Site Title When Your Domain name is the keyword
-
Hello,
I've been struggling with an issue for years. I own UsedCubicles.com. I'm ranked very well, the site generates leads and income on a regular basis. However, I never know what to name the site on the home page. The main keyword I go after is obviously "Used Cubicles". I also have product category named "Used Cubicles". I know google doesn't recognize my Used Cubicles product category as conical and reverts to the home page. I would rather Google use my categories more effectively to rank content or pages.
My current site title on the home page is NOT GOOD. Used Cubicles | Usedcubicles.com. Im nervous to change it, however because Im not sure if its helping me rank for the keyword, which I do. For years I was #1 across the country but lately its been dropping.
Any advice is appreciated.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the input. I have made significant adjustments to the design of the home page, adding text content etc. I have noticed my competitors rank for my keywords from their category pages and the category pages I have that rank, rank really well. My issue is coming from certain categories not ranking, instead, google uses my home page. Specifically these categories.
https://usedcubicles.com/product-category/used-office-furniture/
https://usedcubicles.com/product-category/used-cubicles/
I want google to use my category instead of the home page to rank. I have no clue how to fix this. I have added links, content to the categories, changed the home page so its not so similar to the category itself. Google has marked those categories as conical but they just dont rank for the obvious keyword (H1).
Also, please take a look at the new design of the product pages. The intention was to provide more information about each product not only to increase conversions but to decrease bounce rate. So far, we have seen a 15% increase in conversions.

The only thing I can think thats holding my categories back is backlinks to the category URL'S

Hello, In my opinion, adding some relevant contents ( I mean text contents ) to your category is the best way to rank your specific category page. however, you can link to your specific category from the top of your home page, with "Used Cubicles" anchor text for a limited time, for example, 2 months.

Hi Ross,
thats very helpful, thank you. In the past, I've always thought adding products to the home page helps with SEO and increases conversions. I've actually seen this work many times via hotjar over the years. However, more and more companies are switching to show product categories on the home page instead of products. I think this would help make some of my other categories rank better and be shown as conical. Long story short, I think having that many products on the home page is affecting my category rankings. It's always risky business making massive changes to the home page, especially when its the page that ranks the best.
Another thing I recently did to help ranks is up date my products. Some of the products were posted years ago, I changed some of the content and moved the post date forward in time. Hopefully that has an affect as well.
Also, back to our first conversation, Im beginning to go after the keyword "Used Office Furniture". :).
I had briefly changed my site title on the home page to reflect this, that keyword is much more powerful than Used Cubicles. For now, I think Ill let my category of used office furniture bake for a bit.
Thanks,
Grant

Hi there,
I would only keep "Used Cubicles" as your Title since you have an exact match domain. Upon checking your competitors, I see that your competitor has more text on his inner page, you must expand your content on your home to outrank. The rule of thumb is to have 20-30% more text than your competitor. In addition to that, you might need to build more exact match anchor texts to the home page.

Redirection of 100 domain to Main domain affects SEO?
Hi guys, An email software vendor managed by a different area of my company redirected 100 domains used for unsolicited email campaigns to my main domain. These domains are very likely to get blacklisted at some point. My SEO tool now is showing me all those domains as "linking" to my main site as do-follow links. The vendor states that this will not affect my main domain/website in any way. I'm highly concerned. I would appreciate your professional opinion about this. Thanks!!

Why is my landing page title tag being applied to the entire site?
I have a unique title tag for every page on my site but depending on what page a user lands on, that title becomes the title tag for the entire site. For example, if you come in from SERPs via the "Zach King: My Magical Life" page, the title "Zach King: My Magical Life" title will be applied to every page on the site even though they have unique title tags. This is the site: https://www.shelfstuff.com/book-shelf. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Multiple Keywords for a site
I have a client that is OBSESSED with KWP ranking (don't go there...I know) This client offers multiple services, dog boarding, dog grooming, dog training, dog daycare and dog walking. Essentially these are our focus. She ranks on page one for all of these words (locally of course) BUT she wants to rank in positions 1 and 2 for all of these words. Here's my rub, with her limited budget, we focus on 1 word (and associated long tails like "dog boarding in the south loop) and it takes a couple of months to zoom up to positions 1 or 2 (not counting map pack....she wants ORGANIC) While we're focusing on this 1 word, the others maintain their ranking or slip a few spots (like from 6 to 😎 Conversions average about about 1 a day, organic traffic is roughly 1000 hits a month. In your opinion is it better to split this focus between the 5 target words every month, more slowly building ranking, but maintaining it for longer periods of time. Or do it the way we have been chase dog boarding, then chase training, and so on. It just seems like we are CONSTANTLY chasing something while something else falls. Thanks Tracy

When migrating website platforms but keeping the domain name how best do we add the new site to google webmaster tools? Best redirect practices?
We are moving from BigCommerce to Shopify but maintaining our domain name and need to make sure that all links redirect to their corresponding links. We understand the nature of 301s and are fine with that, but when it comes to adding the site to google webmaster tools, not losing link juice and the change of address tool we are kind of lost. Any advice would be most welcome. Thank you so much in advance!

Are there diminishing returns of keyword stuffing domain names?
Aside from the obvious usability issue of having a super long domain name. Let's just for a moment image that that doesn't matter at all. Is there a point at which having another keyword in your domain name is not giving a significant boost to SER? Lets be more specific. Often we see two keyword domains, and they rank well. and I have also seen many 3 keyword domains raking well. but what about a 4, 5 or 6 keyword domain name? like: keyword1keyword2keyword3keyword4keyword4keyword6.com <-- obviously it looks ridiculous, but we are ignoring that factor for the duration of this question. I would also like to know in multiple keyword domain names, does the location of the keywords have any relevance? is it like title tags? closer to the front = more boost? And furthermore one last question on the same subject. Does google consider varations of words when it gives the boost to "exact match" domain name in search results. for example: BookStory.com V.S. BookStories.com when someone searches for "story books" would these two get the same bonus?

Changing domain extension to detoxify a domain
Hi there, A linkbuilding company that has been building links for us has not gained any sustained results. They have advised that our domain may be toxic, and that we should consider permanent redirecting from .co.uk to another domain extension in order to remedy this. Is this a recommendation worth considering?
