How i rank in Latin America and Spain?
-
Hi everyone!
I need to rank my site with Spanish content in Latin America and Spain. Do I choose a neutral Spanish to try to rank in every country or make content for each country? If you choose a neutral Spanish, which is the most indicated (Spain, Colombia, Mexico, other)?
-
Hi Ewerton,
I choosed spanish from Spain because I'm from Spain and my clients are from here, and they want better results for Spain than for other countries in Latin America. Some projects with this conditions have ranked well also in many countries in Latin America.
In my opinion you should choose the spanish version of the country in which you prefer better positioning, the one you have. And if you want to rank better in other countries you have to get links from those countries.
I mean, if you want to rank better in Spain, try to get good quality backlinks of your niche that are from Spain, specially those with .es and also .cat (Catalonia domain), but focus specially on .es domains or .com domains that you see that correspond to spanish people.
The same for Mexico but with .mx bakclinks. But with patience, don't build a lot of backlinks together.
Best wishes and good luck!!

I think if you properly implement the hreflang tags then yes you will.

Hi Nigel, thanks for your help.
We already have the domains, using /es/ and a neutral language (spanish from Bogota), but I'm seeing poor results in other countries, like Mexico and Spain.
We have one of the bests blogs in our niche in Brazil (portuguese), but we dont repeat the success in Latin America and Spain, with another domain and spanish content.
PS: we will use hreflang sitemaps soon. Do you think if that will impact positive in our rank?
Cheers!

Hi Pau, thanks for your help.
So, if you need to choose the best language for a Spanish content to rank well in Spain and Latin America, you choose spanish from Spain?
At the moment, we are using a neutral spanish from Colombia (and we dont use hreflang tags yet) and I'm seeing poor results in other countries, like Mexico and Spain...
PS: we will use hreflang sitemaps soon.
Cheers!

Hi Ewerton
You have two choices here.
1. Set up sub-folders for each country eg
website.com/es
webiste.com/co
website.com/mxThen use the hreflang tag on each of the pages to tell Google which language and country you are targetting.
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en
That is OK if you believe there are language variations for each of those countries that would make each variation appeal to them. Particularly useful if you are talking about the countries as well. the hreflang tags will ensure that neither of them variations is regarded as duplicate content. This would allow you to talk about the different countries as well.
EG
You would use x for the default .com which would not be goe-targeted in search console.
2. You could just have the Spanish website as the .com and don't geotarget using sub-folders. Then don't target country in search console. This is if you believe that everyone in all those countries will be happy to view a Spanish version that is not tailored to each country.
These are the only two choices you have because you can't multi-target using hreflang or in search console - it's either specific or not at all.
There is also a great response from Kate Morris here. (ignore all the other bs)Â https://moz.com/community/q/can-you-target-the-same-site-with-multiple-regional-hreflang-entriesÂ
I hope that helps.
Regards
Nigel

Hi Ewerton Silva,
I managed some projects in spanish that needed good rankings in Spain and also in Latin America. I used for them a .com domain and spanish from Spain, it worked well. But I think you can also use spanish from other country like Mexico, I've seen some websites from Latin America countries that rank well in Spain. Maybe you should choose the spanish from the country in which you want to rank better of all.
I would have only one domain and make the same content for all the countries, because there are a lot of countries on latin america and its difficult to create the same but different content to a lot of countries, and you also have to create a backlink campaign for each of them and is a lot of work.
It's better if you focus your efforts on a single web, but try to build backlinks from all the countries in which you are tryin to rank.
Hope that helps!

How do hreflang attributes affect ranking?
We have a site in English. We are considering translating the site into Dutch. If we use a hreflang attribute does that mean we have to create a duplicate page in Dutch for each English page, or does Google auto-translate? How would duplicate pages, even if they are in a different language, affect ranking?

