We setup a new Google Analytics account for the new domain but the old one is still there
-
Hi,
Our company has changed their domain almost a year ago and after the migration, they created a new Google Analytics account rather than changing the address on the existing GA account. Now I can still see that Google indexing the old domain. Just wanted to ask if we can still tell Google that we've changed the domain on the old one? Or, should we just go ahead and use the new one and delete the old one?
Very confusing, but our traffic is constantly dropping although we rank for on the first page for tracked keywords, just want to understand if there is a connection between the organic traffic droppings and not telling Google we've changed the domain.
Thanks!

Hi,
Thank you for the answer Martjin.
To be honest, we've done a full audit and we realised that around the migration, redirects weren't configured right, we had broken and out-dated pages and many more. After the full audit, our rankings have recovered, actually, we started to rank much better when you compare to our old good days. Somehow, our organic traffic is dropping every day and we can't understand what should be causing this issue. Very frustrating.
Anyways, thanks again for the explanation. At least we know that GA account is not the case.

Hi,
I'm sorry to say, but there is no connection whatsoever between data (or settings) in Google Analytics and how you're ranking. So changing the settings on your Google Analytics account or changing the domain name in the settings wouldn't impact your rankings (at all!). I'd likely try to find the cure for what you're trying to accomplish somewhere else. Are there any other changes that you've made and is there anything that you've done around the migration of the domains that could have gone wrong?

Google Analytics direct traffic dropped by 50% after switching to https
Hi, everyone, have a little dilemma and was hoping to get some advice here. I recently installed a new SSL (3 months ago) to force our URL to start with https://. The site was earlier accessible through https:// and http:// prefix however now I have made it so that all urls are redirected to the correct https:// version. The problem is that direct traffic has dropped by more than 50% after implementing these changes and I can for the life of me figure out why. Why would the direct traffic drop all of sudden after making these changes? I am starting to suspect that the earlier data was inflated and that Google analytics was counting users coming from a http:// version of the URL to a https:// version of the URL was counted as direct traffic. Could that be it? Any other possible causes? Would really appreciate any guidance on this problem. Thanks

Splitting Google analytics data
Hi Everyone I'm not sure if this can be done but thought i would ask anyway. One of our clients has a website which is a 3 tiered website, basically this means different access levels for different users depending on their ip address. The split is as follows (business 1, business 2 and the general public all see different things and areas within the website) Now what we are wanting to do is essentially split our analytics data for each of the 3 different users on the site, Can this be done through Google analytics? Thanks in advance. ps If im not clear enough let me know and ill try clear it up

How to Access Keywords in Old Adword Account
Where can the keywords that go with a specific ad be found in Google adwords? Right now the only keywords we can find are all the collective keywords used across the 10 ads in the campaign. We need to which individual keywords are associated with each ad. Is that information available, and if so, where? Appreciate your input. David

Tracking in Google Analytics
My site has just recently (or maybe not so recently...) had a great deal of https URL's indexed (I was really only able to find this out thanks to the recent update to the GWT Index Status). It appears that Googlebot picked up an ssl somewhere (I already know where) on my site and then proceeded to crawl and index pages with https rather than http. Since I understand the issue, it should be an easy fix. My question is, does Google Analytics support (track) both http AND https for one site, or would I need to set up two different tracking codes for http and https? I figured that I might as well grab some data from the https pages that are indexed before I try and remove them. I've done a little research on using Groupings/Groups but I figured I would reach out to the MOZ community to see if anyone else has worked with a similar issue. Thanks!

Google analytics question
Ok so in my traffic sources break down I have 3 sections: direct, organic, and referral. My question is under the referral tab I have recently noticed a new traffic source, my own website.... How is this possible? My top referring site is my own website.... Is this considered direct traffic or how is this being traced?

Google Links Disavow - Does that preclude new links from a domain?
If using Google disavow links tool and you disavow links from a 'domain' does that mean that any 'future or new links' from that domain will be blocked? Answer Yes is good if the domain is spammy but bad if the domain was submitted in error ........ Answer NO is good if the domain was submitted in error but bad if the site is spammy. Does anyone have an answer to this please? Also is there a disavow 'undo' request process available? cheers, Mike

Google Analytics - Intelligence Custom Alerts
When you add an intelligence custom alert does it look at the history and backdate issues? I've added a few custom alerts, even basic ones like my homepage gets 5 views, create an alert. I either need to wait a day or something is going wrong. Cheers.
