Lots of 404s listed in Top Pages by Page Authority
-
Hi guys,
I'm slowly getting to grips with all the aspects of using Moz.
Looking at my link analysis, under the tab labelled Top Pages by Page Authority, there's an awful lot of 404 pages listed. Are these pages which are being linked to (either internally or externally), and should I put a 301 redirect on all the pages listed?I've attached a picture...

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I don't see a better place to put this.
I am looking at the same report - I have a ton of 404's on the list, however I have implemented 301 redirects already. Will this list update as the 301's get indexed? Is it possible to have this list reflect the new pages that the 301's point to? As it sits right now, the "Top pages by Authority" report is useless as it's showing me old pages that no longer exist.
Thanks in advance for your answer.
Chad

Thanks for your reply Joe, very helpful.
now it's pointed out to me, it's obvious there's nothing pointing at the pages listed.
I'm wondering how these URLs are even being picked up though. Looking at the structure (/shop/article), they're possibly from an old version of our online shop... so mostly the products still exist, just not on those URLs. It might be worth putting a stack of 301 redirects in place of those 404s, or it might be a complete waste of time... II'm sure your blog post will help me decide. Thanks Again.
(edit)... yeah i reckon I'll 301 all those pages on which the products still exist... seems to make sense.
But I'd still like to understand where these URLs are being picked up... if they're not on our website and not found in In-Bound Links, where are they being found or generated???

That second column titled LRD's means "Linking Root Domains" so from what I can see from your screenshot, you have 0 external links to each of those pages. I'm not sure off the top of my head but I think if you click that 'Export CSV' button in the top right it gives you much more information including internal links. If that one doesn't, then exporting a Moz crawl report will give you what you need.
In general, if your 404 pages are gone and are not of much use, it's ok to let them 404. See the Not Found section of this post http://moz.com/blog/how-to-fix-crawl-errors-in-google-webmaster-tools and read the two other links in that section for more info.

Unable to get into top 20 even when pages are optimized and most crawl issues resolved
I have a few keyword phrases I've been trying to rank in the top 20 for (starting place). I have optimized for a few different phrases, ranging in keyword difficulty, but no matter what I do I can't seem to get in. In many cases, the exact same results show up for many different variations of the phrases I'd like to rank for. I've read about how google tries to match user intent and so if it decides those results are more relevant then it will always show them, but does that mean that no matter what I do I will always be behind them? The main question I have is: how should I proceed? Should I stop optimizing pages and focus on link acquisition? Or go through and make sure there isn't a single crawl issue? Or focus on optimizing for longer tail keyword phrases? It just feels like I've done so much of what the moz tools have recommended and I'm seeing very little movement over the past couple of months, if anything I see dips in performance after optimization. Thanks in advance!

Keyword stuffing - on page grader count
I used the on page grader for my homepage, www.cprnj.com, and it said the keyword "physical therapy" was used 26 times in the body of the page. But I can't find more than 4. How exactly is keyword stuffing accounted for, and is there some place that I am not seeing the keywords?

Help me to know why are all pages not being tracked by the Moz tool for on-page optimization reports?
The On-page Optimization report that the Moz tool shows, is not tracking all the pages from my website. I know this because it isn't showing a ranking for all pages on my website. Is there a particular reason why this is happening? It is important for me to know details of all pages, else it does not give me a comprehensive picture of what's going on in SEO.

Transfering Page Authority
Hi, I have recently change my url architecture with site redesign and was just doing some analysis of the old and new pages. I seem to be losing a little bit of Organic Search because of it. As an example this old diving page in open site explorer shows a Page Authority of 46 whilst the new diving page shows a Page Authority of 22. I have a 301 redirect going from the old page to the new, but that seems to be quite a drop in Page Authority. Is there anything else I can be doing to improve upon it? Thanks, Adam
