Two lots of Analytics - one not Universal
-
Hi,
We have been using two lots of GA code on our website - one was the old code and we added the new GA code under a different property too.
Now that the old code is redundant do I:
-
update the old code on property 1 to the Universal version and keep running the two properties (not sure this is the one I should do)
-
remove the old code from property 1 and don't replace it with Universal version (but what happens to historical data?)
-
remove the new code in property 2 and update the old code to the latest Universal version (but what happens to the historical data in property 2 or doesn't it matter?)
The current code on the site is:
<noscript><p>Please enable javascript</p></noscript>
<noscript><p>Please enable javascript</p></noscript>
<noscript><p>Please enable javascript</p></noscript>
<noscript><div>Please enable JavaScript for your browser.</div></noscript>
I've clearly got a bit confused so help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Upgrading from Classic GA to UA GA is one way, but you didn't loose counted historical data. You just can't go back.

Thanks.
I had added the second property code because at the time I think was the only way to get the Universal Analytics without losing historical data. I looked at https://blog.kissmetrics.com/universal-analytics/ which said:
"Setting up Universal Analytics
You need to set up a whole new property for Universal Analytics. This will send all of your site data to a new location. You won’t lose your old data. It will just get split up between two different properties. However, you will be starting over from scratch with your new “Universal” data."I was leaning more towards the option you suggested so now feel more confident removing the second property code and I'll upgrade the first property code to Universal.

In mine experience there are very rare needs for two GA codes in same site. And also they can be headache over time - counting twice, buggy bounce rate, slow loading, etc. I've seen site with bounce as less than 1% in world...
So i will keep old GA code and will remove new one. I also can update old GA code to UA. Why? Old code store historical data and when you make analysis you need to go back in 2008/2009 for example. You can't make in GA analysis crossing assets (different tracking properties). Also you can't make in GA changing assets (i.e. export data from old asset and import it on new asset or move between them).
As i said before there is rare needs. But company can be sold partially, sites can be sold too. Also two teams need to make different analysis of sites.

Problems with analytics, conversation data and assisted conversions
Hi guys. Having issues with analytics. Firstly, it doesn't record all our sales accurately. My boss downloaded a sales report directly from our site, and it doesn't match up to the analytics, our actual sales were significantly higher than Google analytics was reporting (by about a 1/3). Any idea why Google is missing so many of the conversions? Also, I'm trying to work our how many assisted conversion we are getting from our ad words campaigns. I've been looking through our top conversion path data to try find conversions that started with a paid click. However, I seem to have some inconsistencies. We have only one ad words group that is on the display network (Re-marketing V1 Ad group 1) , and according to analytics we have a conversion from it (See Screen shot 1). However, there is no record of this in our ad words data. (See screen shot 2). This is over the same time period. I don't know what to take from this. Can anyone help? Isaac. Re-classifying a Traffic Source in Google Analytics
Hey All, I think it's inside of the Admin section of Google Analytics, right now I have a traffic source from the domain of indeed.ca that is being classified as Organic traffic when it should be classified as referring traffic, how can I tell Google Analytics that all traffic from this source should be classified as referral traffic and not organic traffic? Furthermore, after I make this change, will Google Analytics re-classify my past data so I can do a proper analysis? I can't remember how to do this and any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Google Keyword Tool versus Google Analytics
Hi I'm trying to establish a methodology to best show the gap between potential and realised organic keyword traffic. To obtain potential keyword traffic I'm using the Google Adwords keyword tool to derive local monthly search volumes for exact keyword matches. To get the realised data I'm using Google Analytics. However, to get the I'm confused as to which is the best way of getting a comparable metric from Google Analytics (GA). I was using custom reports and the 'organic searches' metric. However, this provides different values to a standard report selecting non-paid search in the default advanced segments. What is the best report/metric in GA to use for both organic and paid search volumes that would be comparable to the Google Adwords keyword tool. Thanks Neil
