Duplicate content on events site
-
I have an event website and for every day the event occurs the event has a page.
For example: The Oktoberfest in Germany the event takes 16 days. My site would have 16 (almost)identical pages about the Oktoberfest(same text, adres, photos, contact info). The only difference between the pages is the date mentioned on the page. I use rich snippets.
How does google treat my pages and what is the best practice.

Hi,
I would use a canonical tag and point to the first page of the event to make sure you don't get into any issues with duplicate content. I think it has some value for a user to have all the 16 pages online but for Google it's pretty useless to leave them out there and also notify them that they all exist. Using a canonical will 'merge' them a bit into one.

If I were Google or even a website visitor, I would ask: Why does every single day of the event need its own page in the first place? It would seem frustrating from both search engine and user standpoints. The website should first and foremost be created with the user experience in mind.
I'm guessing that the answer is that each day will have its own set of event photos. (One page for January 1 photos, one for January 2 photos, and so on -- whenever the dates are.) But that's redundant -- needlessly repetitive, in other words. At most, I would probably place each year in a subfolder -- home.com/2012, home.com/2013, and home.com/2014 and so on. Then each year's subfolder would just have further subfolders each for photos, information, and so on.
Don't make it needlessly complicated. I'm guessing you're trying to get traffic from each specific day from this method, but you most likely don't need to do that. It will just appear to have too much needless duplication both for users and search engines.
If I'm missing something, let me know and I'll reply further!

Would you consider this to be thin content
I always struggle with these pages I have on my site going back and forth debating what I want to do with them. On one side Google was content, yet at the same time its all about user experience. http://www.freescrabbledictionary.com/word-lists/words-that-start-with/letter/h/ I used to have all my words listed on one page which could have been well over 10,000. Now I pagination them as you can see. I debate writing a header of content for these pages, but honestly users just want the words. Get in, get what you need and get out. What is the recommendation on these pages. Should I write content? Should I not?

Duplicate Page Content
Hi, I am new to the MOZ Pro community. I got the below message for many of my pages. We have a video site so all content in the page except the video link would be different. How can i handle such pages. Can we place adsense AD's on these pages? Duplicate Page Content Code and content on this page looks similar or identical to code and content on other pages on your site. Search engines may not know which pages are best to include in their index and rankings. Common fixes for this issue include 301 redirects, using the rel=canonical tag, and using the Parameter handling tool in Google Webmaster Central. For more information on duplicate content, visit http://moz.com/learn/seo/duplicate-content. Please help me to know how to handle this.. Regards

Duplicate content affects on overall rankings
Hi guys, I have a website that has 23 pages with duplicate content. These pages serve the same function, which enables customers to upload their images. There is not much content on each one but we require a different page for each of our products, here is an example page: http://www.point101.com/giclee_printing/upload#/upload I don't think it makes sense to use a canonical tag as each page is for a different product and I think its going to be difficult to differentiate each page. I was wondering: 1. If this has a negative effect on the ranking of our homepage and other main product pages or if its an issue we do not need to worry too much about. 2. If anyone has any other ideas as to how we can resolve this issue. Thanks,

The correct way to go from PHP site to HTML site?
I have a website fully coded in PHP and I am doing a re-design over to an HTML site. I searched through the Q&A and there were some conflicting answers. Some said you will need to 301 all the pages. Others said to use the .htaccess to parse all the files as html. What is the correct way I should go about this? Thanks in advance!

How Do You Build Good Quality Content on an E-Commerce Site with over 1500 products?
I've been told for a while now that quality is king, and as far as the top level down goes, I have improved the quality of these pages incredibly, working from the landing page down to the categories. Now the problem comes when I know that if I describe each product dynamically with great content, this give the best result, yet doing this on over 1500 products is just a mammoth task for anyone, isn't it? I want a way to have good quality content on each of those pages without writing a million words.... is this possible?

Should H1s be used in the logo? If they are and it is dynamic on each page to relate to the page content, is this detrimental to the site rather than having it in the page content?
On some sites, the H1 is contained within the logo and remains consistent throughout the site (i.e. the company name is in the of the logo). If the h1 in a logo is dynamic for each page (i.e. on the homepage it is company name - homepage) is this better or worse to have it changed out on the logo rather than having it in the page content?

Three Sites or One?
I have a client who provides three distinct, although related, services. Some of his competitors only provide one of those services, and thus their sites are more saturated with that particular service. Would it be best to develop three different sites optimized for each particular service, or could I achieve the same effect by optimizing different sections of one site for each service?
