We use SLI for our searches and are thinking of just going back to the searches on our platfrom Bigcommerce
-
Does anyone have any experience with the advantages of using a search product like SLI in comparison to the search available on Bigcommerce.
We currently use SLI for the searches on our site but think over the years we have been using SLI that the searches on Bigcommerce have improved and we are thinking of switching back to using the Bigcommerce search.
Regards
Adrienne

Hello Adrienne,
SLI is going to have some features that BigCommerce isn't going to have in their default site search. However, as you said, BigCommerce has come a long way in this area. It really comes down to features, and what is important for you.
For me, I look at three main areas:
- Ease of use and user-experience for the consumer
- Relevancy of results
- Analytics
In all three of those areas, BigCommerce has it covered. It's easy to use, provides relevant results (and search suggestions), and you get reports like Keywords Without Results and Worst Performing Keywords (among others) which help answer all kinds of questions, from which pages to optimized to which products to source. I used to send the buyers at one store these reports quarterly, and they sourced many new, top-selling products because of it.
If you're missing any of the SLI "learning" features in BigCommerce's standard search, you may be able to get them with an add-on like this: https://www.bigcommerce.com/apps/searchspring-advanced-site-search/ (Note: I haven't used SearchSpring).

Search results vary in chrome vs other browsers even in Incognito mode: Google's stand?
Hi all, We use incognito mode or private browsing to check the Actual results which are not impacted by previous history, location (sometimes), etc. Even we browse this way, we can see the different search results. Why would this happen? What's Google's stand on this? What is the actual way to browse to get the unbiased results for certain search queries? I have experienced that Chrome will rank our own websites bit higher compared to the other browsers even in incognito mode. Thanks

Pros and Cons Google Site Search
I'm having a hard time finding the actual pros and cons of implementing Google Site Search on a website. Thoughts? Any data on bounce rate of internal SERP because UX doesn't look like the website? I know you can customize, but most examples I've seen still look pretty different from the stie's native style. Any other cons? Data issues, etc?

Storing & Analyzing Site Search Phrases
We are adding a JQuery smart search to our site that provides product suggestions as our visitors type. I can create a simple script to store precisely what the visitors are searching for and how they type it. However... I am not sure how to best analyze the data for use. Simply storing the data does not tell me how many times a particular phrase was used. I believe a smart suggestion search tool will skew my results, as it will suggest what I list my product names as in my database rather than what they call it. I don't want to reinvent the wheel. I found a great JQuery script for the suggestion search, but is there anything out there for storing and analyzing the user search input?
