Another website copying our blog content but credit us. Still bad?
-
Hi Moz community,
A few businesses that we work with are asking if they can leverage our content such as blogs by basically copying it and post it on their site. They will give us credit for the content though. My concern is that going to cause duplicate content issue and hurt us with our SEO? We'd like to provide it to them in a way that would benefit us or at least doesn't hurt us. I can think of a few possible options...
1. Have them only copy part of the content and link back to our site with a link "Read the original article" or something similar
2. Have them implement rel=canonical back to our site
3. Have them just copy the whole thing (because it doesn't really hurt us?). In that case, do we have them link back to us or no?
Is there anything I missed? What's the best option for us?
Thank you for the help in advance!

This is a great question that many clients have asked me on several occasions. I really do not like any of the choices you have listed. You still risk duplicate content with option 1 as the teaser will still be mostly word for word then a link. If your content is that good they should produce their own content based on the subject and link to yours. This way they are producing fresh content that gives authority to your content.

Option #1 for sure. This way you get a link and hopefully traffic from them, while they are still able to reference your content.

Hi,
Don't let someone else benefit from content you worked hard to create. If they want to reference it, they can link to that particular piece of content within their own content. So option number one is the best of the 3 you've laid out, I'd be picky about how much of a teaser you allow them to copy though. Give them enough to want to click the link to your site, but not so much that they don't need to click that link.

New blog contributors
For context my website is a content resource portal. In SEO training I have been told that it is a good SEO move to have as many content contributors as possible. As a result we are pushing to recruit new content contributors so they can be listed as new contributors/authors on our site alongside their valuable content. Would this move be good for our SEO rankings and is there anything in particular to consider with this?

Duplicate Content- Archives
Our site is showing duplicate content for about 20 pages, they are all on the site as regular pages and in the "Archive" section. So the URL is different by one word but all the content is the same, is there a way to fix this and make it to where Google doesn't see it as duplicate content? Thanks!

Duplicate content problem
Hi, i have a serious problem. I work in joomla and sometimes it can be annoying. When you set up a category, you need to give it a name and maybe this is a huge error on my part as i did not really think about the names beforehand. The situation i have now is, all my sections are in front page mode, but because you have to name the categories in order to write articles, i am now left with a load of blog sections such as http://www.in2town.co.uk/benidorm/benidorm-news Now i have a main section called Benidorm news so i have duplicate sections, i want to know if i can redirect the http://www.in2town.co.uk/benidorm/benidorm-news to go to the main benidorm section or if there is a better way of doing it. i have left this blod layout the way it is to show you, but the others i just have it where it shows the title and then goes to the article. I work in k2 and would be grateful if anyone can let me know the solution to this as semoz is showing that i have many duplicate titles and content many thanks

Blog Redirect
We have a blog hosted directly on WordPress with a PR of 3. At this point we are moving this blog to our server and incorporating it into our website. I wanted to ask the experts how to go about moving this blog without loosing Page Rank. Is it possible to do a 301 redirect from WP itself? Is there anything that I can do to preserve ranking? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Dmitry

Old articles in a blog
Hi, I would like to know your opinion about old article obsolete in a blog. Do you think it's preferable to totally delete them from Wordpress CMS? Considering the fact that Panda update measures "Bouncing Rate", "Time on site", and all that? Thanks for your opinion and advice! (Sorry if my english is not perfect, 2nd language 😉 )
