URL Path to Store Article Library for SEO
-
What is the best URL structure for a domain to start adding a main directory for educational articles under? We want to find the best URL structure to keep articles under as a main, then category, then subcategory:
For example, if my client is going after TWO SPECIFIC KEYWORD PHRASES as their primary (let's say they are KIDNEY DIALYSIS and CKD DIALYSIS, should they start building up their article library (for educational purposes as well as ranking/SEO), should they list it under which structure for the best SEO ranking opportunities:
- domain.com/KIDNEY-DIALYSIS/article1, article2, article3
- domain.com/CKD-DIALYSIS/article1, article2, article3
- domain.com/ARTICLES/article1, article2, article3
Both KIDNEY DIALYSIS and CKD DIALYSIS are critical phrases for them. Is it a waste of URL space to just have a home of domain.com/ARTICLES then build off that URL structure like:
Thoughts? Ideas? Thank you!

I agree to avoid a domain such as:
domain.com/kidney-dialysis-ckd-dialysis/article
Your article URL will probably include a similar keyword and it does start to get too long/stuffy.
I also agree that you want to setup an internal structure as described: Category > Article Name
Where I differ is by including the category in the URL, I believe it is not needed. Instead, allow the URL to be the article name. Then, structure your website so that you have a strong category page for your main keyword phrase and include links to these articles (and vice-versa) as appropriate.
Your internal link structure will tell Google just how important the main category page is for the main term and your supporting articles will be organized into categories through your UI & navigation structure.
Setting it up this way will inform google how each piece of content is related and still allow for the article to be the main term in the URL structure.
However, this is just a preference. You can include the category in the main URL structure and it may even be a big benefit to your site. I prefer the more direct URLs and enforcing the structure through UI & internal link design - I think it allows for more flexibility and attention on the article's terms.

I thought about that, but I was under the impression that it's better "seo-wise" to
- have a url structure where there is a MAIN PAGE that links to SUB CATEGORIES then ARTICLES like domain.com/kidney-dialysis/articlename/ but if we are targeting 2 incredibly important keyword phrases I want to avoid domain.com/kidney-dialysis-ckd-dialysis/article since that is too long and too keyword stuffy, unless I'm wrong.
I agree with short URL's but what page would they link from if not a URL structure that supports showing the bots that there is an article library url structure like COUNTRY > STATE > CITY > NEIGHBORHOOD.
Thoughts?

I'd suggest dropping the /articles from the URL and just go with a friendly URL that is http://www.domain.com/name-of-article
You could include the categories, such as /kidney-dialysis, but I suggest keeping the URL train short and focusing the article title as the main portion of the URL.
Create efficient category pages for your main terms and try to get them to rank as well.

Can you help by advising how to stop a URL from referring to another URL on my website with a 404 errorplease?
How to stop a URL from referring to another URL on my site. I'm getting a 404 error on a referred URL which is (https://webwritinglab.com/know-exactly-what-your-ideal-clients-want-in-8-easy-steps/[null id=43484])referred from URL (https://webwritinglab.com/know-exactly-what-your-ideal-clients-want-in-8-easy-steps/) The referred URL is the URL page that I want and I do not need it redirecting to the other URL as that's presenting a 404 error. I have tried saving the permalink in WordPress and recreated the .htaccess file and the problem is still there. Can you advise how to fix this please? Is it a case of removing the redirect? Is this advisable and how do I do that please? Thanks

Use existing page with bad URL or brand new URL?
Hello, We will be updating an existing page with more helpful information with the goal of reaching more potential customers through SEO and also attaching a SEM campaign to the specific landing page. The current URL of the page scores 25 on Page Authority, and has 2 links to it from blog articles (PA 35, 31). The current content needs to be rewritten to be more helpful and also needs some additional information. The downsides are that it has an "bad" URL- no target keyword and uses underscores. Which of the following choices would you make? 1. Update this old "bad" URL with new content. Benefit from the existing PA. -or- 2. Start with a new optimized URL, reusing some of the old content and utilizing a 301 redirect from the previous page? Thank you!

Keyword Phrase in URL structure
Wondered the best URL structure, to include a major keyword phrase. Our clients' case is that their domain name is not the main keyword. So should we include the keyword phrase in the URL structure to list all their office locations: A - www.website.com/anxiety-treatment/denver/1001

or
B - www.website.com/denver/1001 Would this be considered keyword stuffing? We'd like "A" above to rank for keyword phrases related to "anxiety treatment denver", etc.0 -
Dynamic vs. static URLs
Hello Everyone, I'm new here on MOZ and just getting back into SEO (a little bit) after not doing anything 'myself' for a couple of years. Currently my individual URLs show as: https://www.example.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=107 (dynamic responsive site). I can switch it to a static site, so the individual product pages read as:https://www.example.com/catalog/category name/product name-107.html It's still a long URL, but it would be keyword rich. Some of my current dynamic pages are indexed, and due to an upgrade I had to do several months back, I already have some redirects (301) from my php extensions to the one listed above. This is my long explanation to my following questions: Does having a dynamic or static site matter when ranking in search engines I already have some redirects coming my older site to this dynamic site, so I would have to make more directs from the dynamic site to my static site - is this okay to do? I'm really at a loss, a couple of years ago, I ranked 1-3 (on Page 1) on Google for all my keywords, (all White Hat work), and now I'm into great abyss of no mans land of the internet (ranked on Page 3+) Thank you for any and all help from everyone! ~Sandra

SEO for a franchise business
Were about to embark on an SEO project for a franchise business with about 150 franchises. Would it be best to give all of the franchises individual domain names or house them under the one domain? If they were on the same domain would it be worth setting them up with sub domains or with a URL so city.mydomain.com vs mydomain.com/city Thanks

URL content format - Any impact on SEO
I understand that there is a suggested maximum length for a URL so as not to be penalized by search engines. I'm wondering if I should if should optimize our ecommerce categories to be descriptive or use abbreviations to help keep the URL length to a minimum? Our products are segmented into many categories, so many products URL's are pretty long if we go the descriptive route. I've also heard that removing the category component entirely from a product URL can also be considered. I'm fairly new to all this SEO stuff, so I'm hoping the community can share their knowledge on the impact of these options. Cheers, Steve
