Should an international school have subdomains for each school in a different country?
-
I understand a lot of people in the SEO world think that everything should be under one site, but if a European school wants to expand its presence in the USA, the current domain authority is 30/100 for the European website. The school is thinking of opening another school in the USA, should they just create a subdomain on the same European site or have a new site for the USA because it's better for the branding?
Any SEO experts can chime in here? -
Although having subdomains for each school in a different country may seem efficient, it can create logistical challenges in terms of maintenance and coordination. Consolidating into a single domain creates a sense of unity and simplifies management. However, localized content and unique branding may require separate subdomains to target different audiences effectively. Ultimately, the decision must be aligned with the school's strategic goals and the needs of the international community.

In fact, I do not recommend using subdomains in terms of SEO. Using subfolders with a well-thought-out site hierarchy will benefit you more. You can get much better results in terms of organic visibility.

That's tricky, but perhaps a subdomain would be better off in terms of on-page and off-page SEO. However, maybe listing your website with online directories will provide your website (and its subdomains) with better visibility and will reach your goals. I know there's a platform, which is a digital directory that's doing quite good with the US audience - https://world-schools.com

Are Wildcard Subdomain Hurting my SEO?
I have some sites with a lot of categories (category, sub-category, sub-subcategory) and locations (country, state/territory, city). To avoid listing pages really deep in my hierarchy I used wildcard subdomains for the locations, but lately I have been told that might be hurting my overall SEO efforts. I have a lot of URLs like https://city-state-country.example.com on one side of the domain and example.com/category/subcategory/subsubcategory on the other. In the middle you see stuff like city-state-country.example.com/category/subcategory/subsubcategory and everything in between. Would I be better off moving the locations to the right side of the domain name? Then you might find stuff like example.com/country/state/city/category/subcategory/subsubcategory and everything in between. I think I could do the new rewrite rules fairly easily since every country slug is just two characters long.

"Google-selected canonical different to user-declared" - issues
Hi Moz! We are having issues on a number of our international sites where Google is choosing our page 2 of a category as the canonical over page 1. Example; https://www.yoursclothing.de/kleider-grosse-groessen (Image attached). We currently use infinite loading, however when javascript is disabled we have a text link to page 2 which is done via a query string of '?filter=true&view=X&categoryid=X&page=2' Page 2 is blocked via robots.txt and has a canonical pointing at page 1. Due to Google selecting page 2 as the canonical, the page is no longer ranking. For the main keyphrase a subcategory page is ranking poorly. LqDO0qr

Does having a \ on a URL make a difference?
On our website we have CMS pages which end normally without a /. However when linking from web banners e.c.t it always adds a / on the end. Will this have a negative impact on SEO?

Internal linking structure
howdy SEO moz people, I had a quick question about internal linking. I am using the WP platform for my website and on one of the widgets I have a category widget that shows all the pages, (on every page). I wanted to know that when if i make a new post or page does it matter if the internal anchor texts are on the content itself or is it suffice to have it on the side bar within the widget? Basically what im asking is does it matter if i have anchor text links on the content itself or is it ok to have it anywhere on the page. and if it does matter to have it on the content, please help out on any suggestions on where to place them. thanks

Internal links
Hi, I am working on a project with very few really important pages - its now about 20 pages and this number will not increase to more than 30 by the end of the year. Today the majority of these Pages is 2 clicks away from the Homepage for navigational reasons. Now I am wondering: 1. If I should set links from the Homepage directly to these Pages to pass more juice?

Passing value in a subdomain
Hi guys, I am planning of setting up a blog within a client's website, due to limitations to their server environment, I can only setup the blog in a subdomain, I have read in some articles saying subdomains don't pass value as well as subfolders. My questions are: Is it true that subdomains can't pass SEO value? For example, if I set up a blog (say blog.mydomain.com), will that improve long tail searches for my website (mydomain.com)? What are some recommendations for subdomains so that it passes more value back to the root domain (for example, internal linking from subdomain back to root domain) Thanks guys.
