Schema for blogs
-
When I run a wordpress blog through the structured data testing tool I see that there is @type hentry. Is this enough for blogs etc? Is this a result of Wordpress adding in this markup?
Do you recommend adding @blogposting type and if so why? What benefit to add a specific type of schema? How does it help in blogging?
Thanks
-
Dan, do you recommend using AMP for the 'in depth' article spots?
-
Thanks Dan. That is interesting about what you say about using the Article Schema as opposed to Blog post one. Also the fact that you have a chance for the "in depth" spots.
Many thanks

Hello! Roman's answers are really good, but thought I would add some info as well.
Article or BlogPosting Schema can help in some of the following ways (vs hentry)
- Give search engines backend / structured info about the contents of the page
- Google's reference on Article schema shows all the snippet and SERP features
- Using article schema is the only way to get into 'in depth' article spots on Google
- I've had luck with Google showing the 'Last Updated' date in search results, which shows a newer date when using it in conjunction with article schema
So even though you'd technically be doing a 'blog post' I would use the parent Article schema as it's more widely recognized.

henry means text entry, it can be a recipe, an article, a blog post is most basic type of schemas. The hEntry schema consists of the following properties:
hentry
entry-title. required. text.
entry-content. optional (see field description). text. []
entry-summary. optional. text.
updated. required using datetime-design-pattern. []
published. optional using datetime-design-pattern.
author. required using hCard. [*]
bookmark (permalink). optional, using rel-bookmark.
tags. optional. keywords or phrases, using rel-tag.If you ask how is structure a paragraph. A logical answer will tell you a paragraphs is formed it by words and letters is the same case here
Is this enough for blogs etc?
I already answer that question (No is not enough)Is this a result of Wordpress adding in this markup?
Wordpress do not markup anything by defaultDo you recommend adding @blogposting type and if so why?
I already answer that question
This the hierarchy of schemas
Thing > CreativeWork > Article > SocialMediaPosting > BlogPostingWhat benefit to add a specific type of schema?
I already answer that questionHow does it help in blogging?

Sorry I wasn't trying to bother you, in fact I was trying to help and apparently you didn't noticed.Sources

Thanks Roman for trying to help. I guess what I was asking is from a Rich Snippets point of view, why bother with specific schema types- what is the difference in the search results to using specific types such as blogposting types versus article types. I understand the difference between articles and blogs and what they represent but why bother using specific schema types? Do they present differently as rich snippets?
-
There is two main type of text content on schemas
An article, such as a news article or piece of investigative report. Newspapers and magazines have articles of many different types and this is intended to cover them all.
blogPost A posting that is part of this blog.
So in theory, an article is like an acedemic document and a blog post is like an informal document, in the real world there's no big difference at least from seo perspective of blog running of wordpress.

Hi,
Thanks. I do see the benefit of schema but my question was about the value of what wordpress adds as @type hentry versus adding in specific types such as @type BlogPosting? What value is adding in specific blog posting types? Is there a difference in the rich snippets?
-
Scheme are a great way to help Google to understand your content, there is no limit of how many information you provide to Google.
The snippets will help you not only with crawler but also with your CTR a good example for that are rating snippet, so when a user see your article the plugin allows to the users to rate your post, and the rating will be visible for users and crawlers
Example. you have a tutorial in your post about SEO, when someone have been looking for a tutorial like your post, before to enter your website google will show to that user the rating of other users for that post. This will impact your CTR and if there are to many people clicking for the specific query probably Google will rank your post in better position even when other post has a better Pagerank or Authority.
Basically for Google your post meet the needs of the users so it deserve a better place
This just an explanation about the utility of schemas in an ideal world, so it will not rank your site but might help.
I always install this plugins on my wordpress websites

Schema markup in tag manager for multiple locations not registering in tester tool or search console
Hi Moz community, I had implemented schema markup for companies with multiple branches. We setup an organization with multiple points of contact tag, a Local Business tag for each branch and tags for specific products/ services - all through Google tag manager. I managed to fix the product markup with a small update to the code I found in a Google forum but have been unable to revive our local business markup. The tags of the schema mark up are active but when I run the Google structured data testing tool it doesn't find any schema tags. We are seeing some of the tags show up in search console but not all of them. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? Or, do you have any recommendations on how to markup an organization with multiple branches? Should we have one overall organization tag and a separate one for each business or is there another way of presenting each branch? Appreciate any insight!

