Want to know Best Method to fix keyword cannibalization issue?
-
I have a website that has been experiencing keyword cannibalization issue since last 2-3 months. We have one main key search term to bring our website TOP ranking, but we have been seeing our website’s 2 different pages ranking strangely sometime for 1st page& sometime for 2nd page that one main key search term.
As e.g.:
our main key search term 1st page rank sometime instead 2nd page
our main key search term 2nd page rank sometime instead pageI am looking for best solution here to get this fixed..

Thanks Patrick for the reply,
Let me like to tell that each of both pages of our website rank once in listing for our main key search term. It happens to see sometime 1st page rank(that is homepage) and sometime 2nd page rank(sub-page of website). But both pages don't rank together in the SERPs.Ranking both pages alternatively is not anything serious thing causing or splitting our main objective page to rank higher??
We are trying to figure out, what BEST SOLUTION we can have to implement in order to bring our any of web-page first-5 rank .. ??
Warm Regards,

this of it like this, all roads lead to Rome.
To the search engine its like following a sign saying elevator, going into a room and seeing another sign that says elevator and so on, until your in the elevator and no more signs to follow, they think well this must be it. The page you want to rank should be the final destination, link from one page to the other with relevant link text, but not back again -
Hi Aman
I would consider this a good problem to have actually - you're doing a good job of topic association in Google's mind and have multiple pages that cater to a specific query or keyword - good job on you and your team! Take a look at this Whiteboard Friday on topics, as well as this fantastic post from Kate Morris.
I would start looking at your website as a funnel and taking a look at your calls to action and internal links depending on the content for those pages that are ranking. Based on the content of that page, what's the logical next step for your users and potential customers? Where in the funnel does this particular page fall?
You can see why a. it's a good thing that multiple pages rank and b. why it's important that there is a logical next step.
I wrote some thoughts about your site and content being structured like a funnel so that users can find the next logical step.
So, again, while two different pages appear, there are opportunities based on the content to keep users moving. This isn't a bad thing - the fact two pages are appearing means that your site is valuable to different queries for Google. Take it as a compliment!
Let me know if you have any questions or comments - good luck!

A website with some guidelines points similar - is this creates an issue?
Hey Guys, Please clarify my doubt at the earliest. We just revamped the website with new content and hired a content writer for our services page to make it done. I just came across with 2 pages with similar guidelines over the content. These are the pages showing some similarity of bulletins. Please take a look on it and give the reply, it creates any ranking issues or not. Keywords Ranking Fluctuate
Hi Moz Community! I've been working with a client’s website for about a year now. They were hit with the original Panda/ Penguin update because of some spammy links. We have analysed and disavow sapmmy links edit anchor tag and landing pages. We've made a decent climb back while working on it keywords ranking was improved some of them are from out of 500 to top 30, but not a full recovery. There are some weird things happening that I would love some insight into. 1. Ranking for keywords are again dropping and traffic is gone: I notice keyword ranking is dropping and some of the keywords which are on 2 and 3 page, now on 9th page. And also traffic is down. Any help would be appreciated! Regards, S

Seeing URLS indexed that we don't want how do we approach this?
Hey guys, I have seen a few pages in the SERPS that are appearing from my site, some of these pages urls are actually ajax to refresh the buttons on our site... If these are important to our site but don't need to show up in the serps results can anyone recommend anything? Should I remove the urls? Or exclude them from the sitemap? or noindex? Any advice would be much appreciated thanks

Would having a + plus sign between keywords in meta title have an effect on SEO?
I have seen one of my clients' competitors do this in their meta title and it got me a little intrigued... I understand that google uses the + sign as an operator in adwords, and to a certain extent, as a search tool, but would it help or make any difference to the SEO in the meta title/data (eg. 'SEO+Marketing+Services')? Thanks

How best to do Location Specific Pages for Eccomerce Post Panda Update..
Hi , We have an eCommerce site and currently we have a problem with duplicate content. We created Location specific landing pages for our product categories which initially did very well until the recent Google Panda update caused a big drop in ranking and traffic. example http://xxx.co.uk/rent/lawn-mower/London/100 http://.xxx.co.uk/rent/lawn-mower/Manchester/100 Much of the content on these location pages is the same or very similar apart from different H1 tag, title tag and in some cases slight variations on the on page content but given that these items can be hired from 200 locations it would take years to have unique content for every location for each category... We did this originally in April as we can't compete nationally but we found it was easier to compete locally ,hence the creation of the location pages and it did do well for us until now. My question is , since the last Google Panda update, our traffic has dropped 40% , and rankings have gone through the floor and we are stuck with this mess Should we get rid off (301 ) all of the location specific pages for each of the categories ot just keep say 10 locations per cities as the most popular ones and either do No follow no index the other locations or 301's or what would people recommend ? The only examples I can see on the internet that others do with multiple locations is to have a store finder type thing... but you cant' rank for the individual product /category doing it that way... If anyone has any advice or good examples of sites I could see that employ a good location url specific method, please let me know. thanks Sarah
