301 and the base URL
-
Hi, please bear with me as I'm pretty new to all this!
I've my base URL but obviously want to add keywords to it for seo purposes. Should I redirect from the base URL to the URL with the keywords appended? So my landing page goes from say www.moz.com to www.moz.com/keywords-here.
If I do that, should I replicate all the meta data (descriptions etc) on the original landing page? Or does it not matter?
Thanks,
Nick

Thanks Kevin, I'll definitely have a look at those guides.
Yeah, it's the exact same page - the main gateway to the site. It's just that once we started looking at the SEO side of things we realised that we should have keywords in the URL on that page too, and having had the site crawled I realised the original doesn't have all the meta data the redirect does. For example right now the original has no keywords, where as the redirect does.

If you are moving to another domain, the key is to do 301 redirects to the page that closely resembles the original. If none exists, you should 404. The page title should be the same or close to the same as the original (as long as you use best practices --see guides on Moz). Same goes for the meta description (although not directly a ranking factor). The url is extremely important and should be focus on what is on the page (Moz URL guide).

After 301 redirection non-English keyword points to English language pages
We had multilingual website on .co.uk domain and somewhere in April, we've done 301 redirection from domain1.co.uk pages which were in Polish language to domain2.com/pl domain and now for some Polish keywords Google SERP sometimes shows English pages (.com) and sometimes polish pages (.com/pl). Previously co.uk/en had English content and that got redirected to .com. What could be the reason? Thank you for all responses.

301 vs 410
Hello everyone! I'm going through a large list of old 404 links that search console has given me and a lot of these links need to be 301'd. My question is, should I 410 some of these links if I can't find a good place to 301 to? Or is there another thing I should do that is better practice. Thanks!

Brand Name URL Redirecting to Actual URL
So we have already built a site under a parent company's URL: parentcompany.com And now we have their branded product lines in directories: parentcompany.com/brand-name1, and parentcompany.com/brand-name2 We also own the actual URL Brand Name 1 (which is also the exact description of the product): brandname1.com We do not yet own the URL for Brand Name 2 (which is also the exact description of the product): brandname2.com. This is because a squatter is sitting on it and is asking $10,000+ for it. What we are trying to determine is how valuable these brand name URLs are since they will be redirecting and not the actual site's primary domain name. Anybody know how much of an effect owning those and redirecting has on ranking for those brand names that are also very descriptive of the products? Would we be smarter to spend $10,000 on adwords or 10,000 on the domain? Thanks!

Site URL's
We are redeveloping our website, and have the option to amend URLs (with 301 redirects from old URL to new), so my question is: Would 'golfsite.com/golf-clubs' achieve superior rankings than 'golfsite.com/clubs' for the search term 'golf clubs' if all other factors were the same? Should the URL reflect the intended search term wherever possible?
