Optimal amount of alt and title tags on a landing page?
-
Hey guys! We are preparing a few product landing pages and want to make sure the alt and title tags are done correctly. We looked at landing pages from Apple and Google Nexus and found that they had very few alt and title tags (or none). Are we missing something here? Should there be an alt for every image and title for every link?
-
Hi Umar,
Great links, thank you!
-
Thank you John! Regarding the ALT tags, they should be a description of the image as you said (google: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/114016?hl=en) I was wondering why this page on moz say it should be a "keyword" (https://moz.com/learn/seo/on-page-factors)

John has already answered but i am a bit confused about the "title" tag. I think the "title" in the question is related to the image title instead of the page title here. Or may be i am wrong. If the title tag is about the page, then it should be considered seriously. There are more than 200 ranking factors and a page title tag is one of them.
Brands like Apple and Google needs no introduction and their domain are already filled up with high metrics. Its wise to follow up the SEO best practices and of course MOZ has all of them covered.
And i would optimize every alt tag of the images as well as assign the height and width.

John is clearly explained the importance of both tags and their placements. Product landing pages (especially for E-Commerce sites) are always very important as these are the pages your visitors will gonna convert. So it's better to spend some time there to make sure the pages are properly optimised for machines and humans.

google nexus has a domain authority of 100.... so they have a bit of a head start..
On your title tags yes, you should make a title tag for each link. The title tag and H1 are key indicators to search engines telling search engines what "customer query" the page answers. The tag tag is a vital element in SEO.https://moz.com/learn/seo/title-tag
Alt tags are less important - but they are also in my view important as they allow google to crawl more content, which may assist as a ranking factor for keywords. Alt tags were designed for the visually impaired, alt tags let a text reader read a description of the image.

Too many page links warning... but each link has canonical back to main page? Is my page OK?
The Moz crawl warns me many of my pages have too many links, like this page http://www.webjobz.com/jobs/industry/Accounting ...... has 269 links but many of the links are like this /jobs/jobtitles/Accounting?k=&w=3&hiddenLocationID=463170&depth=2 and are used to refine search criteria.... when you click on those links they all have a canonical link back to http://www.webjobz.com/jobs/industry/Accounting Is my page being punished for this? Do I have to put "no follow" tags on every link I do not want the bots to follow and if I do so is Roger (moz bot) not going to count this as a link?

Can a page lose ranking because it has too many bold tags?
I run a product search website for the Engineering Sector. Each of the companies listed on the website has a profile page. This page used to rank very well in google. Over the last couple of weeks these pages disappeared for google i.e they fell about 20 to 30 spots in the search results for relevant keywords like the Manufacturer Name. I was trying to analyze the page and found that Each of the Categories that the manufacturer supports was listed in "bold" and linked to the page for that category. A manufacturer can support up to 20 or 30 categories so this results in about 20 or 30 Bold keywords. Is this a bad practice? Could this be a reason for a drop in ranking or do bold keywords on a page not matter? What are your views?

I am optimizing title tags and was wondering if it makes a difference if I use "commas" in between keywords that are synonyms or should I use "and" instead?
For example: "pants, trousers at pants.com" or "pants and trousers at pants.com".

Potential Duplicate Title Tags On Sibling Pages
Edit I'll take the fall on this one, seems I could have asked my quesiton in a more clear manner. I was cruising other questions and finding a whole of answers that I suspect were not truly intended to help, but maybe help and earn Mozpoints. Wasn't fair of me to label those answering here with that. I will work better on the wording of my questions! 🙂 Edit Either I am asking my question poorly or I am learning there may be a rush to get points by throwing up any old answer...it very well may be the former which I am open to feedback on. Each page is to stand alone and hopefully rank well for the neighbourhood name and in conjunction with another relevant keyword phrase. There is no 'duplicate' version of any pages. * On a site there are numerous pages that provide real estate listings broken down by neighbourhood. Each containing similar content, a abbreviated version of the listings, often spanning 2 or 3 pages. These are 3rd level pages. Properties->Calgary Neighbourhoods->Evanston The title tags created are: Evanston Homes For Sale - NW Calgary Real Estate Panorama Hills Home For Sale - NW Calgary Real Estate Etc. for about 15 or so pages. Then they start again for another area of the city: Sagewood Homes For Sale - Airdrie Real Estate Woodside Homes For Sale - Airdrie Real Estate At this point there is no text on the actual page outside of the listings...an example of similar listings on another site - http://www.experiencerealtygroup.com/BaturynandDunluceHomes.ubr Do you think the SE's will see these as 'proper' use of the Title Tag or duplicate or other practices they tend to frown upon? It is a logical way of creating the title and obviously creating a unique version for each page would not only be tough to scale on some sites with 100's of these pages, they would become a little silly and not much use to the searcher in the SERPs Thanks for any help!
