Yext Power Listings and SEO Question...
-
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone that has used Yext's Power Listings has experienced any negative (or positive) organic SEO results. As you know if you've used Yext, it creates a ton of links from directories. I think they're mainly no-follow links, but wanted to check if anyone has had experience (either good, bad, or neutral) regarding impact on organic results.
Thanks.

Hi Miriam,
Thanks for your reply. Yext may be overkill for what I want right now, so I'm going to try Moz Local and another, less well known service (LocalSiteSubmit) and see which seems to do the best job of showing me the status quo, and fixing errors and omissions. Sort of an A/B test for site submit tools. Looking forward to trying the Moz tool, I have a lot of respect for the entire Moz brand so imagine this will be another solid tool.
Appreciate your response!

Hi Michael -
Moz Local provides a little bit different of a service than Yext, in that we help you get your data updated on the 5 major US aggregators + 2 other important platforms, working on the concept that this data should then move out from there, as illustrated by this infographic of the Local Search Ecosystem:
https://moz.com/learn/local/local-search-data-us
Moz Local also helps you surface inconsistent, incomplete and duplicate listings on a total of 15 different platforms.
At $84 per Moz Local listing, our price is also a popular selling point for many customers. If you have any further questions about Moz Local, please fire away!

I just got off the phone with Yext and have similar concern. They want $500 per year to update/correct approx. 60 listings. Frankly, having a single source (with Dashboard) site to update and maintain that many listings has some value, but the first thing I did was come here to see if there were other, better solutions. Thanks to Chantal it seems there are.
My original question was how does the Moz Local product compare to Yext? Anyone have opinions on that topic?
Checking out expressupdate.com now. Thanks!
Mike

I've just been through this. Yext wants $500 to put your listing on free sites (which is absurd IMO). You can fix your listing on most of these sites at expressupdate.com for free.

Hey There!
While I have not personally used this service, I do recall this blog post from Nyagoslav Zhekov a couple of years back on this topic:
http://www.ngsmarketing.com/why-yext-might-not-be-the-best-fit-for-your-business/
You might want to read through that. And, if we have any community members here who have positive experiences with Yext to share, please do speak up!

We used them at my old agency but they didn't have much effect. In fact, we stopped using them and nobody else in the company noticed.
My 2c is it's more valuable to manually find a few nicer places to do link drops if that's your strategy. Anything "power link building" worries me (although to be fair, we have a few that we do as general directories and they work fine. It just depends what link you're going for and what niche you're trying to rank.
But yeah, in our experience no real effect from adding or removing.

Local SEO for E-commerce
Hi there I am running an ECommerce site that supplies products globally! We have 2 administrative offices - the UK and Ireland. When setting Google my business, do you suggest setting 2 listings - one for the UK and one for Ireland? Both listings will link to the same E-Commerce homepage but with different phone numbers. Please give me advice=)

Why is a Google Listing Showing Up in a Different Town Than Its Address?
I have a client who runs a dental office on the outskirts of Racine, WI. His address specifically shows up as being in Racine, however, his GMB profile has always showed with the category of "Dentist in Mount Pleasant, WI" displaying below the photos. (Mount Pleasant is the next town over and his office straddles the line between the two towns in Google's overlay map of the town.) Obviously this is frustrating and I'm concerned that his location is hurting his ability to rank in the larger, more populous town of Racine. Have any other SEOs ever encountered this? And if so, how have you approached the issue? Location pages? Mentions of the location more often on the pages? tsLvH2B

Departments within businesses, universities, hospitals, and government institutions may have their own listings on Google.

Publicly-facing departments that operate as distinct entities should have their own page. The exact name of each department must be different from that of the main business and that of other departments. Typically such departments have a separate customer entrance and should each have distinct categories. Their hours may sometimes differ from those of the main business.
• Acceptable (as distinct listings):
o "Walmart Vision Center"
o "Sears Auto Center"
o "Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Dermatology"
• Not acceptable (as distinct listings):
o The Apple products section of Best Buy
o The hot food bar inside Whole Foods Market
For each department, the category that is the most representative of that department must be different from that of the main business and that of other departments.
• The main business "Wells Fargo" has the category "Bank" whereas the department "Wells Fargo Advisors" has the category "Financial Consultant"
• The main business "South Bay Toyota" has the category "Toyota Dealer" whereas the "South Bay Toyota Service & Parts" has the category "Auto Repair Shop" (plus the category "Auto Parts Store")
• The main business "GetGo" has the category "Convenience Store" (plus the category "Sandwich Shop") whereas the department "GetGo Fuel" has the category "Gas Station", and the department "WetGo" has the category "Car Wash"1 -
Our website ranks first in SERP but is not listed in google local list
Hi, Our website is currently (and has been) ranking 1st for a number of keywords but is not listed under the Google Local list. I have double check that all the (physical) info is correct. I do not have a duplicate page. When I order the Google Local results in rating order, we then appear on top! Has anyone come across such a situation and would you have tips on how to solve this issue? Thanks!

Local sites to make sure I'm listed in - which ones?
I'd love to know what sites this community deems most important when looking at whether my business & site are listed there. I know the obvious - Google Places, Yahoo Maps, Bing Local, Yelp. Foursquare. What others do you consider to be "mission critical" to the general market? Thanks!

Different phone numbers in local listings
We are setting up Google My Business for a client who has multiple locations around the country. They use different phone numbers to track enquiries from different sources - Yell, Google+, Direct Web Traffic, PPC etc. Therefore the phone numbers can be different between Google My Business and local listings. How much does/would this affect the Local listing? It may appear that Google is penalising for businesses try to understand their customers and where they come from!

Show Address or Not, this is the question
Our physical address is not manned because we primarily go to the customer site either electronically or in person. So technically, we are not supposed to check the box in Google+ " I also serve customers at my business address." Having the box unchecked hides the address on the Google+ page leaving just City and State. Now that we have submitted our location in Moz Local, we see this causes an inconsistent listing issue. The address shows in other listings but not in Google+. On one hand, we do not want people showing up to our location expecting to find us there when we are not. On the other hand, we want our listings to be consistent so that customers can see that we are local and can deliver our services in person when necessary. So what should we do about this? p8A6ZW5 ReWtbOa
