How to filter out client traffic
-
Hi,
I would like to filter out traffic in GA that comes to my client site just to login into their application. Is there a way to create a filter or segment that if a visitor exits the site to a subdomain it will filter them out? For example, they land on the homepage (abc.com/), click the login tab (drop down screen) and login and go to their application dashboard (app.abc.com/). I would like to delete this traffic segment as it is creates high bounce rates and makes it difficult to test landing pages.
Thanks so much,
Donna

All of this is given that you know your way around GA.
The first thing you should do is make sure you have at least one unfiltered profile and another profile. You can make a number of profiles. The current documentation states you can have 50 profiles.
The profiles that are made will not include data previous to the creation of the profile. You do not want to filter your main profile.
To get around that, you can make an exclude segment, it's not permanent, based upon landing page while new data is populating your new profiles.
Alternately, you can just do a quick exclude shortcut for individual landing pages, if there aren't dozens to thousands of login pages. You can also remove your GA code from that page(s). But I can't totally recommend that. There may be some things you can figure out there as well.

We've had that issue as well. The best option is to put an onclick event on the login link.
You can find more details here -- https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/events or
https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/eventTrackerGuide depending on whether use the old version of ga or the universal analytics
Once you do that, google will automatically ward out the false positives.

Big drop in organic traffic after moving the website-should we still do 301 redirects?
Hi,
Reporting & Analytics | | martin1970
We have a website that got redesigned with new urls in Jan 31, 2018. Since then our SEO traffic has gone down big time and to never recover. We did not do any 301 redirects back then (very stupid I know but I was not in charge then). So my question is would it be beneficial to 301 redirect old urls that were once ranked but now have all 404 errors or is it too late to do these 301 to gain any benefits? If a page that was once ranked and then have a 404 error, how long does google keep that 404 page in their database? I have heard information saying that although the page is a 404 it may still be indexed in their backend for some time and then it completely drops off all together. If so do you know how long time they would keep those 404 in their database? The old urls may have had good backlinks pointed to them because the organic traffic was good back then. So I wonder if doing 301 right now would help send some link juice over to the new urls? Or would this be a complete waste of time? Cheers Martin1 -
Why is Indeed.com traffic appearing as organic in Google Analytics?
A large number of sessions in my client's Google Analytics account appear to come from medium: organic and source:Indeed. Since I'm focused on SEO for this project, I'd prefer that Indeed be treated as referral traffic. Any ideas for fixing this issue? Also, and I'm sure the answer is no, is there a way to fix the past data in Google Analytics that has already reported Indeed as an organic medium?

AMP Session Stitching - How to deal with Google's Client ID AMP Policy
Hello, I recently attended SMX East and the concept of 'session stitching' for AMP was brought up (https://www.stonetemple.com/amp-tech-guide/). I reached out to my development team and they told me they could do it, but that we would need to agree to the new TOS changes and making users aware of then... https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/7486055 Has anyone here done something like this? And if so how did you deal with the Google's Client ID AMP policy? Thank you all! -Margarita

Google Analytics - Organic Search Traffic & Queries -What caused the huge difference?
Our website traffic dropped a little bit during the last month, but it's getting better now, almost the same with previous period. But our conversion rate dropped by 50% for the last three weeks. What could cause this huge drop in conversion rate? In Google Analytics, I compared the Organic Search Traffic with previous period, the result is similar. But the Search Engine Optimization ->Queries shows that the clicks for last month is almost zero. What could be the cause of this huge differnce? e9sJNwD.png k4M8Fa5.png

Why do I have a lot of direct traffic from MSN and Yahoo with 100% bounce rate?
For MSN I have about 8000 hits of one page and a 100% bounce rate. In the last month I have about 400 hits from Yahoo with a 100% bounce rate. Msn is all different pages, while Yahoo is all the home page. What would cause this?

Using Filters On Google Analytics
Hi Guys, I am In need of some technical help with regards to Google analytics. One of my clients has a site providing HR Software on SaaS basis. The users login via the site for the various HR Tools. Obviously this is skewing the analytics data and showing 10,000+ extra visitors that actually don't exist. Now I understand i can add filters and exclude certain pages for instance the login page, however, some users will visit the home page then click login. How can I exclude them just to show new visitors to the site rather than users that are just trying to login. Hope this makes sense Neil

Does anyone know of a way to do a profile level filter to exclude all traffic if it enters the site via certain landing pages?
Does anyone know of a way to do a profile level filter to exclude all traffic if it enters the site via certain landing pages? The problem I have is that we have several pages that are served to visitors of numerous other domains but are also served to visitors of our site. We end up with inflated Google Analytics numbers because people are viewing these pages from our partners' domains but never actually entering our site. I've made an advanced segment that serves the purpose but I'd really like to filter it at the profile level so the numbers across the board are more accurate without having to apply an advanced segment to every report. The advanced segment excludes visits that hit these pages as landing pages but includes visits where people have come from other pages on our domain. I know that you can do profile filters to exclude visits to pages or directories entirely but is there a way to filter them only if they are a landing pages? Any other creative thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Huge Traffic Drop?
I am seeing a huge 30-40% traffic drop which started around 8-9 PM EST last night. I am compare the stats of today with last Saturday and the drop is significant. I am checking it in Google Analytics and Clicky and both report the same. The Adsense impressions drop also show the same. The rankings of my top keywords seem to be fine. I re-checked them using ranktracker for Google US, UK and others. I don't understand what has happened here. Anyone else seeing the drop? Is there a Google Panda update underway?
