How can Ahrefs be better than OSE ?
-
Dear Sirs and Contributors, I know this question is going to cause revolution, but I am paying for a subscription to moz every single month and I see that Open Site Explorer doesn't find baacklinks for some of my new clients when aHrefs can find more than 16 !! Why is this ?
How can a free tool like ahrefs give me more information than OSE for which I pay for ? ;-(

Thanks Chris !

The thing I always think of in the back of my head is even if the tools don't see it I bet Google does and that is the main thing so as long as you know about the links you can make a note internally and work out and benefit from there.

Thanks, perhaps I was a bit angry this morning. I don't regret paying moz every month because I have other tools, but I can't see why after two months of existence and at least 20 good incoming links, the fre version of aHrefs points them out and Moz OSE doesn't ! Thanks again to all of you who answered !

As mentioned each software has pros & cons though you only get a limited amount of links to view in the free versions, You can also use OSE as a free option but don't forget all the other goodies you would be missing that Moz offers that Majestic and Ahrefs do not have (perks, products etc.).
Each of them uses a different robot to crawl the internet and some are faster than others which is why they bring up more (they also have more resources) Ahref's is a bit more expensive for what you get compared to its competitors but it come down to preference etc. I'd recommend using the best from each if you can.
in short - like Ahref OSE also has a free option but OSE for the money gives you a lot more options (Moz analytics) Ahrefs just has more power and faster bots but this doesn't make it better just different. Check out Leonie Kramer's link for a great comparison.
Hope it helps.

Hi Christian,
Every single tool has it's own index and indexing procedure. Some have a better link discovery than others. This specifically doesn't mean that a tool in general is better than the other one.
Before paying for any tool, I believe you should make a research for what are you going to use that specific tool.
It might be, that ahrefs, majestic have better link discovery, but Moz is better on the on-site issue discovery... and it helps you resolve that issue quite fast.
If you would like to know more about how OSE link discovery works, you can read more about it in Moz's help hub: http://moz.com/help/guides/research-tools/open-site-explorer (check the FAQ also).
I hope this clears up some questions you had.
Gr., Keszi

Hi, here is an article comparing Ahrefs vs OSE vs Majestics. All tools have differences. And for good linkbuilding i think you need more than just one tool. http://www.seobook.com/comparing-backlink-data-providers
When you're using the free version of Ahrefs, try the paid one, you'll get so much more info, it's realy worth to try. And i think (not sure) OSE is for free, you pay for MOZ Analytics. But non payers can use OSE, correct me if i'm wrong.
Grtz, Leonie

How can I get links indexed in Just Discovered Links, or Open site Explorer? (Because it aint Bit.ly or Feedly!)
Dear Moz & Forum, I've been on a bit of a merry-go-round with one of my clients. He knows enough about SEO to ask questions, and one thing he likes is to see the links that we are building inside Open Site Explorer. Now, of course we know that it takes a while for links to show, but that was ok, because we could just plug the links that we've built into a bit.ly link and then they'd show under Just Discovered Links in Open Site Explorer, and then boom, we're happy. It stopped working some time ago, and after the support team were a little unstuck I sent a hopeful tweet to @randfish. Here is the response: https://twitter.com/randfish/status/788412272129347584 The advice to use Bit.Ly was removed swiftly after this! Oops! The current Guidance is here: https://moz.com/help/guides/research-tools/open-site-explorer/justdiscovered It says: Want to see your new link in the Just-Discovered Links tab? An easy way to start seeing your link in the Just-Discovered section is to have it shared on Twitter and available on Feedly link. Feedly stopped supporting their own link shortner a few years ago. Also, when you share a link from Feedly on twitter it is just the same as sharing a normal tweet, because it shares the standard URL for the site not a link to view on Feedly. Or, maybe these two statements are independant of one another and they should both be done separately? I've done that too! I've also added the feed to recommended feeds inside fresh web explorer and that didn't work either! So, Moz and Help team please help me! How can I get links I've built for clients into Just Discovered Links? Thank you!

OSE: Missing back-links and High DA website with low DA backlinks
I have gone through a website with 81 DA; where its link equity back-links with highest DA of 70. Hardly 5 back-links 60 to 70 DA and just 25 root domains. This seems very unusual to me. Can someone clarify this for me? Can a website with low DA back-links can make high DA? If so what could be other major contributing factors for this?

Facebook likes in OSE when there is no Facebook Like button on the web page
In OSE how are page specific facebook likes calculated when the page does not have a Facebook like/share button on it? I have seen many pages with multiple Facebook likes counted against it in OSE but cannot see how people could be liking the page.

Moz can't crawl domain due to IP Geo redirect loop
Hi, I'm trying to crawl our domain www.salvationarmy.org.au via my Moz account and it only ever returns results for one page when it should be crawling more than 3,000 pages. In talking to support, they have said that because of the redirect we have in place it is creating a 302 loop and therefore not delivering results. Usually in this case I would obtain Moz's IP addresses and add them to the redirect settings as an exception, but Moz have said they use cloud-based services for crawling so the IPs change all the time. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this issue? At this point I've paid for a year's subscription to a product I can't use. Thanks, Mel

Loving the new OSE integration!
Finally, OSE is now like "integrated" in Moz! And it looks awesome. Not only from a design perspective, but also, I think all the login issues in that past I was having are now solved! Nicely done Moz!
