How Effective Are Links Between The Same Company's Websites With Different Domain Extensions?
-
Morning!
The main competitor of an eCommerce site I'm working on has a total of 31 sites for 31 different countries. Each one of these sites has a different domain extension (.com, .co.uk, .fr, .it etc.), and every single one of these sites' pages links to all the other homepages through a dropdown menu on the navigation bar.
When I pop the .co.uk URL (our main competitor) into Open Site Explorer, I'm advised they have a 45,079 links from 475 domains. If I look at 'just discovered' links, most are from their own sites - I guess MOZ picks these up every time a new page is created.
Now, these guys are huge in the UK. They rank in the top 10 for pretty much every single search term and, to put it into some kind of perspective, their Search Metrics score is 33,000 compared to our measly 160!
Don't get me wrong, they do get some decent links from authoritative sites, but it seem most of their links are from their own sites. How does Google view these? Does my competitor have these thousands of 'internal' backlinks to thank for their current position?
I've just checked their .kr URL and this has 12.5 million(!) links from just 450 domains. Do every single one of these links pass equity? Or does Google just look at one from each domain?
Thanks,
Lewis

Theoretically this is not a good strategy because the value of these links are minimal compared to links to domains hosted on other servers in different places. There is no technical penalty for this unless you are over abusing the quantity of links, but, the value of the links is extremely low.

Hello. One of my competitors does the same thing. Not different domain extentions like yours but just .com but a domain for each of their representatives that the navigational bar points to their main site. The registeration shows they own all these 100 sites but their main sites gets all the backlinks. So yes it works for them.

What happens to your domain authority if you are forced to change your website name?
Out of curiosity if for legal reason you or a client were forced to change their domain name, what happens to all of your domain authority once you lose the old domain? While you still own the domain you can easily redirect any old links to your new website, but what happens if you no longer own that domain and someone else purchases it? Do they steal all of your domain authority? Or is it possible to keep those old links pointing toward your website?

Linking Root Domains www and non-www
I just ran our site through Open Site Explorer. If I run the non-www version I get 30 root domains, if I run www I get 177. Is it wise to try and contact those sites using the non-www version and ask them to update the links to www version? Will that make much of a difference?

Link Building/ Off page strategy. Do we have already have a 'hook' or should we create more specific content.
Hi Guys. As part of our link building campaign I've been creating a database of people who might link to our site. We're a diary company. So I’ve been focusing on people interested in stationary, paper, pens, etc who also blog. We have a unique product at TOAD diaries, it's essentially an online tool that allows you to design your own diary. You can choose size, colour, duration, etc and also personalise the cover. So the product (we think) is very compelling and interesting. First of it’s kind. Check it out here: http://www.toaddiaries.co.uk/designer/diary/a5/everyday-diary-week-across-2-pages/coil-bound/toad-plum/12/1/8/2014 So.... question. Do you think that the site itself would considered 'good content'? i.e) It's already a very interesting idea that's worth linking to. Or Would it be better to create a high quality engaging blog (with info-graphics etc) that really speaks to that community of people? Say, about our love of the humble paper diary, and why it's still useful. Then use that blog content to try get links? You thoughts would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance. Isaac.

To know effect on our Website rank in Google Search results
Ours is Property Advertising Company. And we have agents and consultants working from other areas in providing property for advertising in our website. So we collect all the data (5000 data nearly) and upload in one stretch directly to our database. I would like to know whether this process will affect our ranking in google search results because when we upload 5000 data, the links in our website also increases.

How Are Competitor's With Zero Links (According to SEOmoz) Ranking Highly?
Hey everyone! This is my first post in the community after just signing up for SEOmoz. I've already got a ton of value from this community so I'm looking for to giving back as much as possible. The keyword gets 8000+ monthly searches on Google. Not so many, but the keyword indicates high buying intention. The funny thing is that the top ranking page has 0 backlinks (according to OSE). It seems as though there are some black hat tactics being used, as I doubt that they are ranking solely with on-page optimization. Any idea what's going on? Have you guys/gals seen this before?

Are 36 links from one site to nested pages better than one link to the root domain?
I have a Driving School website www.1stclassdriving.co.uk. The site is structured geographically with 36 area pages, one

page per area post code and one page per Driving Instructor. I am trying to develop links and have found a site (da91 pa

wish. Is it best to just create one link to the root page or
should I create 36 individual links to each area page? - which is most valuable?0 -
Links from low PA pages on high DA sites... What effect do they have?
My company's website has inbound links from very high DA websites (LinkedIn 96, Yelp 91, etc.) but from pages with very low PA (1). These low PA pages are the company listings pages. In the case of Linked In, there are several products/services listed with ideal anchor text to the relevant pages on our site. How do these links effect our overall ranking and trust, and why aren't they listed when I use OSE to analyze my pages? Thanks!
