Products To Products links
-
Hi,
I want to create good internal linking structure, but I have a problem with product to product link.E.g. I have a new model of product: iPhone 6, and old iPhone 5, and I want to put link from iPhone 5 to iPhone 6, but if I make link like this, I dropped for a few positions.
Also, if I have similar product e.g. photography Kit for iPhone 6, and I put a link from this additional product to iPhone 6, I will lose my position.
Why, do you have any recommendations? -
Tormar,
Can you share the site so we can see exactly what's going on and provide a better answer?
We find many eCommerce sites overdo anchor text. For example, if you sell Car Stereos and you have brands/manufacturer categories in the navigation, this is too much anchor text for "car stereos" below:
Car Stereos by Brand
JVC Car Stereos
Clarion Car Stereos
Kenwood Car Stereos
Blaupunkt Car Stereos
....We advice those clients to use labels like this:
Car Stereos by Brand
JVC
Clarion
Kenwood
Blaupunkt
...Without seeing your site, I'm not sure exactly what you're doing. However, if you find that the changes you made continue to have a negative impact on your rankings, the obvious choice would be to undo those changes.
-
I do not believe that is the point. This test was live 5 days and I loosed maybe 4-5 positions.
What anchor text is recommended to use? I used some phrase keywords. -
How long did you let that test run for? I have seen plenty of first-hand evidence to support the assumption that Google purposefully moves rankings around like this when they see changes. It used to be easy to test things. You change something, wait a couple of days, check your rankings. The search quality team at Google has no doubt known for a long time that this is how many SEOs operate. It isn't surprising to think they may purposefully push down rankings for awhile just to confuse webmasters / SEOs who are trying to reverse engineer the algorithm or test things like this.
-
These situations aren't hypothetical because I tested. My I phone 6 page lose rank if I put link on iPhone 5 page to iPhone 6 page, and same situation is with photography Kit page, if I put link on "Photography Kit page" to iPhone 6 page, my iPhone 6 will lose rank.
-
Hi Tormar!
Just to be sure I'm understanding, are you saying that your iPhone 5 page lost rankings when you added a link from it to your iPhone 6 page, and that your Photography Kit page lost rankings when you added a link from it to your iPhone 6 page? Or are you saying the former happened, so you're concerned the latter will, too? Or are both of these situations hypothetical, and you're just nervous about adding either of these links?

Internal Linking | Site Architecture & Impact of PANDA
Recently, an SEO told me about a problem with my site architecture. Before I take any action, I would like some advice on this. May be this is basic for may people who read this. My e-commerce site has over 400 pages - all of which are regularly updated. I sell 4 products and all 400 pages have an image (which says "subscribe now") clicking on which gets the user to the subscription/payment page. Many pages have 3 images on the same page (mostly because these pages are huge with more than 2000 words on each page and they require a lot of scrolling down, so we placed the "subscribe now" button at the top, middle and end of page). Now effectively this means that there are over 1000+ images pointing to the subscription/ payment page. (1) I have been told that I should either remove these or put a "nofollow" on these images/subscribe now buttons. Should I do either? Similarly, I have a legal disclaimer at the end of each page with a link to a detailed disclaimer page (this appears once under each page) followed by a standard boilerplate language (which I think will be about 15% of the total page content). (2) Should I use image for the language instead? Does it count as duplicity of content? Note: All redirects and pages are on the same/ my own domain.

Using Amazon Product Reviews on my Website
Does anyone know if I can use Amazon Reviews for products that I put on Amazon? I "own" the listing on Amazon because we are the exclusive manufacturers of this product so the review is only referring to products that were sold through our company. Thanks,

Footer links vs Homepage Content
We are redesigning this site http://www.crystalshop.co.uk/ but not reinstating the ecommerce yet so the primary aim of the site is to increase foot traffic in the shops. The list of shops on the RHS of the homepage is really messy but is useful. I would like to move these to the footer... is this a bad idea? If this is, is it a bit of a gamble to move it to the bottom of the homepage rather than higher up as it is? We are already featuring a link to the shop finder page but I want to get the locations in as prominent place as possible but it's quite a long list!

My worst performing pages all have this /products/ URL structure...?
I rank first for my brand "example" on example.com But my product pages simply don't rank. Frankly, I don't know where they rank, but it's not top 40. They are indexed, as searching "site:example.com" returns all my site's pages. My product pages are outranked even by some of my shorter blog posts about the product. My product pages are the only ones on the site that use a folder/directory in the url. example.com**/products/**product-one is nowhere but this is the main product page. example.com/short-blog-article-about-product-one. Is the fact that the product pages are with the slashes a red herring and I should be looking for anther cause? Or is google saying, well these product pages are the only ones in these sort of path and therefore we'll treat them as secondary sources? Thanks

What is the best way to embed a link back to our site in our video embed codes?
Our site has over 100 great videos. We are currently streaming them all from our YouTube channel. I noticed SEOMoz is using http://www.wistia.com and that when I copy and paste a video from SEOMoz that code has a link back to the SEOMoz site in it, which of course is awesome for SEO. My question has several parts: Is this possible to do with an embed code from YouTube? Specifically directed towards SEOMoz: Which of the 3 types of player did you choose, HTML5, Flash or javascript? Why? Is Wistia just creating a video feed, or are they actually hosting your video content too? Our goal is two-fold: 1. We want people who embed our videos to be also embeddding a link back to our site and 2. We want our videos to be found in SERPs and have those direct people to our site instead of our YouTUbe channel. I'd welcome any comments regarding video SEO in this thread. Thanks!

How to build links with really good S3 hosted video using JW Player
I have a number of really good quality videos that are embedded on my own site. Many are "how to" or "what to do if" type video guides with questions answered by experts. They were professionally shot. So that I could reap the full SEO benefit from the videos, I have them hosted via Amazon S3 and am using an embedded JW Player. We have a video sitemap and, as a result, most of the videos have already been indexed by Google and are showing up in Google video search as residing on our webpage. Now the real problem is how to get some link benefit from them. They should be viable and valuable link bait. My initial thought was to do a PR Web type press release with the video embedded in it. The problem with that is that you are limited to Youtube and Vimeo embedded video which defeats that purpose entirely. PR Newswire has different issues but the end result is the same, I can't embed those videos with them either. As far as I can tell, all I could do with a press release would be to link to the videos. Moreover, I don't even know that press releases would be that valuable in the post penguin world but the hope was that people would share the videos naturally. So, I put it to the experts. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get some link benefit from these videos? Any ideas at all? I am stumped. Any advice would be appreciated.

What is the best way to internally link via images?
What is the best way to internally link via images? I have a website about shoes with all different brands. Let's say I'm trying to rank for "ABC sandals", and on the ABC page I have a "related brands" section with 4 logos of related sandal brands, linking to their respective page. Currently the alt text of the logos is "XYZ Logo" with the link title text "XYZ." Would it be beneficial to have change either the image alt text, or the link title text, or both to "XYZ sandals"?
