Facet Values as Anchor text
-
Hi
I've reviewing our internal linking structure & have found that the facets/filter buttons on a category, are crawled and have anchor text to each link, for example:
The anchor text to filter the product listing results by those under £50 would be:
| Facet Value Less than £50.00 (15) Less than £50.00 (15) |
This also has the source URL & destination URL of http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/lockers
I haven't come across this before - is this an issue?

Hi John,
Thank you for your answer
If I check in search console, we aren't getting more pages indexed than we have on the site. I'll have a read of your article.
I only noticed these in screaming frog. Are there any other checks you think I need to do?

Hi Becky! Thanks for your question!
I wouldn't be so concerned about what that anchor text says as the fact that your filters are being crawled and indexed. This can be a huge duplicate content issue. I wrote about it here a few years ago - http://www.johnfdoherty.com/facets-filters-considerations-ecommerce/
You should investigate if this is causing more pages than you have on your site to be indexed, which can be quite bad for your site's organic traffic. Sounds like you're a pretty good SEO already, so let me know if you need some pointers on doing this!

Do authority brand (business name) anchor text links still drive SEO rankings?
i have a question about links....if you get a link from a really good authority e.g. bbc.co.uk - website but the anchor text for that link is only your business name e.g Moz and not a chosen SEO keyword target..do you still stand to gain in terms of your overall SEO rankings?

Get value out of buying another domain
How do you transfer value from another domain to your domain? Specific scenario: I'm a new startup selling coffee online. A large online coffee retailer just shut it's doors and asked us to bid on its remaining assets, including their domain. It currently receives 20,000 unique visitors organically. If I were to purchase their domain, how would I use this domain to make my site rank better in search engines and drive traffic to my site? Links? 301 redirects? Or would it not really make a significant difference?

SEO value of Articles, Magento vs. Wordpress?
Our e-commerce site is running on the Magento platform while the blog for the site is integrated and is on the Wordpress platform. The blog is not on a separate subdomain, so it is on www.website.con/blog. What I wonder is how Google treats information on a Wordpress blog compared to pages created in the Magento CMS pages. Would a high quality content article posted as a blog post on the Wordpress have a lower SEO value than a page on the Magento? Thanks.

What should my optimal anchor text look like, given cannibalization risk?
We have a content page with the explicit goal of ranking highly for "raised garden beds". We drive traffic from this page to our various types of raised garden beds in our store. The "FarmsteadRaised Garden Bed" is one such product. http://eartheasy.com/grow_raised_beds.htm Should we avoid using "raised garden beds" in the anchor text of the internal links pointing to the products in our store because of cannibalization? We recently changed the anchor text of the internal links to have keywords instead of just "click here" or "more info" - was this a good idea? What should our optimal anchor text look like?

Hidden Text? Part of the game or a major faux pas?
Hey all... I've been doing some competitive analysis lately on different niches in different cities, and upon looking at source code have noticed MANY sites(typically 2-3 of the top listed sites in each niche) who have hidden text, blocked by a box/logo, colored the same as the background, or both. Is this a typical practice? My understanding is Google seriously frowns on this, so is it worth reporting competitors who are doing such things? I don't see any grey areas in this matter and think it's a serious violation, but here these sites are at the top.
