress site and once it is finished, point the domain to it? Will this have any ramifications for our rank? Thank you!

Am I doing SEO test properly?
Hello, I just created a page for researching the impact of social signals on Google ranking (in Italy). Page was not optimized (one internal backlink, no other external/internal links, keyword repeated 4 or 5 + h1 h2, no alt tags), and only social signals are being stimulated (through votes). The domain is 2 months old and is already positioned for few relevant keywords, but from 2 page down. My question is: am I doing right? Is this a good way to proceed? And if not, what I should do instead? Thank you for an advice. Eugenio

More than one web domain
Hi What is best when considering using more than one domain on a website, what the best policy ? it's a question I get asked a lot, usually because prior to any seo efforts the main domain name purchased is not keyword rich or an abbreviated company name etc. what impact do new domains have on SEO compared to older existing domains- is it worth changing a generic company named domain for a keyword rich domain? if having multiple domains pointing to the site is beneficial how best is it to configure? How do i inform Google? How do both domains get index when there is only one physical site? How should i monitor it, Analytic s, SEO moz? Will the domain compete against each other and effect SEO rank? Are they best used for marketing purposes on external sites, adverts driving traffic to the main site. I'm aware there are lots of questions above, any answers/ opinions , links to further info would be greatly appreciated. cheers

Title elements too long - good for SEO?
As I was reviewing a client's web pages I noticed that most of the pages have titles that exceed the 70 characters limit. By looking in more details it seems that Google uses all keywords from this long titles. I wanted to reduce the titles under 70 characters but realised that I may cut some important keywords. By reducing to 70 characters, do you think I can damage the performance?.

URL content format - Any impact on SEO
I understand that there is a suggested maximum length for a URL so as not to be penalized by search engines. I'm wondering if I should if should optimize our ecommerce categories to be descriptive or use abbreviations to help keep the URL length to a minimum? Our products are segmented into many categories, so many products URL's are pretty long if we go the descriptive route. I've also heard that removing the category component entirely from a product URL can also be considered. I'm fairly new to all this SEO stuff, so I'm hoping the community can share their knowledge on the impact of these options. Cheers, Steve

Seo template for new website
I am revamping my website (www.UltimateBasicTraining.com). It's going to be major and I am concerned about the potential traffic loss since over 60% of my overall traffic comes from organic search results in the military basic training area. Are there any good SEO website templates I can start from? I see a lot out there but would prefer the advice of professionals. Thanks
