Website Revision
-
Hi all~
We are completely remaking our website: www.containmydog.com.
I believe we have a good handle on the visual aspects of the redesign. What are the backend or behind the scenes (probably not using the technical term) things that need to be done so search engines know where things are. For example i know we are not going to remove some pages , change were some pages are on the site and add new pages.
Is there a checklist that lists the important things to do when designing/redesigning a website? If there is not a checklist what are the things I should be asking the web person we hire?

When you are redesigning the website and you already have a handle on the design part meeting the aesthetics.
You need to remember about the developer who will be implementing that new look.
I like to start off with a site map where you can create the navigation for your website. This will obviously matter quite a bit because you want the URLs to point like a pyramid I will show you in a photo.
I cannot stress how important it is to 301 redirect URLs that are changing with the old version of the rewritten URL or the most relevant. Please remember if it's not relevant and it does not have back links it can be 404ed or better 410ed
I strongly suggest you purchase deep crawl or screaming frog I believe the combination is ideal but take a look at them.

- Use this with the tools above

reachability is important you need to have a site architecture that does not take the user to many clicks away from the home page. alexa.com $49 not bad.
better illustrated here

in case the photograph is too small here is a larger URL so you can read the tips the bottom one that's cut off is very important

I do not want to overwhelm you but it is very serious when you are redesigning a website.
I recommend hiring Greg Reindel if you are already using WordPress and I can tell you are on a great server using Genesis most likely?
http://www.gregreindel.com/ ( he helped create Genesis 2.0)

let me know if you're talking about SEO's as well as developers?
Sincerely,
Thomas

I am actually happy that you are not one of those who believe that the importance of website is nothing but a company display! When you are redesigning your website this time you probably should consider the following things in-mind regardless of what CMS systems you use and what kind of design you have.
- It should not take 3 to 5 seconds for your website to display its first page to your target audience.
- Design and navigation should be easy enough for a visitor to continue their journey on the website instead of bouncing right after landing on the website.
- Clear call to action so that he can easily convert in to lead and customer if he wants.
There are more ideas as well. Here is the checklist from hubspot that you should consider important when redesigning your website. http://cdn2.hubspot.net/hub/53/file-13220778-pdf/docs/ebooks/10-step-checklist-website-redesign.pdf
If you managed to create your website using this checklist not only your search engine visibility gets better but it will also help you increase your conversion rate as well as your website will be much more user friendly as it is at the moment.
Hope this help!

Moz crawler is not able to crawl my website
Hi, i need help regarding Moz Can't Crawl Your Site i also share screenshot that Moz was unable to crawl your site on Mar 26, 2022. Our crawler was not able to access the robots.txt file on your site. This often occurs because of a server error from the robots.txt. Although this may have been caused by a temporary outage, we recommend making sure your robots.txt file is accessible and that your network and server are working correctly. Typically errors like this should be investigated and fixed by the site webmaster.

Transferring website onto a new domain and it has disappeared in the rankings
Hi, First time posting! Our website was page 1 for just about all local searches (legal related). Due to a rebrand we took the site over onto a new domain name and it has totally dropped - on average pages 8-9, even for local searches. The transfer was done back in May, I did expect a hit but I assumed it would recover fairly quickly but it doesn't seem to be the case. Any ideas/advice/tips would be greatly appreciated 🙂 Jamie

Similar Websites, Same C Block: Can I Get a Penalty?
One of my website has been heavily hit by Google's entire zoo so I decided to phase it out while building a new one. Old website: www.thewebhostinghero.com
Technical SEO | | sbrault74
New website: www.webhostinghero.com Now the thing is that both websites are obviously similar since I kept the branding. They also both have content about the same topics. No content has been copied or spinned or whatever though. Everything's original on both websites. There were only 3 parts of both websites that were too similar in terms of functionalities so I "noindexed" it on the old website. Now it seems that Google doesn't want you to have multiple websites for the same business just for the sake of occupying more space in the search results. This can especially be detected by the websites' C block. I am not sure if this is myth or fact though. So do you think I'm in a problematic situation with this scenario? It's getting ridiculous all you have to watch for when building a website, I'm afraid to touch my keyboard in fear my websites will get penalized! Sorry for my english btw.0 -
Wordpress Website + 404 Errors
Hi everyone, I like to do a bit of auditing for our clients using SEOMoz. Once client that's using a Wordpress website had reported over a couple hundred 404 errors. However, when checking out the links, all the webpages (that I've tested) loaded just fine. Does anyone know why this would be the case? I thought, perhaps, the website might have gone down when it was crawling, but I have no evidence to back this up.

Reusing content owned by the client on websites for other locations?
Hello All! Newbie here, so I'm working through some of my questions 🙂 I do have two major question regarding duplicate content: _Say a medical hospital has 4 locations, and chooses to create 4 separate websites. Each website would have the same design, but different NAP, and contact info, etc. Essentially, we'd be looking at creating their own branded template. _ My question 1.) If the hospitals all offer similar services, with roughly the same nav, does it make sense to have multiple websites? I figure this makes the most sense in terms of optimizing for their differing locations. 2.) If the hospital owns the content on the first site, I'm assuming it is still necessary to change it duplicates for the other properties? Or is it possible to differentiate between the duplication of owned content from other instances of content duplication? Everyone has been fantastic here so far, looking forward to some feedback!
