City Gird.... Have you heard of it? Do you like it?
-
Has anyone use the City Grid software/ network to boost your local online presence? If so, what are your thoughts on it ? Did you get good enough results that would justify the investments? All comments and opinions are welcome. We are trying to weigh our options...

Generally, my opinion for most small businesses is that ad networks like CityGrid are not the highest-and-best use of their advertising dollars. However, if it's a new business, or one that has a lot of listing consistency issues, CityGrid can be worth an investment to try to clean up this information quickly.
Without knowing more specifics about this case, my generic advice would be to stick to Facebook ads or exact-match long-tail Google Adwords.

Thanks for posting this question. I found them the other day and thought their business model was a lot like getlocal.org
I actually talked to one of their reps and told them I was familiar with their competitor (getlocal), the rep had no idea who getlocal.ord was...It kind of made me feel like they are more interested in getting my money than educating their salespeople about their brand and value proposition. I also questioned the rep and asked why their system was showing that our business wasn't listed in the Yahoo Directory when I know full well that it is. He didn't really have a good answer for that, other than to say maybe we weren't categorized properly, but we are categorized properly. So, right off the bat I was a little skeptical.
It would be great to hear others' eperiences, especially since the CityGrid rep has been calling me every single day asking me if I'm ready to commit yet.
I'm very interested to know what other folks here have to say. FYI - The base CityGrid subscription is $500/year...but that doesn't include the cost of getting listed in some paid directories (like Yahoo) or getting enhanced listings at places like Manta.

Do review sites like consumer affairs negatively affect SERPs?
Hey all, So when googling the name of our site we see consumer affairs pop up around 5th with a 1 star rating. These negative reviews are mostly spammy (competitors, etc.) since we have an awesome support team that deals with all unhappy members very effectively. We reached out to CA and they came back asking for $10k+ (highway robbery) to "help us improve our rating." My question is: do poor ratings on review sites like these negatively affect your SERPs? And if so, how can we work to combat their effect? Thanks in advance, Roman

Getting citations from different cities for a travelling band
Hi mozzers! i play in a band that is based in Austin, TX but travels to all cities across texas. I've been told i need to have citations in place to help my organic rankings in the cities across Texas that i perform in. 1. What are the best ways to get citations to rank locally in each city for my band? i have a page set up on my website for each city that we perform in. Do i set up accounts on local business directories in each city that i perform in with a link to that city page on my site? I have performers that i hire in each city and can use their address for the local address on each business listing but my business phone number would be the same for all cities. I don't want this to look black hat to google by filling out business listings for many different cities with the same phone humber but my customers are in fact in all these major cities almost more than in my home town. 2. Since i can only fill out a google places page for my home city, what other ways can i get citations to help my organic rankings in all the cities that i perform in? Thanks in advance for everyone's input! Ron

Are there any companies out there that can do Search Retargeting on a local level? I'd like to target a Metro area, or even a large city.

Social Media Icons for trust - have link land them on a social media page or have them stay on the page with like, tweet, +,etc?
An interesting question arises out of a conversation with one of my team. We were talking about FB pages in particular regarding a client and I am for icons that allow for trust without leaving the client's site page (I am from a direct marketing background originally and am against sending them somewhere else). She was pointing out that we had a client who has a FB page and we were not sending them to that page. I explained how I do not like to gain a bit of trust by sending them off site because it is the opportunity to lose a conversion by them becoming distracted. I also thought of a client who has over 100,000 likes, shares, etc. and who still is in the direct sales business at the end of the day; were they better off with a prospective client/customer to send them to their FB page/Twitter page, etc. or should they stay on the commercial site? I still believe that in the bricks and mortar world, I would not have a customer who came in to buy/look at a TV first go down the street to a social club for people who liked my company and then hope they come back and buy. Also, is there an opportunity to close a sale that would not have been closed by virtue of sending them away or to increase the size of the sale (remember, this must be such a sale increase or probability of sale increase as to outweigh the risk of loss of a client who would have bought)? I look forward to your assistance.

Facebook Like my website or fan page??
Should I want people facebook liking my website or my fan page? Is there a way to link the two? Here is my dilemma... People liking my website will obviously have an effect on rankings within bing and google possibly. BUT - People liking my fan page will allow me to engage with them in the future about givaways, sales and so on. I'm stuck, is there a way to link these? Or if not, which do you recommend?
