Why Is The Wrong Page Ranking?
-
In the past two weeks, I've seen some movement in ranking for "Tampa Personal Injury Attorney." The problem is that this page: http://www.kempruge.com/personal-injury/ is the one that's ranking and not this page: http://www.kempruge.com/location/tampa/tampa-personal-injury-legal-attorneys/ which is the one I've been working on.
Also, the former page has made it to page 4 (not great) but better than 7, which is what the latter page was. In addition, the latter page now doesn't rank at all (or at least not in the first 16 pages).
Finally, according to Moz, the latter page (the one that no longer ranks) is my second best page after my homepage. I just don't understand this at all. Is this a fluke? Should I just try to work on the page that's ranking higher over the page I've put the time into?
Thanks,
Ruben

I agree with both of the excellent comments above, with one exception, I don't think adding more text to your page will help your SEO in this case. More content? Sure. But that doesn't necessarily mean more text. How about an original video? How about a video that's share-worthy? I particularly agree that you need to pursue more social shares on the page you want to rank. In our own testing we have seen significant upward moves on pages/keywords that received 100 or more social shares. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Lets Compare both pages
1. http://www.kempruge.com/personal-injury/
- I agree with NBG, More content can be more handy But still we make it satisfactory
- Localities link seriously making things odd a bit
- Nicely interlinked with other inner pages
- 20 Back-links, 11 Referring Pages, 3 Referring Domains, 2 Facebook Shares, 1 Facebook Like, 95% Non Money Anchors. Have a look: http://screencast.com/t/utxgv54Ckf
2. http://www.kempruge.com/location/tampa/tampa-personal-injury-legal-attorneys/
- Tamp is stuffed 18 times on your page. This is high level of keyword stuffing. You need to fix it asap: http://screencast.com/t/wxoXvOpdFq
- Meta Description don't have tampa.
- 14 Back-links, 14 Referring Pages, 6 Referring Domains, No Social Sharing at all
- Around 80% Money Anchors: http://screencast.com/t/NKKXsm2BPXC
Few Comments
- Definitely, this is better page: http://www.kempruge.com/location/tampa/tampa-personal-injury-legal-attorneys/ to rank your keyword
- I love to see Tampa in Meta Description. Current Meta Description "Were you personally injured and have questions? At Kemp & Ruge Law Group, we employ the most knowledgeable attorneys to assist our clients."
- Keyword Stuffing has to be fixed immediately
- If you can add more content, Google gonna love it
- Remove footer localities links
- If you are still trying to build money anchor and try to make it rank, this is absolutely not wise. Penguin 2.1 was a check against Money Anchors. Use random anchors
- Try to share this page on Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter using tags. Google love these things
I hope this will help!

It sounds like google is giving juice to your domain for the inbound links but google's algorithm values the other page more. Both pages seem a bit short and generic to me. Admittedly I'm not a content expert but I would think a little more original text would help. Also the links to all the different localities at the bottom of your target page feels spamy to me. I know it's not actually spam but it feels icky that you have essentially a paragraph of anchor texts with 20 something links.
Best of luck,
-Nick

Does the more number of ranking pages improve the website ranking?
Hi all, Let's say there is a website with 100 pages ad 95 pages are not ranking for any keywords; but the other 5 pages including homepage are ranking for some keywords. In this scenario, the 95% non-ranking pages does impact the other 5% pages rankings? Or every page holds their credibility in ranking irrespective of other pages in website? Thanks

Have AMP pages on Chrome disappeared?
Hi, We amplified our site the other day and Google was quick to find our AMP pages. Today, we can´t seem to find any AMP pages on Chrome and it looks like we can´t find any other pages from sites like Wapo and so forth. They´re still visible on Safari. We are searching from Iceland. Is anyone experiencing this and if so, could you please share a link to the news? Thanks and have a nice day!

More pages or less pages for best SEO practices?
Hi all, I would like to know the community's opinion on this. A website with more pages or less pages will rank better? Websites with more pages have an advantage of more landing pages for targeted keywords. Less pages will have advantage of holding up page rank with limited pages which might impact in better ranking of pages. I know this is highly dependent. I mean to get answers for an ideal website. Thanks,

Does it matter? 404 v.s. 302 > Page Not Found
Hey Mozers, What are your thoughts of this situation i'm stuck in all inputs welcome 🙂 I am in the middle of this massive domain migration to a new server. Also we are going to be having a very clean SEO friendly url structure. While I was doing some parsing and cleaning up some old urls I stumbled upon a strange situation on my website. I have a bunch of "dead pages" and they are 302'd to a "page not found" probably a old mistake of one of the past developers. (To clarify the HTTP Status code is not 404) Should I try to fight to get all these "dead pages" a 404 error code or could I just leave the temp redirect 302 > "page not found" ( even though I know for a fact theses pages are not going to turn on again)

Do we take a SEO hit for having multiple URLs on an infinite scroll page vs a site with many pages/URLs. If we do take a hit, quantify the hit we would suffer.
We are redesigning a preschool website which has over 100 pages. We are looking at 2 options and want to make sure we meet the best user experience and SEO. Option 1 is to condense the site into perhaps 10 pages and window shade the content. For instance, on the curriculum page there would be an overview and each age group program would open via window shade. Option 2 is to have an overview and then each age program links to its own page. Do we lose out on SEO if there are not unique URLS? Or is there a way using metatags or other programming to have the same effect?

Home page rank for keyword
Hi Mozers I have traded from my website balloon.co.uk for over 10 years. For a long while the site ranked first for the word 'balloon' across the UK on google.co.uk (first out of 41 million). Around the time Penguin launched the site began to drop and currently sits on about page 5. What's confusing is that for a search on 'balloons' ('s' on the end of balloon) it ranks 2nd in the location of Birmingham where I'm based. That's 2nd in the real search rather than a map local search. But - if I search 'balloon' from the location of Birmingham my contact page ranks 5th: http://www.balloon.co.uk/contact.htm but the home page ranks nowhere. So - it's gone from ranking 1st nationally to ranking nowhere with my contact page ranking above the home page (which is a generic word domain). Any ideas?

Not sure whether to update existing page or create a new one
Hello guys, So far I have found this Q&A to be very helpful. I have a couple of product pages on my website which rank very low in the search results. This was because in the past they were not at all optimized in terms of title, description, etc. I would like to now optimize these pages, get some inbound links to them, etc. I'm not sure whether to do this with the existing product pages or create new ones. I'm afraid that if I optimize the current pages, the low ranking from before will carry over. Would it be better to start fresh? Thank you, Pravin

After optimising for SEO my ranking went down...
Hello, My website was ranking for over 100 keywords but was not really optimised properly. For example, the page title was much too long, it was segmented like this: "keyword - Category - domain " I followed recommandations in SEOMOZ and I removed the domain and category from the long page titles to only leave the keyword and updated the H1 to reflect also the keyword. We dropped in ranking since even though we did not change anything, only made things more SEO optimised. I don't understand how it made us drop in ranking?? David