Bad ranking and drops on main keyword
Hi Guy's, I have a question about a website that ranks between SERP 10 - 20 and often drops out of the search results. Looking at authority it should score in atleast in top 10. Netherlands + Belgium - Dutch language
International SEO | | Happy-SEO
https://www.vaneyckshutters.com
Keyword: Shutters (in all languages) Netherlands: SERP 10 - 20 and dropsÂ
Belgium Dutch language: Top 3 positionÂ
Belgium French language: Top 3 position History:
In the past, the website was live on domain extensions: .nl (Dutch) .be (Belgium) Later they switched to .com/nl/  (Netherlands + Belgium - Dutch language) .com/fr/  (Belgium - French language) And finally they swtiched to .com (Netherlands + Belgium - Dutch language) .com/fr/ (Belgium - French language) *All switched where provided with redirects In 2016 Q3 a new website was launched provided with https://, there where some issues with redirects but that's mainly fixed now. After launching the new website the positions where terrible. The website didn't score on the keyword: Shutters, and some times not even on there own brandname. After a while it stabilised but still sometimes the website dropped out of the search results. A few weeks ago we made some technical changes and now we see drops again. Strange things Still we see strange things happening. Mainly the fact that Belgium NL and FR score good, but that could also be because of lower competition. What about the search result: site:vaneyckshutters.nl (indexed) site:vaneyckshutters.be (indexed) i came across this article, and looked at: vaneyckshutters.nl/robots.txt (present) vaneyckshutters.nl/robots.txt (present) Strange that the meta titel is ignored bij Google:
".com" meta title is the same as the indexed ".nl" and ".be" At some point a saw a redirect from the old website to the new:
302 permanent redirect (made me think there was some tweaking going on) I asked a friend if he could provide some SEO advise and gave suggestions: - In the robots.txt is see "disallow:[empy]", is that smart? Canonical on home is set to: "/" but redirect without "/" x-default in alternate is missing Advise Does anyone see the issue or has an advise for us? Maybe we are missing the clues and is something going wrong on: Server/domain level (redirects) Authority level (still some 404's) Technical issues (hreflang) etc. etc. Hope someone can help us out! Thanks a million!0 -
Why Google is not indexing each country/language subfolder on the ranks?
Hi folks, We use Magento 2 for the multi-country shops (its a multistore). The URL: www.avarcas.com The first days Google indexed the proper url in each country: avarcas.com/uk avarcas.com/de ... Some days later, all the countries are just indexing / (the root). I correctly set the subfolders in Webmaster tools. What's happening? Thanks

Duplicate product description ranking problems (off-site duplicate content)
We do business in niche category and not in English language market. We have 2-3 main competitors who use same product information as us. They all do have same duplicate products descriptions as we. We with one competitors have domains with highest authority in this market. They maybe have 10-20% better link profile (when counting linking domains and total links). Problem is that they rank much better with product names then we do (same duplicate product descriptions as we have and almost same level internal optimisation) and they haven't done any extra link building for products. Manufacturers website aren't problem, because these doesn't rank well with product name keywords. Most of our new and some old product go to the Supplemental Results and are shown in "In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the ... already displayed. If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included.". Unique text for products isn't a option. When we have writen unique content for product, then these seem to rank way better. So our questions is what can we do externaly to help our duplicate description product rank better compared to our main competitor withour writing unique text? How important is indexation time? Will it give big advantage to get indexed first? We have thought of using more RSS/bing services to get faster indexation (both site will get products information almost at same time). It seems our competitor get quicker in index then we do. Also are farmpages helpful for getting some quick low value links for new products. We have planed to make 2-3 domains that would have few links pointint to these new products to get little advantage right after products are launched and doesn't have extranl links. Sitemap works and our new product are shown on front pages (products that still mostly doesn't rank well and go to Supplemental Results). Some new product have #1 or top3 raking, but these are only maybe 1/3 that should have top3 rankings. Also we have noticed problem that when we index products quickly (for example Fetch as Google) then these will get good top3 results and then some will get out of rankings (to Supplemental Results).

CDN and the Google ranking?
Does anyone have any experience on the change in the rankings (positive or negative) after a site implemented a content delivery network (CDN) like Akamai or Level 3?

Backlinks that we didnt place, killing our SERP rank and PR
I am in need of advice regarding back links that we did not place, and which are hurting our search engine results. How and why they got there I cannot explain. But they have appeared recently, and are damaging our SERP ranks. For several years, I have been a member with SEOmoz, and we have done our search engine optimization in house. I am the owner of a personal injury law firm, which is a competitive field in search engine optimization. Recently, in the spring, we updated our website, added significant content (over 100 additional pages), we set up a better site structure, and we completed a significant back link campaign from white hat sources. As a result, we were the strongest law firm in search engine results in the state of Arizona, Â Â and the page rank from our home page went from a 4 to 6, and from our next highest level of pages, they went from a 3 to 6. This happened in 10 week period. Our search engine results were fantastic. We were getting a significant amount of business from out Places page and our Organic results. That has almost completely dried up. Approximately 6-8 weeks later, we started having some serious problems. Specifically, our search engine results decreased significantly, our page rank reduced from a six to a four. So we started using SEOmoz tools to see what the problem was, and when we created an open site Explorer report, there are approximately 1000 different links from very shady websites they are now linking to our home page. Â Some of these linking URLs prompt a download to video and other files. Other of the linking are simple on junk sites. Obviously, some other person placed these links. First and foremost I am interested in maintaining the integrity of our site, and if there were a way to remove these links, and protect against that in the future, that is what I want. Secondly, if there were a way to find out who did this, I would like to know that also. What options and/or actions should be taken. I am thinking that I may need to employ a professional/consultant. Will I have to transfer content to another domain? Your thought and help are appreciated. Thanks,
