3 month intern plan, thoughts/opinions appreciated
-
Just looking for some opinions here. I'll be hiring a summer intern to help with marketing, spreading the word, and link building.
Just wanted to get some feedback on what I'm thinking of having them do.
1. Run back link checks on all competitor websites and ask the owner/webmaster if they'd consider linking to us.
2. Directory submit to any relative directories that pass link juice.
3. Find relevant websites or forums and ask for links, run broken link checker while on their site as well. Maybe offer their audience some sort of freebee or special product/e-book.
4. Create hang outs on Google +, groups on Linkedin.com, Quora etc. Follow relevant Twitter followers and post content regularly.
Trying to think of a few other things as well. Looking forward to your opinions. Thanks.

Consider having him/her produce some content for you as well. It's easier to get links if you have some good content for them to link to.

Can I filter the results of an user comparison by language/country?
Is it possible to filter the follower list after comparing the followers of 2 twitter accounts? E.g comparing Twitter acc. A and B, select followers of both, receive follower list --> no language/country filter available. Any chance?

Are links between a subdomain and a root domain internal or external?
We have a microsite on a subdomain that is kind of a community site that has articles posted to it several times per week. The articles are often relevant to topics covered on the root domain, so links are often included. My question is, are links between the subdomain and root domain considered internal or external? Also, how much of a difference does the location of the links make? For example, if we have a related links menu with links to the root domain is that good enough, or is it that much better to have the links embedded in the article text (toward the beginning of the article)?

Infographic/Link Bait idea. Unrelated to my site though, suggestions?
Question, been thinking of some link bait infographic ideas for my site www.jobshadow.com I've got a couple in the careers/job niche but the one I think would be best is completely unrelated. I study free market economics a lot and want to debunk the whole 'deflation' debate that is on the news these days. The overall gist would be to do so with a history of Apple products showing why falling prices aren't anything to be afraid of. Given that it's econ/techie related(even non econ people would find this graphic neat I think) and not specific to the 'career hunting' and job searching my site is I'm curious what people suggest. Give it a shot and release on our blog anyway? Or trade it to someone else in a more relative niche(assuming the graphic gets built, I know ideas are relatively cheap:).

You have a limited budget of $2,000 (US). Do you buy links or create / seed content?
We have a client who is being told by their incumbent supplier that they should renew their annual contract to buy links on 4 domains by their incumbent SEO agency. It will cost approximately $2,000. We are recommending they produce decent content, like a video, an infographic based on data that is exclusively theirs and seed this with bloggers / real world publications / trade press / etc. The client is struggling to make a decision because he's caught between two SEO's with different approaches. He doesn't have the budget for both. He's scared of losing his position in the SERPs. So, I said I'd get some votes from other SEO's. Which would you recommend? Option 1 1,000's of links on 4 domains Option 2 Create link bait Seed using social media GO!

Thoughts on Google+ influence on SERPs?
I just read this article over on Read Write Web: http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/google_is_going_to_mess_up_the_internet.php The part that made me raise an eyebrow is in the section "Google+ Hates the Internet". I just tested the exact term the author used and his article does show up first, followed by two G+ listings. I don't have enough action going on in my G+ accounts to even test this, let alone see it, but was wondering if anyone else has seen it or tested it? Perhaps this in fact, is Google's way of using "social proof" to drive valuable content up? Seems like it, which is good. However, I can also see how it can be abused to further game and manipulate SERPs. Thoughts?

Face Book..your thoughts on promoting on main web site
Moz Community, I would like Facebook promotion opinions. I have a local business (Seattle painting contractor) and have built a fan page which engages our clients, local & national suppliers, friends and other contractors. Our original intent was to use the fan page to promote our main website; we never added a prominent "like us" button on our main page, we did not want to convert for facebook when our best content was on our site. I have been pleasantly surprised this past year how many fans we have accumulated by promotion and by accident. The main benefit has been rewarding engagement from other industry marketers such as Benjamin Moore paint company, and introductions to local design professionals..and these conversations once started continue by direct communication (email..phone). I have just added a facebook link on my blog..see attached picture Join our 2500+ fans. Primarily because the visitors to the blog tend to be the sort that engage on Facebook vs the type that want a painting contractor (Google analytics traffic data and click through behavior). I now have more traffic to the blog than the front end site. What do you think of the button? What else should be promoting?
