Webmaster Rankings vs. Moz Rankings
-
Hello all. For quite some time, both Moz & Ahrefs have indicated to me that I am in first position for several keywords. However, when I go into my Google Webmaster Tools, it says that I am in 7th or 8th position.
Any idea why there is such a discrepancy?

Good call on filtering by target country. This gets the rankings a little closer to what Moz & Ahrefs are telling me. Thanks.

This is true, plus (usually) the average rank displayed in Google Search Console (formerly Google Web-Master Tools) is an 'average' ranking position covering a certain time duration (usually 30 days). Since rankings are transient and flux up and down, if there's a day where your result gets booted (temporarily) lower (or out of Google's top 100), obviously that drastically impacts the 'average' position which has its numbers 'thrown out'.

Hi smithcorona,
By default, Search Console will display the global average rank of you keywords, while Moz and Ahrefs will show you rankings for a specific country.
If you choose to only look at the average rank of your target country in Search Console, you should see the results are more closely aligned.
Cheers,
David

How much does Domain Authority effect the keywords I can rank for?
I've been doing some keyword research and i've found a few gems. My site is currently sat at a 18 domain authority up from 12, so it's great to see the improvement. Although I was wondering, if my domain authority is sat a 18, can I compete with keywords that have a difficulty of 50-60? Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂 Sam

Supplementing Moz's Keyword Explorer When Volume Has "No Data?"
Many of the keywords for which I'm trying to find volume information in Moz's Keyword Explorer have "no data." This makes it difficult to determine the value of the keyword compared to other options. What tools / techniques do you use as a stand-in for this data?

Does adding the suffix "-ing" affect ranking for a keyword? E.g. "build" vs "building"
In other words, let's say the keyword I wanted to rank for was "building a home" but the SERP only showed sites ranking for "build a home". If I specifically optimized my page for "building a home" would that increase my chances for ranking for "building a home"?

Can't get ranking history
Hi everyone. I have added a couple of keywords to one of my campaigns and everytime I try to check the rankings I get the message below... Whoa! We're dusting off the cobwebs from your keyword history. Don't worry, your data is fine. Check back soon to see your updates. Any idea what's going on here or how long it'll take to get this info? Thanks.

Do the search engines kind of test you out at a higher ranking for a short period of time?
I ranked very well for my keywords. They are not competitive. Nonetheless, I got convertible traffic to my blog. Suddenly, I run a search for the keywords and there is this other website ranking higher than me. it seems to be a new website. No data on opensiteexplorer. So, the only thing that I can conclude and which I've been thinking that google does is to test new webpages out for a bit higher up on the rankings. If the bounces are lower than average, then I suspect that they will give you better rankings in the future. Is this somewhat how it works?

Logging out of Google vs. &PWS=0 ?
I typically append &pws=0 to my Google queries when I'm gathering results to share with a client. I recently sat in on another digital marketing firms presentation to the client, and they made a big deal about how their search engineers had conducted all the searched by "painstaking logging out of google, using a fresh browser, etc..." In my mind I was thinking that it was either a search engineer wasting time, or some hyperbole to impress the client. But I didn't really know for sure. Is &pws=0 actually equivellent to using a completely annonymous browser. For fun, I ran some queries under incognito on chrome running off a thumbdrive, and compared them to &PWS=0 results from my everday browswer while logged into google. I couldn't see any difference, but in my quick informal test, I also didn't find any difference between a personal SERP and a &PWS=0 SERP, so maybe I just didn't try the right query. Any thoughts?
