Will adding schema markup to copied Google reviews show up in organic search?
-
Google no longer favors my client's industry with Google reviews in local Snack Pack results, but a national competitor has markup for site-based reviews that are showing up in organic results, which is a big, shiny, advantage.
Rather than have to solicit reviews in two places (Google and the site), I'm wondering if it would be possible/advisable to copy and paste the Google reviews into the site and mark them up there, in an attempt to get Google to feature the rating in the organic SERP result?
I don't know if this would work though, since I'm guessing part of the reason that Google accepts the competitor reviews is because they are verified purchases, which wouldn't be possible just cutting and pasting. But is it worth a try?
It's too bad though, Google is effectively only showing handpicked, "national" reviews, which does local customers a disservice.
Thank you!

Hey There,
There may be some problems with cross posting Google reviews on your own website, but it's a matter of discussion. Good thoughts on this here: http://www.localvisibilitysystem.com/2013/04/04/the-complete-guide-to-google-pluslocal-reviews-and-especially-how-to-get-them/
When Google+ was a viable option for local businesses, there was a technique you could use to embed posts featuring Google reviews within your website without fear of duplicate content filters, but given that Google+ has now gone the way of the dodo bird, I'm not sure what has happened to website that were doing this.

Sounds like we should push to collect reviews in both places, thanks!
-
Thanks, that's basically my thinking, but wondered if there was a way to sort of canonically note they are Google reviews. We'll just have to fight on two fronts.

We generally don't recommend copying/pasting reviews (or other content) from other sites and then putting those on your own site. Google sees that as duplicate content. Furthermore, Google doesn't like those reviews to be on more than one site at a time.
If you do have reviews on your site, make sure that they're unique to your site and don't appear on other sites. In that case you can, in fact, mark them up with Schema. But that doesn't guarantee Google will show that markup in the search results.

Hi,
I added independent reviews because the Google reviews didnt show anymore. They provide me a feed which I implement in the footer. Than it will show up on every page and so in every result in de SERP's. The feed looks like below.
Most important are the &nor=20 (the number of reviews it should take from the feed.) and the**&Basescore=5** since this is the 5star Rich Snippet Google uses.
Thus I would'nt go for the Google rating but an independant rating company who will have a plugin most likely for the most common CMS's.
It takes a few weeks form them to be in place for all results but its worth the investment in time and money :). Good luck with it!

Why would the review count be different between the Ad and the Organic result?
A client inquired about this after finding that their review count was different on their Google Ad that appeared in the map pack compared to their organic result right below it. I am stumped so any thoughts or reasoning as to why this is the case would be appreciated. See attached screenshot! Lptujep

Should I publish Amazon reviews on my own site/products? Do I need to worry about duplicate content or anything else?
I'm redesigning my site expected launch early January. I'll be selling some products that are currently are only available on Amazon; and those listings have thousands of very positive reviews. I'm seeing apps that are available that will sync reviews from my Amazon seller account listings to my products on-site. I'd love to start my site off with the great validation these reviews are sure to provide customers, but I wonder how concerned I need to be about duplicate content or any other cons.

PPC: How do we get our reviews into AdWords?
Hi there, I know that Google have sadly discontinued ratings extension in AdWords but does anyone know a get-around for this? If possible, we'd like to show off the good reviews we have from Google My Business' Knowledge Panel in our ads. We're an online product/service so I don't want to link GMB through the location extension if possible (it doesn't make sense for anyone to pay us a visit in real life). Is there a better way of linking our AdWords to our GMB or is there an alternative extension/ AdWords feature we can use to get review ratings in our ad? Thanks 🙂

Potential Ethical Conflict: Google My Business Paid Reviews
I've been sitting on this for a while due to The Busies. So if this is nothing new, feel free to lash me several times with a somewhat moist noodle. And in that event, I promise not to make it weird. 😉 I use the Rewards application, from Google. Long story short, you fill in some demographic information and you receive Google Play credit when you complete surveys. It's a nice way to get a book, app, or music for little effort. But after giving a friend of mine a ride to a local hotel, I've received multiple survey requests that relate to that hotel brand. And it asks me to drop a local review, for extra Google Play credit. How is that ethical? Their own docs clearly state there is no way to pay for better local ranking, but they also admit reviews can improve local ranking. So isn't soliciting reviews, for any sort of compensation, at least a bit unethical? What are your thoughts? Attached are screenshots of the solicitation and GMB documentation. w4hEe

Google My Business - Switching from Local to National Presence
Hi, Before I started with my current employer (a national B2B company), someone set them up with a Google My Business page that has resulted in the home office appearing as a local search result. As a result, our competitors have a much more professional national Knowledge Graph sidebar complete with logo, Wikipedia blurb, social links, etc. displayed while we have a local result with reviews, images, and Google Map location. Since we are a B2B business with a national presence, I am trying to transition from the local to broader company Knowledge Graph result, but I'm struggling to find information on the best steps to remove the local result. While the reviews are improving, this is a service-based business with a B2C element when it comes to end users, so historical reviews have been unkind -- to the point that I'd like to make the transition to a national presence not only to better reflect the entire region we serve, but also to remove as much review visibility as possible. The only option in Google My Business I've seen so far is to report the business as being closed, which, of course, it is not. I know a big Step 1 is to get a new Wikipedia page for the business created. (The company is legitimately deserving of one. I'm still trying to find the most effective approach to tackling this without violating Wikipedia policies. ) Outside of that step, however, is there any sort of process someone can recommend for tackling this local-to-nation Google transition? Thanks, Andrew

JSON-ld markup in Wordpress post
Hello, I updated a blog post with JSON-ld Schema Markup (ItemList): http://www.acmetools.com/blog/11-best-cordless-circular-saws-2017/ It is currently not being recognized within Moz's toolbar, but if you view the structured data testing tool, you will see it is there and has no errors? 1. Does that mean I have an error within my header pertaining to JSON-ld markup? I can also see all the markup in the structured data testing tool. Right after the closed script of the markup I have this message: 2. Is that an issue to have all my markup, then it says START --> then END -->? Should my markup be between them?

Using structured data for reviews - for negative or warnings.
We all use review markup today and we use it linearly as only a vote up or down. My question is around a site that will judge the negative impacts of given chemicals introduced into certain waterways. (Sorry, I must protect the client so I cannot give out all the info; I hope this is enough for a reasonable understanding.) Is there anyone who has ever used or is aware of any markup that does not result in a star? So, if we use the current system, we end up where a bad chemical gets a ton of single stars. In essence what we are measuring is degrees of Positive. With four stars there is no zero positive, but 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% (Ok unless it is aggregated). I want to be able to show degrees of negative and obviously stars would be confusing. So, have a symbol that connotes a negative (skull and crossbones, X, !!, etc.) and the more of these someone marks shows more displeasure or more danger. Are there any ideas for this or any occurrences already on the Internet you may be aware of? Preference would be to be able to at some point have search engines show them as snippets. Thanks to all you Mozzers, Robert

Schema Reviews
Question about using Schema reviews. I believe I've set everything up correctly, and the Google Rich Snippets tool displays that I have...however in the SERP and on the page instead of displaying a graphic of four stars, it displays "4/5 stars" text. The Rich Snippet tool says that it should be displaying the graphic though. Anyone have experience with Schema and know if there's an extra step to take to display the graphic? Thank you!