Schema.org product offer with a price range, or multiple offers with single prices?
I'm implementing Schema.org, (JSON-LD), on an eCommerce site. Each product has a few different variations, and these variations can change the price, (think T-shirts, but blue & white cost $5, red is $5.50, and yellow is $6). In my Schema.org markup, (using JSON-LD), in each Product's Offer, I could either have a single Offer with a price range, (minPricd: $5, maxPrice $6), or I could add a separate Offer for each variation, each with its own, correct, price set. Is one of these better than the other? Why? I've been looking at the WooCommerce code and they seem to do the single offer with a price range, but that could be because it's more flexible for a system that's used by millions of people.

Will adding a mini directory to our blog with lots of outgoing no follow links harm our authority and context
We are an adventure travel tour company, who run hiking, kayaking, biking adventures in several countries. We have a travel tour operator website with a blog in a sub folder of the site. We want to add a section/category in the blog itself with a hiking club mini directory, that lists all hiking clubs in 1 or 2 specific countries. The reason we want to do this is because the people searching online for these clubs are our target market and potential clients. We hope to rank for some of these searches, and encourage interest in our blog/website in the process. We also want the potential to build relationships with these clubs. The question I want to ask is: if we add say 100 to 200 listings, and make all outgoing links no follow, will this harm our page authority, reputation with SE's or pose any other risk for our site. The other question is, do you think that this will dilute the context of our content - as its slightly different in context to the rest of our site content. Are we better to set up a separate site for this purpose.

Combining 2 blogs into one. What is quicker, easier and better - rel canonical or an htaccess/ 301?
The objective I have is to archive an entire blog (which I no longer have time to keep up) with multiple posts over 4years , into another blog as a a folder. My question: would it be quicker and easier to do a rel canonical, or separately list all pages in htaccess and do a 301 redirect.

Wordpress site, combine Blog without hurting SEO - Need Expert Advice
Hi, I come from the old html days of Frontpage and then moved to Dreamweaver. I first worked with Wordpress at version 2.7 and was not all that impressed, but then recently I worked in the new version and was extremely impressed. So my knowledge of Wordpress is VERY limited and plan to build future sites with it. I need to know the best way to solve an issue for a customer. The client is http://www.nextgenrestoration.com/ Site was built years ago with Frontpage. The popularity of Blogs was hot so someone told them that if they add new content it would be better to use a blog, so they added a blog. So you have the following: www.nextgenrestoration.com (main site) then they installed wordpress in a folder (blog) www.nextgenrestoration.com/blog Original person that built the site quit. New person took over and said the main site needed to changed to Wordpress because they did not have Frontpage and all they knew was Wordpress. Main site was converted to Wordpress. They wanted to keep the original design so they did not use a stock template, they just built it with their design. I guess from looking at the Editor, they manually went in and put the design in to match. Now.. this last month, the person that had changed

the site to Wordpress quit. So I got involved because the new person they hired could not add content to the main website. If you add a page, it does not show up, you have to manually go in the php and add the link to the category. The new person knows how to use Wordpress but she knows nothing about PHP so is lost when it comes to manually adding content to the site. Here was my Thoughts. The main site needs to be rebuilt in a stock template so it automatically creates new pages, blog posts. I have to make sure that if we change the
main website that we could keep all the same links and page names. The girl
that built the site, if you hover over the links that she put it under ‘florida’,
that must be a category. But we would need to keep the same page names. I know
we could do a 301 redirect but this guy cannot lose traffic. He is already down
in hits after the last Panda update. My thought was, rebuild the main site in a stock template so
someone can actually add content easily to the site. Also build a new blog
section so it all matches. (personally the existing design looks old and dated and needs updating) If you look at the site now. The blog looks totally
different and it is not helping if a customer comes to the blog but cannot see
the navigation for the whole site. My thought was to just leave the old blog, it has a LOT of backlinks. But just add a new blog to the main site and all new content goes there. The old blog would stay just make sure we did build in some call to action so it sends them to the main site. Also, we found we cannot create a Blog on the
wordpress we have installed in the main directory. I am guessing because it
wants to name it /blog? I want to be sure we give this client the best advice on what to do without
hurting his existing seo and traffic. As you can tell, I am not qualified to really give the best advice since I am so new to Wordpress. This is a small company that really needs some help. Thanks in advance for your time! Force70 -
Duplicate Content Caused By Blog Filters
We are getting some duplicate content warnings based on our blog. Canonical URL's can work for some of the pages, but most of the duplicate content is caused by blog posts appearing on more than 1 URL. What is the best way to fix this?
