Switching to HTTPS
-
Hey Moz Community!
I am about to switch my website from http to https. I am wondering if I need to create a 301 redirect of every single page on my site, from the http address to the https url? Or if setting one master that redirects all traffic to the https version. Obviously I am concerned about losing rankings by switching.
Code for https redirect of all
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteRule (.*) https://%{SERVER_NAME}/$1 [R,L] -
Appreciate the link. Wondering if you know anything about the code used to redirect all of it in your htcaccess file? I'm glad to hear I don't need to create a hundred redirects, but do want to make sure I am using the correct apache code to do for all.

Hi,
No you should be able to set up a general redirect for every page on your site to its new version on HTTPS. Two weeks ago we made the move with TNW to move to HTTPS. I wrote a blog post about it with a long checklist, check it out: https://thenextweb.com/insider/2017/02/02/marketing-the-tnw-way-18-migrating-to-https/

SEO best practice : HTTP to HTTPS
What's the best practice to switch from an all HTTP site to an all HTTPS site ?
Technical SEO | | Crocodesign
No changes to the site structure, just a full site switch to SSL.
Right now, the site is reachable with HTTP and with HTTPS. http://crocodesign.be --> https://crocodesign.be
http://www.crocodesign.be --> https://crocodesign.be
https://www.crocodesign.be --> https://crocodesign.be CMS : Wordpress 3.9
Server type : Apache
Preferred method : .htaccess0 -
Redirect of https:// to http:// without SSL. Possible or not?!
Good afternoon, smart dudes : ) I am here to ask for your help. I posted this question on google help forum and stackoverflow, but looks like people do not know the correct answer... QUESTION: We used to have a secured site, but recently purchased a separate reservation software that provides SSL (takes clients to a separate secured website) where they can fill out the reservation form. We cancelled our SSL (just think its a waste to pay $100 for securing plain text). Now i have so many links pointing to our secured site and i have no idea how to fix it! How do i redirect https://www.mysite.comto http://www.mysite.com.Also would like to mention that i already have redirect from non www to www domain (not sure if that matters): RewriteEngine onRewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mysite.com$ [NC]RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mysite.com/$1 [R=301,L]As i already mentioned....we do not have SSL!!!! None of those 301 redirect codes i found online work (you have to have SSL for the site to be redirected from https to http | currently i get an error - can't establish a secured connection to the server ). Is there anything i can do???? Or do i have to purchase SSL again?

Https indexed...how?
Hello Moz, Since a while i am struggling with a SEO case: At the moment a https version of a homepage of a client of us is indexed in Google. Thats really strange because the url is redirected to an other website url for three weeks now. And we did everything to make clear to google that he has to index the other url.
Technical SEO | | Searchresult
So we have a few homepage urls A https://www.website.nl
B https://www.websites.nl/category
C http://www.websites.nl/category What we did: Redirected A with a 301 to B, a redirect from A or B to C is difficult because of the security issue with the ssl certificate. We put the right canonical url (VERSION C) on every version of the homepage(A,B) We only put the canonical urls in the sitemap.xml, only version C and uploaded it to Google Webmastertools We changed all important internal links to Version C We also get some valuable external backlinks to Version C Is there something i missed or i forget to say to Google hey look you've got the wrong url indexed, you have to index version C? How is it possible Google still prefers Version A after doing al those changes three weeks a go? I'am really looking forward to your answer. Thanks a lot in advanced! Greetz Djacko0 -
Proper method of consolidating https to http?
A client has an application area of the site (a directory) that has a form and needs to be secured with ssl. The vast majority of the site is static, and does not need to be secured. We have experienced situations where a visitor navigates the site as https which then throws security errors. We want to keep static visitors on http; (and crawlers) and only have visits to the secure area display as ssl. How is this best accomplished? Our developer wants to add a rule to the global configuration file in php that uses a 301 redirect to ensure static pages are accessed as http, and the secure directory is accessed as https. Is the the proper protocol? Are there any SEO considerations we should make? Thanks.

Mobile Theme Switching
Hi - wondering what one should do with a mobile theme in relationship to Google. We are using wordpress and then a plugin that detects whether or not the user is on a mobile device. Should you no-follow the mobile theme since it is effectively the same content as the main site? Or just leave it be and not worry about it. Thanks!

Http and Https Update
Guys, I was just wondering what is the current up-to-date resolution for HTTP and HTTPS, One of my client needs SSL for transaction, and they only need single page to be encrypted(SSLed) , So should I Force SSL that page only and direct entire HTTPS pages to HTTP to avoid duplicate page issue, or would it considered cloaking. It is been long time i did something similar, Or current Search Engines algo can handle it by themselves and i should just leave it . Thanks!

How to proceed with domain switch AND url change
Hi, in a few weeks we'll do a major change on our website. This involves over 1.5 million pages indexed in Google driving substantial amount of our traffic. Basically we have 2 types of changes: subdomain switches to domain:
Technical SEO | | TruvoDirectories
ex. product.company.com will become www.product.com
for this we know how to manage DNS and Apache rules different url patterns, basically replacing ugly urls by pretty urls
for this we have advanced 301-mapping rules set up Here is the question - what is best way to proceed with these 2 changes in order to preserve rankings and organic traffic: Do both changes simultaneously? First do url changes, than the domain switch Can you please share your thoughts?0
