Hreflang problem?
-
Hello,
We do have a client with a site in multiple versions (one domain per country). French and Spanish versions work really fine, but the problem comes up with the .com and .co.uk versions.
This is my hreflang piece of code:
When I go to Google.co.uk and search the exact match domain keyword "how much cost an app", I only find the howmuchcostanapp.com domain (1st or 2nd page) instead of howmuchcostanapp.co.uk. The UK one is not appearing! This is very strange. I have spent a lot of time trying to solve this, but I don't know what else to do.
Thanks a lot in advance for your comments and help!

No, the hreflang tag is to indicate that the content is localized for a certain market (language + geo). If you simply use hreflang tags without genuinely localizing your content, Google might treat it as duplicate. See John Mueller's answer here where he clearly says this exact thing:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/webmasters/ezMvrlRWuDk/6XWuM1fIDgA
-
Well, that's why you use hreflang tag.
-
What I meant is that the 2 pages https://www.howmuchcostanapp.co.uk andhttps://www.howmuchcostanapp.com are duplicates of each other. They have not localized the en-GB site for English-speakers in the UK. So when Googlebot sees these 2 pages it might treat them as duplicates.
-
"The en and en-GB sites are duplicates of each other" - not true at all. "en" is for all english speaking users, "en-GB" is for english speaking users in Britain.
Here is Google's Article: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en
-
The en and en-GB sites are duplicates of each other. Without going through the entire questionnaire, you wouldn't know that one site gives you a quote in GBP and the other in USD. So as far as Googlebot is concerned, there is no difference between the en and en-GB sites. You haven't really localized the en-GB site for users in GB.
In such cases of duplicate content, Google sometimes (not always) ignores the Hreflang directive and just shows the stronger domain in SERPs.
By the way, you also have an error in your hreflang implementation. The tags for pt and pt-PT are mismatched on some of the pages. https://app.hreflang.org/results.php?runid=09c39ec6653fbefafe14b0cfe880d3ab20161031214914

Howdy!
Question - Are you just searching in google.co.uk or you are indeed in UK when searching? Because, as far as I know, hreflang is tailored towards your browser settings and location, rather than what google you are searching in. Example: if I'm in Germany with my laptop and searching for a local branch in Google.com, i want results in Germany, but in English. And vice versa - if I'm in US and searching in google.de - I'm most likely to be searching for business in US, but in German language.
Hope this makes sense

Problem to get multilingual posts indexed on Google
Last year on June I decided to make my site multi-lingual. The domain is: https://www.dailyblogprofits.com/ The main language English and I added Portuguese and a few posts on Spanish. What happened since then? I started losing traffic from Google and posts on Portuguese are not being indexed. I use WPML plugin to make it multi-lingual and I had Yoast installed. This week I uninstalled Yoast and when I type on google "site:site:dailyblogprofits.com/pt-br" I started seeing Google indexing images, but still not the missing posts. I have around 145 posts on Portuguese, but on Search Console it show only 57 hreflang tags. Any idea what is the problem? I'm willing to pay for an SEO Expert to resolve this problem to me.

Using same URL for both "en" and "en-us" hreflang tags
Hi,I have a question. Is it okay if I use the same URL for both "en" and "en-us" hreflang tags? For example, for my en-us page: Is this okay with Google? What are your thoughts on this?

Hreflang alternate as single-hop 301 - is this actually a problem?
First, this is not a question about whether 301 redirects pass page rank. My question is that if your hreflang alternative page URL is a 301 redirect*, are there any downsides. In all cases with our situation, the 301 redirect is single-hop and working. Tools, such as SEMRush seem to flag this as a non-canonical hreflang error, but I'm not able to find any cases where Google has suggested a redirecting hreflang is a problem. I'd appreciate any information on this issue before we invest extra time on a large international site. *In Drupal, there are scenarios where it's all but impossible to avoid having a 301 redirect in your hreflang alternate URL without significant custom work.

301 redirection problem - Major lose of ranking in Google Search results

(site was almost completely removed from google search results) Hello,
I had a website ('DayUse' style) with the following url:
https://www.roomsindex.co.il/ Couple of days ago, I've made a 301 redirection to:
https://www.hour.co.il/ The redirection was made on 2 levels:
1. Server side- on htaccess file.
2. Google Search Console - Change of address page. Bare in mind the following things: The site's structure (url addresses) & the code hasn't changed (for sure). Both redirections are 100% valid (for sure). All the website pages were indexed (for sure). There isn't a penalty on any of the above domains (for sure). The website was almost completely removed from Google search results. For example: Before the redirection the website was ranked 10 in my main keyword "Rooms by hour" (translation from Hebrew), now the website removed. Also, the website removed from almost all the search terms it was ranked before. My question is, off course, WHY???
By the details on the following page, a proper 301 redirection shouldn't cause to such page ranking loss (As I mentioned- It almost completely disappeared)... https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6033049?utm_source=wnc_807001&utm_medium=gamma&utm_campaign=wnc_807001&utm_content=msg_914100&hl=en-IL search-console-change-of-address.png0 -

Alternate Hreflang Problem
We have two travel websites.
International SEO | | Izzet
One in English language for people living in the UK.
One in Turkish language for people living in Turkey. The major difference is:
English (UK) website shows 4+ nights accomodation prices because UK travellers never come for less than 4 nights.
Turkish website shows 1-night, 2-night, 3-night prices because Turkish travellers never stay for more than 3 nights. We are using rel="alternate" hreflang="x" tags properly on our two websites. Today, I am disappointed to see Google display the wrong result. When a user in Turkey searches a Turkish keyword on Google.com.tr;
Google is showing the English language website. When I click on Search Settings > Language;
I see that English is selected under this question:
"Which language should Google products use?" This is a big problem for us.
Many rich users in Turkey, who are more willing to buy our services, speak English fluently and they may choose to use Gmail in English. But we are losing business because these Turkish customers don't convert at all on the Enlish (UK) website because of the reason I explained above. 1) What can we do?
2) If we remove the rel="alternate" hreflang="x" tags now, will it hurt any of the websites?
We have seen an increase in Google rankings for the Turkish language website after using rel="alternate" hreflang="x" tags. Izzet0 -
International hreflang - will this handle duplicate content?
The title says it all - if i have duplicate content on my US and UK website, will adding the hreflang tag help google figure out that they are duplicate for a reason and avoid any penalties?
